I had the bacon and apple pancake while my husband tried a savory everything pancake. His was scrumptious and I wished I had ordered his after trying a bite. The sauces they offer are both sweet and savory and depending on the type of pancake you got they were deceivingly delicious. You could also enjoy soups, salads, and some other savory dishes. So, there was a little something for everyone. We visited this restaurant over a year ago and vowed that we'd be back with our swim team and we were able to make it happen. I would highly suggest going here if you are in the area. If the weather is nice there's great play equipment outside for the kiddos.

The pancakes were quite tasty and enormous, the size of a large plate. Have been here twice and first time had a savory pancake with bacon and cheese which was good but would not recommend as a sole meal, maybe to share for a table as they are pretty heavy and a lil greasy. But the regular pancakes with cream and strawberries were absolutely delicious! Also have had the vegetable soup which was really nice but maybe lacking a bit of salt. There is a small market next door with some produce and home baked goods for a lil shopping.

My great friend and I were in Utrecht for a couple of days and decided to rent bikes and join the crowd and bike all around town. I had heard of this legendary pancake house in the woods and after a little bit of research realized it would make the perfect bike excursion for the two of us. So, we got all fitted and fixed up on our rental bikes and wearing NO helmets, started GPSing our way out of downtown, headed for the Theehuis Rhijnauwen. It wasn't too bad getting to the entrance to the forest, only a few close scrapes, but once we crossed over, we were biking in the open air with the most beautiful green spaces surrounding us. The rest of the ride was pretty fantastic. We saw friends biking in parallel sync, chatting away, and only wished that I was able to master my bicycle enough to do that too. Anyway, we arrived soon enough and found a spot to lock up our bikes. The place was hopping, but we got a table outside pretty easily. We were looking out on the greenest grassy field with two mini donkeys prancing around on a grassy knoll. The ONLY downside was that I had pre-ordered a tea service for the two of us, which was not great food-wise. I watched so many plates of big pancakes pass by longingly. Our tea service food was a lot of ok sweets and some salami, and then more sweets. Oof. On the other hand, there was no way I was going to let the disappointment of the food ruin the overall magic. Every time I looked over at one of those mini Dutch donkeys prancing around, they winked right back at me.

That said . . . the food is delicious (from my last visit), and it's such a cute, unique little spot. They're known for having just 4 tables and a 12-person max, which makes it feel super intimate and cozy. Definitely worth checking out if you get the chance . . . just skip it if you have a nut allergy!

Tinniest restaurant I've ever been to, quite an experience!…read more I highly recommend to book in advance if you want to secure a space in this little gem that only has 4 tables. The place has an incredible personality starting with the super narrow stairs you have to climb to get there. Gives you a feeling of a quirky fun atmosphere with teapots hanging from the ceiling. I suggest you order a savory and a sweet pancake so you can compare. We pick "The King" for sweet, with strawberries, powder sugar and whipped cream and the bacon, cheese and sugared ginger for savory. Both were really good but my fav definitely was the sweet one. The portion per pancake is enough for one person and they are also perfect for share if you order two or three. There are other pancake places but this one felt authentic!
