Tinniest restaurant I've ever been to, quite an experience! I highly recommend to book in advance if you want to secure a space in this little gem that only has 4 tables. The place has an incredible personality starting with the super narrow stairs you have to climb to get there. Gives you a feeling of a quirky fun atmosphere with teapots hanging from the ceiling. I suggest you order a savory and a sweet pancake so you can compare. We pick "The King" for sweet, with strawberries, powder sugar and whipped cream and the bacon, cheese and sugared ginger for savory. Both were really good but my fav definitely was the sweet one. Worth a visit. Walk-in only from 12-1; we lined up around 11:40 and got in at open. There are only a few tables inside (5?) so try to be early in the queue. You must climb some steep stairs to get to the 2nd floor where the restaurant is. The space feels like a cozy retreat from the bustle outside. We were a party of 2 and had to share a table with another party of 2. They got the Kai (brie, cheese, bacon) and King (strawberries and cream) and liked their orders. My friend and I shared a Miranda (pear, eggnog, chocolate syrup, cream) and a bacon, cheese, and tomato. The eggnog on the Miranda is quite strong, alcohol-wise, so be warned! But it is delicious, especially with the poached pears. The bacon cheese tomato is is ok but not memorable. If you're weighing sweet or savory, I would recommend you go the sweet route with this place. The pancakes themselves are super moist, and thicker than a crepe but much thinner than a regular pancake. I imagine if I ate this repeatedly, the novelty of it would wear off, but it's fun to try once (or a few times). Service is fast-paced and tables turn over quickly as a result. Food arrived in less than 10 mins for us. A group near us left after probably 30 mins total. So definitely not a place to chill for a long time. I came here after a recommendation and I am glad I did because the experience was fantastic. I was concerned because they open at 12 pm and I usually don't feel pancakes around then but luckily they had savory pancakes, which were incredible. The batter is the same as the sweet pancakes but it did not feel out of place on my palate at all. They are very thin like crepes but large so the portion is more than enough. I ordered the shredded beef pancake and it was probably the best shredded beef I've had. My partner ordered the bacon, cheese, and ginger pancake, which was delicious as well. The service was great as well and they had a special pancake with special strawberries and the employee sliced them up with some homemade cream for us to try since we did not get the pancake. I would come here every day if I could. Reservations are a must since there are only four tables. We got super lucky to get the last table available as a walk-in. He told people who came afterwards that he was booked for the next week so get a reservation. This is definitely a unique Dutch experience. These Dutch houses have steep stairs so be forewarned. It's small but beautiful decorated and seems to be a family-owned business. They have an English menu. The Dutch pancakes are ridiculously good. We had savory pancakes but I wish I'd had a sweet one as well but they are too filling. I couldn't even finish the one I had. This place is located in the middle of a tourist location but easy to get to. As every review has noted, you really do need a reservation and only way to get one is to call one week in advanced. Friendly service and very quick to get your items out. We shared the pulled beef pancake and the banana and chocolate. The beef is so tender and delicious I was so surprised and could have had another! The batter of the pancake is not overly sweet so it compliments all the toppings perfectly and the perfect thickness (think slightly thicker than a crepe). Big ups to this joint for all the charm that comes with a super steep staircase, 3 dining tables, interesting decor, and a server who was wearing flip flops. Definitely make a reservation because this place is POPULAR, and for good reason. We stumbled upon it and recalled that some friends had been recommending it to us so we decided to check it out. The owner very kindly accommodated our no reservation by grouping us with another lovely couple who also didn't have a reservation, however, others who came after us were not so lucky because the rest of the tables were reserved. All I can say is get the pancakes and eat the pancakes. They're incredibly delicious. It's the Upstairs Pancake House so there's no need to get anything else. The pancakes are where it's at. Yes, you do have to walk up the stairs as the name implies. Not sure if there's another access point other than the stairs, but they're narrow and steep as is common for Holland. Note: CASH ONLY. There are ATMs in walking distance but one wasn't when we went and another group had trouble getting their cash. The staff was so incredibly kind. They held our table as our flight was delayed and we had to rush across town to make the reservation. This was our first day in Amsterdam and we had all of our luggage with us. We weren't expecting the steep stairs and after trying to carry our luggage up decided we needed to reschedule. We went to tell the staff and they actually carried all of our luggage up for us. They were incredibly kind and made us feel very welcome and safe. They even gave us fans to help us cool off. The pancakes were beyond phenomenal and I'm so happy we were able to keep our reservation and dine in with them. They only have 4 tables so reservations are a must - they book a week in advance only. The consensus seemed to be that these two restaurants serve the best in Amsterdam, with a slight edge going to this one. I highly recommend making reservations, as this place is popular and in demand. As already stated, this restaurant is very, very small. It will require your party to walk up a pretty steep and narrow flight of stairs. If that's a deal breaker, look elsewhere. The restaurant itself has maybe 4-6 small tables. Our party of 5 was easily accommodated, but there's really not a lot of extra space here. The decor is quite nice, with various teapots hanging from the ceiling. No complaints about the ambiance, which felt authentic and cozy. This place is all about pancakes, and the menu features an impressive number of options to choose from. Prices range from about 7-13 euros, with most falling around 9-10. While they do offer some interesting options, I chose to go with a rather basic one, Strawberry jam. To be honest, I don't like Dutch pancakes as much as American, but that's just what I'm used to. It did start to grow on me towards the end of the meal, but it took a while for my tastebuds to adjust. They are definitely different from the ones in California, but the quality is apparent. These were such delicious little gifts from heaven! The pulled beef on the pancake was so savory, flavorful, tender and just melts in your mouth. The pancakes themselves were perfectly done--thin, hot and delicious! The berries on the other pancake were so fresh and sweet and the creme was an excellent addition. A true 5 star restaurant. We were lucky and managed to snag a table here after another party cancelled their reservation - you should reserve in advance here, like many places in Amsterdam. The crepes were honestly incredible. We tried the apple and cinnamon, a blueberry one, and the King (strawberries). All came with a serving of thick, delicious cream on top. My only warning is that in order to enter the restaurant, you will need to climb about two stories of steep, narrow stairs. I highly recommend making reservations because there are only a few tables and we were very fortunate to get a spot.
