This last weekend, as I now live out of state, I sent flowers for family in Texas but the flowers were not received. It's so hard to be away from family during these times. We encountered limited explanations, carbon copies instead of legible copies and nonexistent sales recipients. I recommend you push to get a full accounting of your purchases along with your sales receipts, preferably before you leave your appointment. Even after 6 weeks, their billing errors are not fully corrected. You will need to be proactive in order to understand what you purchased and how much it costs.

Fast forward to December 2020. My aforementioned Dad passed away. His death was very unexpected. We knew he wanted to be buried next to his granddaughter and immediately made arrangements for him to be transported from Houston to Austin. Everything related to the transfer and grave-side service was handled great. We took great care with designing my Dad's marker. My Mom placed the final order December 2020. We were told it would be placed on 3-5 months. It is now almost a year later and still no marker. My Mom initially reached out to her contact at Cook Walden (Kyle) multiple times via email with no response. She called and left multiple messages with no response. Luckily I live in Austin and was able to park myself at the funeral home until someone would speak to me. After multiple assurances that 'everything was being done' to get my Dad's marker placed, I left. I reached out via text message multiple times and was told that 'shipping delays were causing delivery issues, etc.'. Sure. This would be a valid excuse for a month, 3 months, 6 month delay, but it's been a YEAR. A whole YEAR. My last text message was unanswered.

This is a small cemetery directly on Highway 71 W. at Buck Lane and it sits just out of view. There…read moreis no sign or driveway to let you know where it is. It is tucked behind some trees 20 feet from the highway, but not enclosed by a fence. You'll have to park on the Buck Ln somewhere and walk a few hundred feet along the highway to gain access. I was surprised that it was not completely swallowed up by vegetation and in fact has been reasonably cared for over time, perhaps by the road crews. It is a small cemetery dedicated to the Fowler family. Out of the 12 gravesites here, sadly eight of them belong to children two years old and less. Judging by the prominence of the markers, it's likely this was a local family that was probably wealthier than most. As to the significance of the family name, I'll leave that up to someone else to investigate. The photos included in this review add more insight.

Kind, caring people who have gone above and beyond for us during this difficult time. Working with…read morethe staff here has been amazing. They met with us the same day, listened to what we were attempting to accomplish in terms of a memorial service, had references readily available, and allowed us time to use their conference room and pull all the elements together. On the day of the service, they were more available than we had ever expected them to be, and didn't rush us in any way. Everything went perfectly, and their services were an important reason why it all went so well. For an extremely cost effective way to handle final expenses, we didn't feel like we were getting sub par service; far from it. I've been to the full service places that come with plenty of guilt to push you to spend more money during a time where you are ill equipped to make good decisions. Here, we received everything we wanted, no high pressure sales tactics or guilt. I can't recommend them enough, they are awesome people! Thank you very much for everything you did for us.

What an amazing company! I started looking for caskets online and had a lot of questions. I found…read morea couple that I liked, but wanted to see them in person. I contacted express caskets (a sister company) and Scott sent me a video of one of the caskets. The time came to actually buy the casket. I had learned that my loved one needed an extra-large casket. However, the selection of extra large caskets did not include anything that looked similar to the one that I liked. Scott started scouring the country for me. Now get this - he remembered the style of the OTHER casket I had asked about several weeks ago! I had totally given up on that one, but Scott remembered. He found one in his warehouse in the right size. He had it to the funeral home the next day. It was beautiful! It was much better than any of the pictures! It was also about a third of what the funeral home wanted to charge for one not nearly so nice. Scott was so super. I was astonished during this time that a lot of people did not respond to emails or calls. Scott responded, kept in touch and delivered! If you're reading this, my heart goes out to you. Rely on these guys. I know I will.

Most of the big ones in Austin such as Weed-Corley-Fish and Cook-Walden have been bought up by big companies such as Service Corporation International (SCI) and therefore usually profit margin is the number one driving factor when running a business by a big conglomerate. Harrell Funeral Home is not that way. They treat you like family, responsive to your needs and requests, do everything in the most professional and dignified manner possible. Even when they arrived to pick up my mother who had passed away at home, they were gentle in lifting her, asked us how they wanted us to wrap her, and placed a beautiful cover over her when they took her to an unmarked Mercedes van to transport her to the funeral home.They help you think of things that you may not have considered when a loved one passes. What I like best about them is their cremation facility in is onsite in South Austin so if you want to stay with your loved one until the very end, you are allowed to do that. Many places will nickel and dime you for every little thing but that is not the case with Harrell. They offer free online obituaries, free video tributes to go with your obituary, free grieving resources, and assistance with typing up loose ends such as procuring death certificates and closing out digital identities and financial matters of your loved one. Paul and Jason were so kind during this delicate time and there was never a hard upsell at any time. They respected my mother's wishes and my wishes for what we needed from them. I can't say enough great things about Harrell Funeral Homes and for anyone who has to unfortunately make those hard decisions, I would highly recommend calling Harrell to support you during that time.

Price was right so we moved forward. Mario contacted me about taking down old awnings to redo. Guys were here exactly as scheduled and very polite and professional. Job was done quickly and they accommodated an earlier install because I was hosting a wedding at my house. No problem. They worked with me and got the job done. Mario and his crew are amazing. When you think customer service is dead in this country, along comes a company like AAA who exceeds expectations and does it with a smile. Highly, highly recommend these folks.
