Coffee was good, sandwiches freshly made and flavourful. There is limited outdoor seating so if it is a nice day you'll want to go early. The inside is spacious and minimally furnished. Overall its a nice, simple place to go and grab a quick bite to eat. It won't blow you're mind but it'll fill your belly.

The pasta was undercooked (not al dente, actually undercooked), which you could clearly see by looking a the profile of the spaghetti when sliced through. It was quite a pity since the sauce was rather good. I spooned some of the sauce, and left most of my spaghetti. Although the waitress asked what happened, and was genuinely sorry when I told her what was up, the 'chef' had somewhat of a more offhanded attitude. While never actually coming to the table, he told her that it does not matter, as he cannot make everyone happy. While I agree that tastes and preferences vary, and indeed you cannot make everyone happy, I am also convinced that if there is one person sitting at that time in a restaurant, and you are a person seemingly in charge of the food of said restaurant, you should at least give it a nice college try. I hope my future food experiences will be better, though, I am not sure when that will be. As I do still like their coffee, for now I just might stick to that with some of their sweets to go with my coffee.

My friends enjoyed their meals. One ordered the quinoa salad, small portion was well big enough for lunch. Fresh and tasty. Burger also came with a large serve of fries. My partner in crime this afternoon had the mannenburger (Man's Burger) while I had the "Brat Burger". Juicy, flavorful, perfectly cooked and at the right temperature. All around positive experience. I got the ravioli under the vegetarian section which was filled with ricotta, mushrooms, truffle hazulnuts, beurre noisette, and parmesan. Very tasty and filling. No matter how much we ate, we didn't seem to make a dent in either one of those plates. FAST FOOD: I ordered the Celeriac with Forest Mushroom soup which was amazing. While I waited for it to cool down I ate the crostini which had some kind of tapenade. The waitress seems to think the base is made from the bottom part of the celery stalk, but had a pea soup kind of taste with a chicken broth. The forest mushrooms also were amazing. We also had the Reuben and the Caprese sandwiches, both were great, the Caprese could have used maybe a little more pesto sauce or balsamic. Atmosphere: great restaurant, there's a patio but it was cold so we sat inside, they have a beautiful bar and you can see the chef cooking away. Music playing in the background. Service: Excellent, the two young girls and young men were taking care of all the tables and cooking. Tip: Try the soup.

Fortunately, we stumbled upon the Café de Pels, a fun and friendly establishment that seemed to be family owned. The cafe was BUSY! We found large round table near the back with some open seats, so we asked if we could join them. We ordered a cappuccino and a latte. They were the best. My husband who favors lattes found that all the lattes in Italy were too milky and never hot enough for him. This drink was the perfect blend. The coffee was smooth, rich, with no bitterness, and the latte had just the right amount of milk, steamed hot! Hubby was a happy camper. My cappuccino was also hot, and while the coffee was rich and strong, there was no bitterness needing to be covered with sugar. The drinks were served with a delightful little chocolate. We were warming up already. Since it was early evening, there was a complete mix of young and old, tourists and locals, drinking beer, coffees and all kinds of snacks. Suddenly we were lost in conversation with our tablemates: a salesman born and raised in Amsterdam, a writer from Scotland and his wife, an educator from London. They shared their appetizers, their laughs and their stories for the next two hours. The same kinds of spontaneous conversations seemed to be developing all over the cafe. Delicious sandwiches, breakfast and fantastic service…read more As anywhere in Amsterdam it was no surprise that the owner (I assume the only gentleman that seems to run this place owns it) spoke perfectly good English and was very polite, accommodating and genuinely friendly. Orange juice (always fresh squeezed in EU) was great of course. So were my croissant and cheese. But le piece de resistance of this visit was my latte! WOW, the most well balanced, smooth cup of espresso goodness I have had the entire time I was in Europe! The Dutch know how to make a fantastic latte among many other things. This establishment has a local crowd and is very reasonably priced, great choice for breakfast or lunch!

They have good scones and cakes, which are served with generous butter/jam doses. It's really weird but at some point we ordered some fancy tea that I swear it smelled like chouriço. This of course confused all of my senses, seeing tea, knowing it's tea, but smelling smoked ham. No help at the end, when the flavour was really ham-tea.. a new creation! The space itself is also quite nice and I really liked the artsy pattern they had on the wall, with the place's name. They're located in an area that does not have that many cafés (or at least I did not come across them yet) so drop by for a visit :)
