Forgive me as I do not know the name of this dish but this was probably the most delicious pasta that I have ever had. I stumbled upon this place on accident trying to get out of the cold in Amsterdam and I'm glad that I did! The aesthetic was homey but with a modern twist-I felt like I was in a family members home eating dinner. The service could have been better which was odd because it wasn't really busy. This was my first time trying true Italian pasta outside of the States and now I can't look back. Lied to by the host "manager" to selfishly close down the restaurant early and go home. If that's the operating model, update the restaurant reservation availabilities online so you're not wasting patrons' time who are going out of the way to visit the restaurant - it's disingenuous to the restaurant owners! Had an 8:15 reservation, walked in at 8:23 and was told by the hostess that greeted us that a table will be set up and checked on. The host "manager" walks out of the kitchen at 8:27 to tell me that it's the restaurant's policy to close down the kitchen when a reservation is 10 minutes late - and all Amsterdam restaurants run the same way and offered to recommend nearby pizza places to go to instead. I told her that it's impossible that she closed down the kitchen 10 mins after when we were standing there waiting by the hostess table and greeted by one of her coworkers at 8:23 and she is making up lies to go home early. Waste of our time and left a bad taste in our mouth when she said this is Amsterdam's restaurant policy - which was a condescending comment. Do better. read more

My wife and I stopped by Pompa our first night in Amsterdam and we were very impressed! Quaint little tapas place in the museum district, quiet when we went which we love. Our first course was manchego cheese, Serrano ham, bread and olives, and lamb lollipops. Every bite was simply delicious, but the lamb was the star of the show! So tender and lean and savory, when the course was done there were only bones left. The bread was freshly baked, crusty and warm, and served with olives & fresh aioli. We were still hungry so we got a few more plates. Lamb kebabs (suggested by the waitress), calamari, and more bread & olives (because I love fresh bread!) again, we loved every bite! My wife washed everything down with a couple glasses of chilled Spumante while I had Heineken (Amsterdam after all). Service was excellent. It was pretty empty but the place is quite small so I got the sense it would be the same regardless. Like most European service it was attentive without being overbearing. They want you to enjoy your meal and the experience without having to answer a ton of "how is everything" questions. We ate at probably a dozen places during our trip and Pompa was hands down our favorite. read more

We stopped by Pompa on our last night in Amsterdam, and were blown away. The staff was kind, the location was cozy and intimate, the food was delicious, and the "house cat" who lives in the restaurant was a (very cute) added bonus. My mom had the Scaloppine de Pollo in the bacon-funghi cream sauce and a fresh mint tea, and I had the Penne Funghi with a glass of Pinot Grigio. Delicious! We also couldn't stop eating the garlic aioli served with the bread. It was even better with the fries dipped in. My son and I were walking around, enjoying a windy, slightly rainy day in Amsterdam when we decided we were hungry. As we were in the tourist area and know touristy restaurants can be unpredictable, we decided to check Yelp to find a decent spot for lunch. We ended up at Pompa and, thanks, Yelpers... it was delish! Pompa is a very busy, multi-level but still cozy corner cafe. People are in and out and don't linger to read or chat as tables are in short supply. We ordered the rack of lamb with veggies and pasta - both were simply cooked and good. I felt they didn't throw a bunch of unnecessary seasonings or fat into the dishes, which was a nice change. My son also ordered a hot cocoa, which was perfect of that blustery day. All-in-all, we'd go back to Pompa if in the area and would also recommend it to other travelers who like to avoid less than great touristy restaurants. Might see ya there! read more

Amazing food, service, and ambiance. I was looking forward to the Italian food in Amsterdam and this place did not let me down. Although we had a few people tending to us throughout the dinner, all of them were super nice. The wines were a very standard price between €4.50-€8 and were pretty good and had a great variety. I got their toretrllaci neri while my boyfriend got the lasagne, and both came with a basket of bread and some sort of garlic aioli paste to share that I thought was absolutely amazing. The salmon was cooked so flavorfully and the pasta had the amazing homemade texture you get at super fancy Italian restaurants back home in Atlanta. After that, we got chocolate soufflé to share, which tasted like a standard soufflé (to me, it's hard to mess up desserts so as long as it tastes good, it gets a glowing review from me). If you are in the museum area, I would definitely recommend this place and I would come back if I'm back in Amsterdam. read more

I'm kinda upset at myself that I'm just now getting to writing this review after a year raving about it to everyone and anyone who tells me they're going to Amsterdam. It was after a very long flight when we finally landed and were trying to offset the jet lag one has for flying for countless hours. We were all quite hungry and after strolling through Vondelpark which is a very short walk from there. The wait wasn't long whatsoever but we were a table of three so it's quite easy to grab a small table top in most restaurants. Don't let first impressions trick ya because they have a lot of seating throughout! We were escorted downstairs and grabbed a window with a patio view. They do have menus available in Dutch and English for your preferential needs. Our server was one of the sweetest people ever and was very attentive in a respectful manner. Just the right amount of checking in on us without hovering or swinging by every few minutes. For an appetizer we started off with the hummus topped with caramelized onions. Bread and freshly made butter was also served which had a nice touch to it. I'll never say no to carbs so I was all in. Pompa has a menu that has just enough to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters including my grandmother. I love her but she is not that adventurous outside of her regular faves. Lucky for us Yelp let us know ahead of time they had steak and frites which was more than enough for her. I actually had a bite of her cut and it was delicious! (Just remember that you're not in the States anymore if you're visiting from the USA and they'll normally serve fries with mayo. They do have ketchup but politely ask for it and make it known you're American lol) Now my cousin and I were a bit more adventurous and wanted to try some dishes we saw a few folks raving about on Yelp. We ordered the Ravioli Ricotta e Funghi (cream sauce with mushrooms, garlic and white wine) and the Lasagna Bolognese. Both went for about 16 Euros which is a steal in my book. Very fair pricing and well worth what you're getting to eat. I don't even like mushrooms and I was obsessed with the ravioli. So perfectly cooked and the sauce was divine. Now the star of the show was the lasagna for me. I didn't want to let any of the sauce go to waste. Every layer was magical and well-balanced. Not too heavy on any particular ingredient to overpower the others. It was a great dining experience and I still have very fond memories of this dining experience a year later. read more

The Dutch cheese, fresh arugula and secret aioli sauce complemented it perfectly. €6 Tomato Soup...hot, herby, creamy, and oh so incredibly satisfying on a cold rainy day. €5 Deep fried Balls. I'm not sure what was in these...dough, meat, cheese, and spices? I don't care, they are hot, crispy, and deep fried deliciousness. Eat these balls!
