Probably closer to 4.5 stars. Pros: -Absolutely delicious beef cheeks. Wow. More of a beef stew, which maybe is typical of Belgium cuisine... not sure. But man oh man, they knocked this out of the park. Perfectly cooked/tender and the flavors were amazing. -Great service as well. Only two servers running the place and they were attentive. One of them recommended the beef cheeks and... she was right. -Outdoor seating Con: -Poor acoustics. It's a small place and a table of maybe 7 or 8 people, who I don't think were being all that loud, were somehow absolutely deafening. Thankfully they left soon after I got there but this is probably not the kind of place to get to know someone (I was alone). -Cheesy music, but that's subjective :P All in all, food was excellent, good service, prices seemed about average for a touristy part of a Belgian city. I'm so glad we found this restaurant! It was the best meal we had in Belgium so far. I'll start with applauding the service!! The staff was so friendly and nice. They were all smiling and happy - it really makes a difference on the experience when you have great service!! The food was also amazing. We started with the mussels for an appetizer. The broth was great and it was flavored with herbs. My husband ordered the Irish Rib Eye and our server suggested he include a sauce. He got the pepper sauce (like a gravy) and it was amazing. I ordered the Flemish Beef Stew. Wow, this was good. Both dishes came with fries and a small side salad. We had no problem finishing everything! I thought the prices were very reasonable. 1 appetizer, 2 meals, 1 glass of wine, 2 beers for under $90 USD. I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

Alright! Time to try some true Belgium cuisine tonight. Our tour guide mentioned two must-try Ghent specialties: stoverij and waterzooi. We already made reservation for this gem of a restaurant before our tour based on a rave review for its stoverij. And whatta ya know? They also serve waterzooi! I've never had any of the two dishes in Vancouver before, or either that we have them and I've never tried it. I can honestly say that both were fantastic. The stoverij is a stew with beef braised in Belgium beer. C'mon man, they had me at beer :) It came with a side salad & fries. The beef was tender and the sauce, or so called gravy, was sweet and savory. Fries are served with mayo w/mustard. The only disappointment was that the fries weren't crispy. Waterzooi is chicken in a hearty cream soup. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, but you needed to eat this with the soup. Having the chicken alone, it was just chicken. The broth really made this dish special. The restaurant is located kiddy corner from Sint Baafskathedraal. It's in the same square. The window & patio seats offer great views of the cathedral. Service was great. Our waitress was able explain all the dishes that we asked about. She was very helpful. read more

I don't think I am exaggerating if I say this is thé brasserie of Ghent ! Being simple honest Belgo/French food and regional classics. They always have some suggestions and staff is really quick and friendly, they're always ready to help ! Personally I love their flemish stew ( stoofvlees) a regional classic with beer in the sauce and ofcourse French fries to accompany this ... A true delight !!! I've sent friends there a few times and all came back really enthused ! Low key , right in the centre good food ... Just great !!! read more

This place was recommended for its traditional Flemish dishes and it really came through! I had the Stoverij, which is a beef stew carbonnade made with beer. The chef told us he used two different Belgian beers, one sour one sweet, balanced with the wonderful Tierenteyn mustard. A terrific dish. Served with a mound of fries with mayonnaise. For dessert we had creme brûlée- also excellent. Gracious service and a convenient location near St Bavo Cathedral make it a must to visit. read more

Had a Quick dinner here and I wish I'd had more time. Good Belgian friendly hospitality. Quick service. The Steak was perfect. I like them Red and it was just that. Nice place I would recommend it. Also the location right at the bottom of the St.Baaf cathedral was nice. read more
