This place is pretty no frills - basically a bar that serves sandwiches and soup, but the food was tasty and priced reasonably.

Translated into English, this place is called "the Two-headed Phoenix". Here you will find a Liqueur distillery and distilling museum with an authentic Dutch cafe and a liquor store. This is one of the best places for a bite to eat in Zaanse. It was also a favorite highlight to my trip to Zaanse. It is towards the entrance to Zaanse and can be easily missed if you are focused on the pancake restaurant, which is known for being awful. Do yourself a favor and don't go there. Instead look to your left and you will find this place. The main entrance is to the cafe, or you can enter the door to the right of the cafe entrance which will take you to the liquor store and tasting room. You can taste a variety of the different liquors that this distillery makes. This is a family owned business, and has been in Zaanse for about a year and a half. The owners are fantastic to speak with and have alot of passion for what they do. They walked us through the entire history of how they started the distillery, and how they distill and make their special liqueurs. We didn't expect to stay here for so long, but we had so much fun speaking with the owners that we lost track of time. After wards we enjoyed a bite to eat in the cafe. They have several yummy home made treats to try, and delicious coffee to go with it. Definitely a highlight to my trip.

Solid liquor store in Centrum. Very accessible location and easy to find. Pretty good selection of…read morespirits, from scotch to tequila. Wanted a bottle of Jenever to take home and they had several. Prices are a little higher than online, but not too bad.

Every time I can't help but to notice the uniquely shaped bottles of liquor in the shape of a shoe, car or gun on display. The bottles aren't exactly the typical brands but they have those also. Inside is warm and inviting. The wooden shelves that hold the bottles and handful of kegs of liquor give the old world touch, it reminds me of the charm of much of Amsterdam's old pubs. I am just looking around but I already know what I want. The lady who is managing the store is talking on the phone but when she saw me come in, she got off and took the time to address my inquiries. She was so pleasant. I apologized for intruding on her conversation and with a smile she said no problem. She explained the different versions of Absinthe, as that was I was in the market for here. Grabbed a bottle for 20euros as a gift. There are larger bottles that are pricier. Packaging is just paper, nothing fancy. For this business in term of it's age, friendly staff and uniqueness, I walked away with something I can give that is not run of the mill.
