My husband and I were in town on vacation visiting friends. We live 10 hours away in another state…read more We had a problem with our ignition switch in the steering column on a Sunday. We Googled repair options and Summit Repair Shop came up with a similar number of reviews as other shops, so we called them. Before having it towed though, I confirmed that they would indeed have everything needed to work on this particular vehicle, saying that otherwise we would have it towed 60+ miles to the dealer. We were told by the owner, Donnie, that yes he did have what was required. Turns out the shipping on a part was going to take longer than expected, which seemed reasonable, so we rented a truck for a week so my husband could drive back to Illinois to take care of some business. Over that time we were in occasional contact with the repair shop: We got an initial verbal quote. We were called to be informed that shipping was higher than expected and did we want to proceed? It was a difference of about $30, so I said yes. All total that put us around $300-$350 for the repair. Eventually we were called to say it was ready for pick up. Then we were told how much it would cost. It was more than double the original quote. Like anyone, we were a little upset. I don't write reviews like this very often, so had this been all that happened we probably would have just chalked it up to experience, but before we paid naturally wanted to inspect the work done. It was then that we were told that something was "wrong" with the truck in the steering column. We went with the owner to take a look. The cover on the steering column was barely on and the owner said the truck was driving tight (it actually would jerk around on the road and was unsafe to drive) and that the signals didn't work properly. He went on to say that it must have been like this when we brought it in to him. We were stunned! The owner then asked did we want to bring it back in a few days and have him take a further look. We felt this was a ploy to charge us even more, so we declined. To be clear, driving 10 hours one way for a vacation, we had the truck serviced before leaving town and NEVER would have left with the signals not working right and it jerking around on the road. Signs in Summit clearly state that the total has to be paid in full to get a vehicle back. Turns out that is against state law, (https://www.ncleg.net/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/HTML/ByArticle/Chapter_20/Article_15B.html) but we did not know that then so just paid the bill so we could go back to Illinois. After thinking about it, I'll admit, I wanted to cancel the check because we felt take advantage of, but decided against this course of action. At this point we had the vehicle taken to the dealer; something we should have done in the first place. The dealer told us that it appeared the steering column had been taken apart very roughly and that several parts were broken near the ignition switch in the process. Another $700, plus an expensive tow, later and we had our vehicle back working properly, but the steering column housing never fit right again. Being small business owners ourselves, we felt it was only right to talk to the owner about how we felt. We took $350 cash, the amount of the original verbal quote, and asked him to return our check, as he had not cashed it yet. We also gave him a copy of the Repair Act. The owner told us in no uncertain terms to get out. His workers ever started gathering around my husband in a threatening manner, so naturally we left quickly. We did file a complaint with the North Carolina attorneys general's office. They sent many letters to all the addresses known for this business. All were "return to sender." We hope in writing this to spare others from feeling ripped off and horribly inconvenienced like we did. So, at the risk of sounding ominous, beware, especially if you are just passing through. No one should be taken advantage of like this.

In a world where folks mostly look after themselves, you can always get lucky sometimes and find a…read moregood company that values their customers and treats them with the service they deserve. Rarely though, do you find a great company that goes above and beyond any realistic expectation and treats you like family! Damon South gives me hope that there can be salvation for humanity (no pun or hyperbole intended). I had never met this gentleman before in my life when my brand new truck broke down in the middle of nowhere in the mountains in the late afternoon. With 2 crying babies and a 7-year-old in the back seat to go along with a scared wife and a truck that would not move, I felt completely helpless. South Ridge towing was the only tow company I could find in the area that could be summoned. Needless to say that pretty much any prior experience I've had in my life with tow companies has been unpleasant to say the least. I was preparing myself to give up an arm and a leg to get out of this mess. Then I met Damon. He not only got us of the road, but he made sure that we were taken care of from the moment we met until the time we got home. He even allowed us to park our RV on HIS OWN PRIVATE PROPERTY since this was unexpected and we had nowhere to stay. His dad left us his truck for the night in case we had any emergencies with the babies. He met us the next morning and helped us make arrangements for a rental car and provided transportation to get us where we needed to go. I tried to compensate him for the extra care he provided us and he would not take it. He said he just felt he should be neighborly... to a family of complete strangers. I'm convinced he would have given us the very shirt off his back if we needed it. Me and my family are eternally grateful to Damon and everyone else at South Ridge Towing. We were blessed that we were able to cross paths, even in a dire situation. I really do consider you to be a godsend and may you continue to provide hope and fortune to those who encounter misfortune. Damon South has my whole-hearted and enthusiastic endorsement!! While I pray that no one has to encounter difficult situations on the road, it's great to know the South Ridge towing is there to lend a helping hand!!

Great group of guys! They helped us out and were reasonably priced. Thanks Damon and crew!read more
