Shady.... Worst company I ever dealt with. I bought a mini crib on December 15, 2024. It says FREE shipping when checking out. 4 days later they send me an email saying it's $70+ tax for shipping. I contacted them and they say it's in their shipping policy. I was so mad that it wasn't displayed, I felt like they were ripping me off, by putting me on the spot. I refused to pay for the shipping and had my daughter and husband go pick it up.... 45 min drive. The service was slow and brutal and the people there were rude and had bad attitude. Don't buy from here. I bought an open box "new" UBBI diaper pail online and what they shipped was one that was old, used and broken. Someone there had clearly packaged up a used diaper pail and sold it as "new open box". This item cost $109. I contacted them to figure out how to return it thinking it would be an easy process as it's clearly not new, as promised. We know this store from the Baby Show in Oct 2018. We made many visits afterwards. Most of their sales associates are friendly. As first time parents, we have so many questions about baby products, and they answer our questions patiently. They also gave us tips, which help us to finalize our decision of our purchase. I love their stroller section!!! They have so many different strollers to choose from, and we can try them all :-D We bought our Peg Parago Stroller, 4-in-1 convertible crib and dresser, and many other small baby items from them. When we picked up our Peg Parago Stroller from their warehouse (which is located at the back from their store). We just purchased the Peg Perego Book Classico stroller in stone colour. I'm so pleased with the price as it was on sale for $339, which is $100 cheaper than Toys R Us! I would have given this rating 5 stars but the lady that helped me, her name was Carol, was quite rude. I had already read the previous reviews with the hit and miss service of the staff so I was aware prior to visiting the store for the first time. I'm not really one to care about high customer service considering I got my stroller for $100 cheaper!!! The staff Carol who helped us was rude with her one word answers and just overall grumpy, didn't explain about the car seat that I was interested in, I felt like I was asking questions to my husband...advice to the store owner: retrain her to be nicer and more human to customers and show some respect. I wish I had read these reviews prior to going to this store. Customer Service: Horrible. No acknowledgement. No greetings. No warm welcome. Got a stern "What are you here for?" at the door. Sales consultants seemed bored, condescending, and disinterested in assisting you. Booked a consultation. Went in to check out car seats and strollers. Brian was knowledgeable but didn't ask any questions and expected new parents and expectant mothers to arrive having researched everything beforehand. He spoke in a tone that sounded almost sarcastic and unprofessional that you wouldn't want to converse with. Didn't get the impression that he or anyone else who worked there actually cared. Left without purchasing anything. It's unfortunate because they appeared to have a wide selection, and the prices seemed decent. Terrible experience at Dear Born Baby! Firstly their customer service is horrendous. They do not disclose any information to you about final sale items when you do online orders and then will not allow you to exchange. The staff are extremely unhelpful and they do not care about the customer. Secondly being a store that deals with expecting parents and children, the staff do not take appropriate safety measures during COVID. The staff were wearing visors but no masks when we went into the store and we had to request that they put on a mask in which we received attitude back. DO NOT SHOP HERE! read more

So many friendly sales associates when you step inside. They weren't in your face (which I liked) and would give you time to think instead of following you around. The staff are very knowledgeable in their departments, esp. the gentleman in the stroller section. Dear Born Baby even had the Nuna stroller. That thing is so nice and light. Perfect for condo living. Lots of brand name strollers from City Select, Britax, Uppa baby, the list goes on and on. So many products...Honestly I was feeling a bit overwhelmed once stepping inside so it's good to know what you're looking for. Was testing out the Nuna leaf baby swing & other similar products. It was nice to compare the many products available on site. Lots of deals here so it's important to check their website weekly/bi-weekly. Never know what gem you'll find. Lots of parking on the lot. Hit or miss (mostly miss) customer service. Juliet couldn't tell me what sales are going in the store. Didn't listen when I told her I wasn't getting some items and left them with her and then gave a face later when I told her again and they were closing. Staff are generally unfriendly and treat you like an intruder - do not smile or say hello as they walk by. Prices are average or expensive unless you come during a rare event. I agree with the other reviewers -- their customer service is awful. Unfortunately, that's the only way I experienced the store, since I ordered off their website and live in BC. I was looking for a model of car seat that had just come out in Canada, and everyone in BC was telling me it would be another month until they had it, but my daughter needed the car seat ASAP as she'd outgrown her infant seat while waiting for the new Britaxes to finally launch in Canada. Dear-Born Baby said they had the car seat and fabric I wanted in stock, when no one else other than Babies R Us did. They were quick to get back to my email asking that question. And when I ordered the seat from them, they were very quick to take my money. However, after I placed the order, they seemed to have all but gone out of business, and then one of the stores here in BC got the seat. I spent four days trying to contact Dear-Born Baby to find out if they'd shipped the car seat, and they refused to answer the phone or email. I left messages at their web orders extension, at their general inquiries extension, and emailed them twice. I didn't want to be a pest, but it should be a simple thing, right? All they had to do is tell me whether the order shipped. Finally, on the fourth day, I got through to someone on the general extension, who said she couldn't help me because I had to talk to web orders, and they weren't open on the weekend (except that two of the days I left messages for them were business days). On the fifth day, I finally got two emails from them: one saying they'd "processed" my order, and another saying they would refund my order within 10 days. Note: if they are actually refunding my money, that means they will have had my money for 16 days without the item ever leaving their inventory. Given the service others have reported when trying to return an item, it seems like Dear-Born Baby only cares about you until they get your money. After that, give up on any sort of assistance, because you're worthless to them if you want to return or cancel anything. Ok, wow, this store has so much variety! I was really impressed by the amount of stuff they carry in each section. Baby clothes, strollers, diaper bags,cribs, car seats you name it! They had brands from all over too including City, Peg, Graco etc. The staff is helpful, they dont promise to know everything but they totally help you out as best as they can. Their pricing is comparable to other stores so you dont feel like you are being ripped off either just because its a boutiquey establishment. I like that they let you try out the strollers etc before buying them. The parking is the only issue, I must have missed the door for people with strollers, a baby shop would have one right???? read more

Products: They have a huge selection of everything. At the moment it is our "go to" baby store. They usually have different models/styles/colors. Much more variety than most baby stores. Prices: Probably one of the best that we have found. They are usually slightly cheaper than other places. Service: Just like everyone else said. Think of it as a flea market, go find it yourself and if you can't find it don't bother asking the staff. They usually complain that if it isn't on the floor that they don't have it but they have a huge warehouse in the back. Also, returns/exchanges really take an hour so be prepared and go with that expectation. Suggest: if you know what you want and don't need the staff's help go here, get it, get out. If you need their opinion and expertise go somewhere else. Reason for 4 stars: The prices are great and they usually have it in stock. Bought our Peg Perego stroller + car seat here in 2018. The gentleman who helped us, Eugene, was incredibly knowledgeable about all the strollers and car seats. He asked us lots of questions, gave us pros and cons of each brand and then made a recommendation. I had a question after assembling the stroller and he was still super helpful and nice, even on the phone. The rest of the store is nice too, lots of different products and brands that may not be in big box stores. read more

I ordered some items on line from here a few times every time there is a baby coming from one of my friends as it is a lot cheaper here even with the exchange. Shipping has been fast. I did recently have to make a return and they were nice enough to provide an RMA number with the return shipping very minimal. If you do get additional package insurance than you get your shipping free, however, the end game still made it worth while. Good customer service. read more

They have a wide selection of inventory. Their customer service is somewhat lacking. We've called several times on Sat noon and no one answered. When we talked with the staff at the store, we were told that they don't have phones on the floor, and the cash folks are too busy to answer the phone. When you walk into the store it's packed with lots of items, unfortunately seems a little cluttered since the store itself is a bit small. Can get a little over whelming since I was pregnant and had to squeeze by people with strollers, children and other pregnant women. I specifically came here with my husband and my in laws to find a perfect stroller. We were helped by Brian, he showed us how to use the strollers we were interested in. It was great to have his assistance as we were finally able to pick what we wanted. They have a very large selection with most accessories available for each brand. I agree with other reviewers regarding customer service. My first impression was not great and unfortunately, it turned me off this store. I had extensively researched strollers before going in and so had specific questions about 2 specific and competitiv models as well as accessories that might work with them. The first slightly older woman who "greeted" me on the way in was almost rude and somewhat dismissive of my questions. When I asked a question she could not answer, she passed me on to a young guy who was VERY helpful and very polite. The store was having a "no tax" sale that day which would have saved me 5-13% on the stroller, car seat and bassinet. Unfortunately the first impression given by e woman who greeted me soured me in on the store and I decided not to buy from them out of fear that if I had any issues with any of the products I bought, dealing with them on my return trip would be unpleasant. I bought my stroller and car seat at Macklem's in Dundas Street West (closer to downtown where I live). I had previously been into that store to ask about the same 2 strollers as well as others and the salesperson Brandy was absolutely wonderful. Macklem's did not have the bassinet I wanted in stock, which is why I went up to DearBorn Baby to check it out. But after my initial "welcome" at DearBorn, I knew I had to go back to Macklem's. I really am not sure why many of the reviews here have been saying that they offer bad customer service because I have been only experiencing the BEST customer service! In-store or online, they have been nothing but attentive, quick and so pleasant. When we visited the store, despite it being a busy weekend, we were approached numerous times to make sure all of our questions were answered and were taken care of. As for the online registry process, it's been the best ever. I've never had such quick and kind help through email! Every time I had a question or problem, they resolved it right away. I doubt I could get this kind of service at any other big-box baby store. As for products, I love the variety and prices at this store. They carry a lot of things from all over the world, and it is rarely over-priced. I am so happy that I can purchase a lot of things I would have to pay ridiculous duty and shipping for, if it was from directly from the international stores. I find that their products are generally 5-10% cheaper than toys r us, and usually in stock (or quickly restocked and notified). They also carry a lot of things that toyrs r us does not. I am very happy about this store! Thanks for making this crazy baby-preparation experience so much nicer. read more

Fantastic store!! They have EVERYTHING. We were getting really fed up with Babies R Us and other baby stores that are notoriously out of stock of everything. So we were SO pleasantly surprised to find this store. It's a trek for us from the West end, but it has been totally worth our time each time we've made the trip. They have SO many demo strollers, which made stroller shopping a breeze. We were able to compare a few strollers side-by-side, opening & closing them, pushing them around the store, etc. At other stores we'd been to, we could only try whatever limited stock they had, and it made comparisons much trickier, since you'd rely on memory from one store to the next. But this store had it all! We did find that some of the staff were less helpful than others. But we got lucky and had Brian show us everything there was to know about strollers. He was SO helpful, pointing out differences between brands, pros & cons of some of the ones we were considering, tricks on how to use them, etc. He must have spent at least an hour helping us on our first visit, and another 1/2 hour on our second visit. On a subsequent visit, we also had help from a younger female staff member, whose name I *think* was Meg? This store has a great selection of nursery furniture, swings, playpens, high chairs, diaper bags, feeding supplies, bedding, etc. etc. etc. We have bought some of the more significant purchases from here, and have been suggesting this store to all our pregnant friends as well. Some of the staff do walk around looking a little lost, so don't settle for their help. Accept it from someone with a little more energy, it will be worth it. There are at least a few who are quite knowledgeable. They apparently do not work on commission either, which was refreshing to learn even after so much helpfulness. In term of their service, it really depended who was helping you. There was one guy (I forgot his name, but he was short with glasses) was extremely nice, knew all the baby gears and explained everything in details. Then the other day I went, a lady wasn't very friendly... so I guess this is the reasonable why you would see some extreme reviews here from 1 star to 5 stars, nothing in between. They carry a lot of different brands and they have more items in-store than their website. I strongly recommend you to go to their store to check out their sale and regular items before you buy anything online because YES, their return process is slow and troublesome. When you and /or your wife is pregnant and/or your kids are crying/running around, you really don't have the patient to deal with their return process. I got my son's crib, dresser, high chair, single full size stroller & double stroller (recently) and some other small items there and so far they are still in good condition, no major problem. read more

If I could give them less than 1 start I would. I did my registry here and would highly recommend not doing it. Most of the items will be out of stock and then to top it off their service is horrible. You go in store and select items with them but when the registry is set up the first time, they never inform you if anything is missing, etc. So now you have to try and remember what is left. Then if an item gets available they do not further inform you and just add it when you would have gone ahead and selected something else, so now you are stuck with duplicates. Mom's beware...this is the worst place to go for registry!!! It is not an easy thing with them and you have to keep on top of them/monitoring which is sad....it should never be so difficult. This store does have a lot of selection which is obvious if you visit the website. If you know exactly what you want to buy then this store is worth going to if there is a sale going on. The store loses points on customer service - I found the service of the person who helped us to be a bit disingenuous, because she was more concerned with rushing us to make a decision than to give us a chance to take a good look around. So I am surprised to read that they are not in commission since they are required to write their names on the order slips. Other sales reps were quite nice but not necessarily knowledgeable. They also try to up-sell on the floor and at the cash register. It is final sale on sale items - this was not posted anywhere and we were only told this after our credit card was run through. We also waited 30 minutes in line to pay even though there were only a small handful of people in line which, for parents with small children and expecting moms, is an awfully long time to be standing in line for! read more

DEAR BORN BABY SELLS USED GOODS AS NEW...BEWARE!!!! We went to Dear Born Baby and decided to purchase a Peg Perego travel system We went to the front and paid. We were then told to go around back to collect our purchased item. We did so and brought it home. We noticed that the box indicated a colour other than the one we had purchased. The store was closed by then. The next day, I had numerous phone calls back and forth with a salesgirl who at first indicated to me that the colour that I was looking for did not exist. I told her that not only did it state that colour on our bill which she could view on her system but that they had that exact model and colour on the floor. She advised me that she would call me back. Eventually, I did get a call back and was told that they would exchange it for us if we came in right away to do so. My husband went in the very next day and made the exchange. When he brought the box home and opened it, he discovered that all of the items in the box had already been taken out of the packaging and that the stroller itself had been used!! We were quite upset since we thought we had bought and paid for a NEW travel system. When I called to tell them what had happened, the girl I spoke with was extremely rude. I asked to speak to a manager and she advised me that both managers were too busy to come to the phone but that one of the two would call me back. Several hours later, after not hearing back from anyone at Dear Born, I called again and spoke to another girl who told me that they do not have managers at the store but she would have someone else call me back. All we wanted was the brand new stroller in the correct colour that we paid for. I couldn't get an answer as to whether they would exchange it or not and didn't want to send my husband in for nothing. After numerous phone calls back and forth, they finally told us that we could return the item for a refund within seven days but that they would not exchange it EVEN THOUGH THEY ADMITTED THAT THE ITEM WE RECEIVED WAS INDEED A RETURN by a woman who they had supposedly given the wrong item to. My husband went back to the store for a THIRD time and returned the item. We will never do business with such a disreputable company again and just want to caution those of you out there so you don't make the same mistake we did. read more

What a horror show! I wish I could give no stars. My mother-in-law found this store and ordered our crib and mattress. She took me there the following day to check everything out. The sales rep she had been speaking with was completely disinterested in helping us when we asked for her (despite her just leaning on furniture gossiping with other staff). There seemed to be PLENTY of staff but they were all just standing around talking. They didn't seem to like being interrupted. I asked her about the various mattresses, describing our preferences for something with coils, organic, etc. She just kept pushing a foam mattress with no certifications regarding our questions. Each time I had a question for her, she would just read the obvious features on the mattress bag! When I would be more specific as that wasn't answering our question, she would repeat one of the features that was kind of relevant. When I looked through the high chairs, I asked about three models I had researched online. Again she was kept pushing the one on sale - which did not come with a tray. I asked her about a tray and she tried to sell me several that were not certified BPA free - despite that being a priority for us. I'm not sure why she was pushing something on sale, when it turned out they had our first pick at regular price :/ Strange sales tactics. Asking her about the differences between the mattress covers and pads, she literally read each package to me. Again asking more in depth, I confirmed she had NO PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE! My mother-in-law had already purchased the crib. They promised to call on the following Tuesday with an approximate ship date. I left voicemails for a month and no one ever responded. Do they ever answer the phone during business hours? So one day I just rang them back to back until someone picked up. I asked for the delivery date and after being on hold for 25min, the woman said our sales rep was on the phone and would return my call in 10min. An hour later I started ringing back to back until they answered. I asked for a manager, who was too busy to take my call. I told the girl any sales rep could look me up and I wasn't going to wait for another call. She came back 15min later explaining their supplier was on strike and they've no idea when or if I'd get the crib. I asked how I could go about getting my refund. She came back on the line 10min later guaranteeing my crib would come in one month's time - which it did. When we called in to confirm our pick up of the crib I was left on hold for 45min! I gave up. We just drove over and it took the sales rep over half an hour to figure out if everything was ready to go, despite our having the original receipt. I can't express what a horrible feeling it is dealing with the staff there. Slow. Unprofessional. Disinterested. Not knowledgeable. They've got a LOT of product crammed in a tiny shop but the staff and energy of the place is such a BAD TURNOFF. I would say don't ever waste your time there. It's not just frustrating, it's work shopping there. It kills any joy or excitement you had in browsing/purchasing for your new addition. It's really not worth it. I like this store, they have a good selection of products and a great furniture showroom. I have happily spent hundreds, maybe even thousands, of dollars here over the years. My personal experience with them has been completely fine without any problem and when I have asked for help it has been happily provided, but I have witnessed other people with issues at the customer service desk and pretty much my takeaway is if there's an issue with an open product, it's between you and the manufacturer - don't go to the store about it. Bottom line is to do your research ahead of time and buy exactly what you want (especially when it comes to car seats, I didn't find them particularly helpful in store so I did my own research online). If you don't see something on the shelf you can ask for help and certain employees definitely will go above and beyond to help you find it. This store has a large selection of items; however, be forewarned that if you want to buy something that is NOT in stock, you may have to deal with their AWFUL customer service rep. I placed an order on January 15 for a stroller clips, and was told that they would place the order for me. I paid 50% as a deposit, as the store does not allow for exchange or refund on "special order" items. And by "special order", they mean anything that they do not currently have inventory in store, even if they order it on a regular basis... So a month goes by and no one calls me to tell me that the item is in, so I made several phone calls. Four to be exact, and each time I was told that the person in charge of special order would call me back. Surprise, no one ever did. On my fourth attempt, which is March 19, I was told that the stroller clips should come in next week. However, as I am due any day now, I asked the person if the store could ship the item to me, since they failed to inform me the length of time that I had to wait for the stroller clips. They also have a layaway charge, which means if you don't pick it up within a certain time (2 weeks, I think), they will charge you a stroage fee for each day that you don't pick it up. I told the lady on the phone that if I go into labour, there is no way I'm going to be able to come and pick it up for weeks. She said there is nothing she could do to help me and told me that the item will be in next week?! And as the other reviewers also mentioned, they are grossly understaffed, so if you are going on a Saturday and want to do a refund or an exchange, you'll be standing in line forever, as they are never happy that you're returning or exchanging an item, and they DO MAKE YOU WAIT! I will NEVER go back there or let that store have another cent of my money. read more

Bought Baby Scroller Set and Baby Crib Set from them. Spent $4000 on these. After Crib sets is delivered our nightmare began. We found out lots of manufacture dents and drawers will not close with a hard push. We were told to send email and photos/videos so they can see it. Michelle the ONLY warranty reps there before we bought had said there is no problem to exchange it or they will have someone fix it. Guess what? Not she does not reply to any of OUR phones call or emails. She simple just ignore our complaints. We just got this 2 weeks ago and so far non of the store reps is calling me back to fix out problem. Dear Born baby has fantastic customer service. We fell in love with a certain type of sleepsack and can only find it in Canada (we live in the US.) We ordered a sleep sack from Dear Born and was sent the wrong one. I immediately emailed their customer service group (at 10;00 pm) and received an email response the next morning before noon. They were very kind and helpful and we received the correct sleep sack as fast as possble. We were also told to keep the one we recieved in error ($50 value)... so they made things right. My mother and I went to Dearborn this past Wednesday afternoon to just browse their selection of products for my upcoming baby. The experience was awful, we walked in and no one greeted us. Just visited the Dear-Born Baby to return an adapter for a stroller. I had the receipt which showed it was purchased 4 months ago. I'm aware that's a long time in retail life and, as I was told repeatedly, "against their policy to take back items over 30 days." I was in the retail world for over 25 years and when a customer had an issue, even if it was not our policy, we would find a mutually satisfactory resolution, not simply turn them away with a shrug. Customer service is so important these days when there are so many businesses clamouring for your business. The item I was attempting to return was unopened, in its original packaging and would be easily resold. It has no expiry date and is currently still available in their store. I wasn't asking for cash but a gift card. I also have shopped in this particular store over the years for my 3 children and grandchildren. I asked the sales clerk to please check with a supervisor or manager. She went and checked with "someone" in the back office and returned to tell me the same thing..."not our policy." We purchased a stroller from them at a baby show in Toronto and were told they had them in stock at their store ready to go. They said they would deliver it for free or we could pick it up from the store and they would give us a $25 gift card. We decided to pick it up as we wanted to use the gift card for accessories for the stroller. Showed up today to pick up the stroller we had already paid in full for $650, we're told they don't have it in stock and need to order it in. It's about an hour drive from my house in Oakville to this store in Thornhill, at this point I ask them to deliver it, they say no it's not possible at this point, I then ask for a manager and she agrees but they would no longer give me $25 gift card, ok fine whatever it's $25. After all of this hassle I'm still stupid enough to try to purchase accessories for the stroller, the person I was speaking with told me that it would be too difficult to add it to my current order and it would be better to buy it someone else.....WTF???? lol. I really wish they would have just been honest when I purchased the stroller, I would have purchased it anyway, they either lied to get the sale or are just plain stupid, either way I would avoid this store. read more

I have to say I had a pretty bad experience there. I live equi-distant between Dear-Born Baby and Moms to Be and More and thought I'd check out Dear-Born. First of all, the store is actually kind of dirty, although they do have a huge selection. The customer service is also really terrible. I tried to get the attention of several sales clerks several times and was passed over every time for another customer (always a couple - I was there alone). When I finally did get someone's attention she couldn't answer a single question I had and left me waiting a loooong time to find out the answer. When I finally found what I was looking for (alone), I got into a bit of a fight with the cashier when I asked about their twins discount. It turns out, you only get the discount when you buy two of the same item (at Moms to Be you get the discount on everything, even if you only buy one). I asked if this applied to the diaper bag I was buying and was told I would have to buy 2 of the same bag to get the discount. WHAT? Who needs two of the same bag? I asked if this applied to bigger items like strollers and the cashier got really annoyed and asked why they would give a discount if I wasn't buying two? I pointed out that I would never need two of the same stroller and that Moms to Be offers a twins discount on everything and all I was saying was that if I was going to make a large purchase it wouldn't be worth my time to shop at Dear-Born Baby. THEN she said, "Oh - well, of course we will offer the discount on something like a stroller." I just looked at her totally confused and thought - "yeah, you people have no idea what you're doing." I've heard lots of stories about people being told one thing there and then hearing a completely different story once it's time to pay. This store needs clearer, fairer policies and sales staff who know what they're talking about. read more

There was a time that I was so excited about this store, because as the other reviewers said, it has everything. But their service and lack of organization has made me so frustrated with them. Someone got me the Mustela gift bag for my shower (it was on my registry) and upon receiving it I no longer wanted it. All I asked for was store credit as there were other things I would have gotten at the store but apparently they failed to mention on the site and to the person who bought me the gift, that this item was FINAL sale (for hygienic reasons, which really surprised me as you could clearly tell that apart from no seals being broken on the bottles, and they are plastic ones, the zipper seal was intact as well!). The manager did not want to exchange it for a store credit either and this was after spending so much money at that store. She was rude and just unpleasant to deal with. Our family had recently also gotten us a car seat during the Baby Show as a present and when I went to pick it up I wanted to exchange it for another colour which they specifically said was OK during the show (our family made sure of that). Well of course what should have taken a few minutes took half an hour as this had to be approved by the manager! Their service is slow and just bad. I feel like they make up these policies half of the time. I also find them pricey and super disorganized. read more
