I went into this birth after a previous C-section, really hoping for a HBAC but honestly not fully trusting that my body would get me there. After a few days of what felt like never-ending contractions (turns out it was prodromal labor), I was completely exhausted and starting to spiral a bit mentally. Beth helped us figure out what was actually going on--baby had flipped posterior--and gave us really clear direction on what to do next. No pressure, no fear, just calm, grounded guidance. By the time active labor hit, I was in a pretty raw place. Tired, emotional, unsure. When Beth and team arrived, everything shifted. Before the interview we read her DoulaMatch profile and were automatically drawn to her science background. As a black woman, it was most important to me that our doula have extensive knowledge about the intricacies of the pregnancy and birth process. From our first meeting with Sharon, it was clear that she possessed that knowledge. At our first meeting, Sharon was very warm but professional. She answered all of our questions in depth and with follow ups we had not considered. Her company Doula Diligence provides very structured educational programs along with birth support. We walked into the delivery room feeling confident that we had the information to advocate for ourselves if needed. The birth plan we created with Sharon during our meetings was very clear and multiple nurses told us that it was the best birth plan they had seen. During the birth itself, Sharon provided invaluable guidance and support. From the first text messages we sent to her to inform her I was being induced, she kept in touch and followed up with us until she was able to make it to the hospital. When she arrived, I was in active labor with a epidural that failed. Sharon instantly got to work making the room a more inviting place and providing me with massages and counter pressure to take my mind off the excruciating pain I was experiencing. At a point the anesthesiologist suggested removing and replacing my epidural. But after talking to Sharon, I decided to tough it out as our baby was already crowing. With Sharon's help with breathing techniques, I pushed her out within 20 minutes with minimal tearing. I've recommended Sharon and Doula Diligence to multiple people in my personal life because I could not imagine going through this experience without her. I do not intend to give birth again, but if that were to change, I will be using her services again. I highly highly recommend you choose Doula Diligence as a birth doula. They even have other services such as night nursing and sleep training guidance (which will be using when the time comes). TLDR: 10/10 experience, would hire these doulas again.

After experiencing a stillbirth the year before, this pregnancy was incredibly tender for my husband and me. From the beginning, Janai understood that. She had an incredible ability to help us separate the two pregnancies while still honoring what we had been through and giving me space to work through the fears that naturally came with being pregnant again. She never dismissed those fears, but she also helped me approach this pregnancy and birth with confidence instead of allowing fear to take over. When it became clear that I would be induced, Janai took the time to educate us about the induction process and help us understand our options. Because of that preparation, I felt informed and was able to advocate for myself throughout my induction (with her by our side). After everything we had experienced, having that sense of control and empowerment meant more to me than I can put into words. Janai was absolutely incredible during labor. I truly believe she is the reason I was able to give birth without an epidural, which was something I had really hoped for. She continuously helped me move into optimal positions, supported me through the intensity of labor! I was able to have the birth I had hoped for, and Janai played such a huge part in making that possible. After the experience we had the year before, I cannot adequately express what it meant to come away from this birth feeling safe, empowered, and so proud of myself. I knew I wanted a home birth if I had kids since someone told me years ago that they had a home…read morebirth and they didn't even give me any details. When I got pregnant and did research on it, it just confirmed that I wanted it. I wanted someone who would spend more time and get to know me so that they could feel confident and I could feel confident to safely give birth at home. I just didn't think a doctor at a hospital was going to get to know me or make me trust in them to be safe. My husband was scared of the thought of a home birth and I was scared of the thought of a hospital birth. He has turned around and would do the home birth again. So many of my friends were telling me horror stories of their births and the interventions they went through at hospitals. I knew I wouldn't be able to stand up or question why if a doctor wanted to do an intervention and that I may regret it after so I chose to do a home birth where an intervention was not an option. My sessions with Shelia were an hour long and I completely trusted her to take care of me and if she had told me to go to the hospital or have an intervention I would have because we built that type of relationship. At each session she did my vitals, asked about diet, exercise, sleep and emotions I may be feeling before measuring my abdomen and listening for the fetal heart. She always gave me information about each test that was standard care and let me decide if I wanted to do it. I always felt like I was in control of my health. Our appts got closer together as I got further along and honestly I loved going to them and listening to the baby. It never felt like a doctors office and I never waited in a lobby. She has a beautiful office and welcomes anyone that wants to join which my 6 year old niece did a couple of times and it was great. When I was ready to give birth everything went well and although it was really long, I never once felt scared or regret in my choice. Shelia was monitoring the baby and giving me advice on positioning to get moving along. When my baby was born she put him on me right away and made sure we were both doing well before cleaning up, making me a large batch of concentrated sitz bath tea she saw I had purchased, adding it to some of the pads and froze them to help with the pain (she really didn't have to do) and then clamped the baby's umbilical cord and did all the exams. I would have Shelia again if I were to give birth again in the future. She really took care of me and made me feel safe and I was really happy through it all.

Completely unprofessional and neglectful. My experience with Jennifer as a midwife was truly…read moredisturbing. This was my first pregnancy and I was relying on Jennifer to guide me through birth. A couple hours after my contractions became constant and increasingly intense, I called her. She told me to lay down and get some sleep, that it would be at least 24 hours. When I asked if I should let her know when contractions reached a certain timing, she told me not to time them at all. I asked when she would know to come, and her answer was: "I'll hear it in your voice." Apparently that means when you can't speak then she'll come. Four hours later, I gave birth. During that time, I labored alone--scared, confused, and unsupported. Jennifer did not check in with me by text or phone. The doula Jennifer referred me to was also no help during labor. I called her 4 times to please come but she kept saying it wasn't time yet and only telling me to keep breathing over the phone. I felt helpless. Finally, after the fourth call she came and arrived at 10:30, by 11:20pm I gave birth. Jennifer didn't arrive until 12:30am--well after my baby was born. I was worried because she lived over 40 mins away but always told me she would be there. She reassured me she never missed a birth which is obviously a lie. Afterwards, when I tried to express how traumatic this was for me she took no accountability. She claimed she did everything right and only blamed the doula for not communicating with her. She also put the blame on me claiming my labor was just "too fast." She had always told me to wait until she arrived for the tub because she would set everything up. So everything we planned was pointless, I gave birth standing up over my bathroom counter. She said there were absolutely no refunds and never apologized for what I went through. I was robbed of my water birth experience. This was supposed to be a supported, empowering home birth. Instead, it was the most frightening experience of my life. I'm now terrified of ever getting pregnant again. I could never recommend Jennifer as a midwife she will not be there when you need her the most.

Her gentle and confident approach made us feel safe. Johanna is never in a rush whether it be during her pre-and postnatal visits or with a question over the phone, she is always there and present when you need her. She is reliable, accommodating, always on time and keeps her word. Johanna's visits taught us so much and answered many questions that we never would have known who to ask them to. The prenatal visits made us so much more prepared as first time parents not just for a healthy and satisfying birth, but also with questions such as sleeping arrangements, breast-feeding support, pregnancy clothing, and postnatal support to name a few. Johanna seemed to know exactly what we wanted out of our birth beyond what we even knew, and made the birth experience memorable and very enjoyable. Mrs. Ofelia also helped us set up a schedule for his eating and sleeping, suggested ideas to make our space more baby friendly and taught us methods for burping, soothing and bathing. Even though she has been working with babies for decades, Mrs. Ofelia underscored that we were the ones who would know our son's needs best. Her consistent advice was for my wife to use her intuition to understand what to do. Because of the foundation of information she provided and her constant encouragement, we were able to feel sure about our choices and more assured that we'd make good decisions after she left. Mrs. Ofelia's emphasis on us taking the time to learn our baby extended to her assistance with household tasks that didn't go away just because we had a newborn. She never stopped working. Her efforts let us focus on taking care of our baby and resting and recovering. We could give our son the energy and attention he needed and that we wanted to provide. We almost began our sessions with Mrs. Ofelia a week after our son's birth. We were so thankful that we decided to start early. My wife and I joked that if we hadn't, we would have spent our initial days with Mrs. Ofelia unlearning our errors made before she'd arrived. Instead, with Mrs. Ofelia by our side, we know we provided the strongest start we could give our newborn. Our pediatrician was impressed by his growth and we are more confident parents. Then in our postpartum visits Faith was so kind in hearing me as I processed the birth experience I had in the hospital and how it really wasn't what I had wanted/envisioned. She offered me a rebonding session in the birth room where I could basically redo my golden hour. It was such a healing experience. Faith and her team also helped me with filling for disability and completing that paperwork, which was super important to support me on my maternity leave. I'm now almost five months postpartum, and I wanted to wait until I had some distance from my…read morepregnancy and postpartum experience before writing this review. There were parts of my experience with Faith and her team that I genuinely appreciated, as well as parts that were difficult for me and ultimately made my pregnancy more stressful than I had hoped it would be. Earlier in my pregnancy, communication was sometimes a source of stress for me. There were quite a few times when messages I sent through the chat went unanswered. One situation that particularly concerned me happened around Christmas, when I was told that my lab order might not be put in on time. I was supposed to have my progesterone checked every two weeks, and because I had experienced two prior miscarriages, going even a few days beyond that timeframe made me anxious. As my pregnancy progressed, I also struggled with some of the expectations around my care. At one point, I was told I could be put on probation for not consistently attending my chiropractic appointments, despite communicating that I was struggling financially at the time. I was required to see Sarah specifically, rather than having the option to see a chiropractor closer to me who was more affordable. The visits were also expected weekly, even during times when I felt sore afterward and felt that my body needed a break. The financial aspect became increasingly difficult for my family during the middle and later parts of my pregnancy. My insurance at the time did not cover the ultrasounds I was required to receive, so I was paying approximately $600-$900 per ultrasound on top of payments for Faith's care and chiropractic visits. There was also a $12 valet charge each time I came in for an appointment. My husband and I own a business, and we experienced a slowdown during my pregnancy, so these combined expenses became difficult to manage. I do appreciate that Faith offered me a payment plan through Credee, which helped when the costs began piling up. There were other moments when I felt more pressured than supported. I remember feeling stressed about my baby not being head-down by a certain point in pregnancy. I personally felt that my baby still had time to turn and wanted to trust my body, so the concern around it added anxiety for me rather than reassurance. I had a similar experience with recommendations around drinking 15 cups of water per day and taking herbs after some of my lab numbers were one or two points elevated. I'm personally very cautious about taking herbs or medications unless I feel they're necessary, so I declined the herbs. I sometimes felt judged or pressured when I wasn't meeting those recommendations, rather than feeling that my preferences were fully respected. Toward the end of my pregnancy, I unexpectedly learned during an ultrasound at Keck Medicine that my baby was measuring small, and I ultimately needed to transfer my care to a hospital. This was an overwhelming time, and I really appreciated Faith's support during the transfer. She helped calm me down and reminded me that I still had time to choose the hospital where I wanted to deliver and that I still had a say in my care. That helped me feel like I had some control during a situation that changed very quickly. Tahira was also incredibly helpful during this time. She researched different hospitals for me and helped me explore my options, which ultimately allowed me to choose the hospital where I felt most comfortable delivering my baby. My postpartum experience with Faith was much more positive. She came to my home to check on both me and my baby, and I found her much more pleasant and supportive during that period. After feeling like there were so many expectations I needed to meet throughout pregnancy, postpartum felt like a huge relief because I no longer felt that same pressure. I also want to mention Tchala, who was consistently calm, supportive, and pleasant throughout my experience. I really appreciated her demeanor and the way she interacted with me. Overall, I'm grateful for the support I received during some of the most important moments of my pregnancy, particularly during my transfer and postpartum period. At the same time, I wouldn't describe my overall pregnancy experience as the calm and supportive experience I had hoped for. The combination of financial pressure, required appointments, communication issues, and feeling pressured around certain recommendations created additional stress during an already vulnerable time. I'm sharing this because I think experiences with pregnancy and midwifery care can be very personal. Some families may appreciate a more structured approach with clear expectations, while others may prefer more flexibility and autonomy. For me, I would have benefited from more flexibility, responsiveness, and understanding of my individual circumstances and preferences.

I wanted to have a natural birth without medication, but was wondering if I had the strength to do it. I was so lucky to have Sarah recommended to me through a friend. As scared as I was feeling, I realized that I needed someone "on my side" to look out for me during the delivery. Sarah was so accommodating and met with me at a coffee shop to chat about my different options, told me more about what a natural birth would entail, and other considerations I hadn't been aware of. She was so positive and supportive that I left our first meeting feeling less fearful, even confident about delivering my baby! As a former L&D nurse, Sarah already knows so much about what labor is usually like, and what processes the hospitals will have in place. We took a private class with her on labor/delivery and baby care and decided we wanted to hire her as our Doula. Best decision we have ever made. She is grounded in her extensive medical knowledge and has been a part of over 5000 births as a labor and delivery nurse which brought us even more comfort and confidence in her as our Doula. She's super relatable and a great listener. I have met a lot of Doulas during my pregnancy and she stood out from all of them. She's just so normal and easy to talk to..i don't know how else to articulate that. The other doulas I've met haven't really been relatable for me ....a little too granola for me i guess.
