That, paired with the incredible preparation and education she provided to me and my husband, gave me the confidence I needed going into my unplanned induction at 41 weeks. Her support didn't end after birth. Stacey continued to check in with me during those early postpartum weeks and connected me with resources including the lactation consultant and perinatal therapist who became hugely important parts of my postpartum support system. One thing worth noting is YES Stacey is busy and YES your prenatal appointments may be rescheduled (possibly multiple times, which stressed me out beyond belief as a first time mom who had insisted to her husband that investing in a doula would be worth it). However, I learned that this just comes with the territory of working with a doula who is on call for other births and (rightfully) prioritizes a client in labor over a prep appointment. This was hard for me to sit with but I ultimately chose to trust that when it was my turn, she would show up as she said she would, and she did. Jen has been there for me EVERY step of the way on this wild rollercoaster to motherhood! I wanted to feel supported and try for a VBAC for my second birth so I decided to work with Andrey for the birth of our daughter. Everything went good at the beginning, we had our in person interview, shortly after that meeting we decided we would be a fit for each other. After that she came over one more time and afterwards she told me she had a family oversees she was working with and would be available via phone/zoom and if needed to she would introduce me to a back up doula incase she wasn't back in time for my birth. The way she introduced us was thru text (no phone call or even an effort to do a zoom call so me and that back up doula could meet each other) no professionalism. My prenatal care was very limited nothing close to what Andrey promotes. Then I asked for a list of what to bring in my birth bag, she said she would send, I had to ask about 4 times until she sent and the reason I didn't get it was because she had sent it to a 'Victoria' how do you forget your clients name especially when you are a part of one of the most vulnerable times in their life. Fast forward to my birth Andrey ended up not being there. I ended up working with the back up doula & my first time meeting her and talking to her was her walking in my room while I laid in my bed clothe-less in pain as I was going thru my contractions (not the most ideal setting to meet someone for the first time who is going to be a part of a raw and emotional intimate time) a few days later Andrey lets me know shes back in LA and is coming to see me & baby to help with postpartum care. Then texts me cancelling because her car is in the shop (She could've taken an Uber) and cannot make it and she can come another day. She comes over a couple days after that for a few hours and tells me she will be back @10am the next day to help us some more. The next morning @9:35am she txts me she cannot make it and isn't available until the following week. I had cancelled help from my sitter to help with my newborn and toddler and my husband had left to work because we had relied on having help from Andrey that morning. At that point I was feeling extremely upset. The care and support I was expecting which Andrey advocates heavily on was nowhere close to what I was given. What was supposed to be a time in my life where I should've been given unwavering love and support turned into a time of grief and sadness for me. I decided to have a conversation with Andrey and let her know how I was feeling and I no longer felt comfortable working together. She apologized and told me I was a client that 'fell thru the cracks.' Simply she overcommitted and I was put in the back burner or was her last option sadly. She offered to bring some postpartum stuff to help with grief and overall just to help me emotionally and would drop it off in the next couple days, she never did. Unfortunately Andrey constantly overpromised and underdelivered.

All of the techniques she offered me, the constant emotional and physical support during labor (she is a talented masseuse!!), and her encouragement and backing of all my birth preferences (including ensuring our gender reveal stayed a surprise until the very end!) made the day such a positive experience. Not to mention, had Robyn not been there, I felt there was a very high likelihood I would have had to have had a cesarean birth due to my extended labor process. Instead, the techniques and positions Robyn worked with the doctors and nurses to offer meant that I got to have the safe and healthy delivery I had hoped for. Robyn also set an incredible vibe (music, candlelight, relaxing aromatherapy, honey sticks for energy!) that made the room feel special instead of cold and sterile. Even before the birth, Laura was constantly checking in on me, offering advice on everything from what to eat and drink to exercises that would help make labor easier. None of this was really her job, but she was always willing to go above and beyond to help. When we got home from the hospital, totally exhausted and unsure of what to do, Laura was right there, stepping in to take care of the baby so we could get some much-needed rest. Every night, she took care of our little one with so much love and attention, and in the morning, she'd fill us in on everything, giving us tips on how to handle different situations. We were so thankful to have her--she really saved us from making a lot of rookie mistakes. Laura's personality is just so warm and reassuring. As a black woman, it was most important to me that our doula have extensive knowledge about the intricacies of the pregnancy and birth process. From our first meeting with Sharon, it was clear that she possessed that knowledge. At our first meeting, Sharon was very warm but professional. She answered all of our questions in depth and with follow ups we had not considered. Her company Doula Diligence provides very structured educational programs along with birth support. We walked into the delivery room feeling confident that we had the information to advocate for ourselves if needed. The birth plan we created with Sharon during our meetings was very clear and multiple nurses told us that it was the best birth plan they had seen. During the birth itself, Sharon provided invaluable guidance and support. From the first text messages we sent to her to inform her I was being induced, she kept in touch and followed up with us until she was able to make it to the hospital. When she arrived, I was in active labor with a epidural that failed. Sharon instantly got to work making the room a more inviting place and providing me with massages and counter pressure to take my mind off the excruciating pain I was experiencing. At a point the anesthesiologist suggested removing and replacing my epidural. But after talking to Sharon, I decided to tough it out as our baby was already crowing. With Sharon's help with breathing techniques, I pushed her out within 20 minutes with minimal tearing. I've recommended Sharon and Doula Diligence to multiple people in my personal life because I could not imagine going through this experience without her. I do not intend to give birth again, but if that were to change, I will be using her services again. I highly highly recommend you choose Doula Diligence as a birth doula. They even have other services such as night nursing and sleep training guidance (which will be using when the time comes). TLDR: 10/10 experience, would hire these doulas again.

After experiencing a stillbirth the year before, this pregnancy was incredibly tender for my husband and me. From the beginning, Janai understood that. She had an incredible ability to help us separate the two pregnancies while still honoring what we had been through and giving me space to work through the fears that naturally came with being pregnant again. She never dismissed those fears, but she also helped me approach this pregnancy and birth with confidence instead of allowing fear to take over. When it became clear that I would be induced, Janai took the time to educate us about the induction process and help us understand our options. Because of that preparation, I felt informed and was able to advocate for myself throughout my induction (with her by our side). After everything we had experienced, having that sense of control and empowerment meant more to me than I can put into words. Janai was absolutely incredible during labor. I truly believe she is the reason I was able to give birth without an epidural, which was something I had really hoped for. She continuously helped me move into optimal positions, supported me through the intensity of labor! I was able to have the birth I had hoped for, and Janai played such a huge part in making that possible. After the experience we had the year before, I cannot adequately express what it meant to come away from this birth feeling safe, empowered, and so proud of myself. We absolutely love Janai, and we are incredibly thankful to Doula Diligence for matching us with her. She was exactly the person we needed for this journey, and I will forever be grateful that she was there to support us and welcome our son into the world.
