I approached Mr. Matthews after my release regarding a partial refund for his lack of progress in my case, and he responded negatively - no refunds! Also, he is diffcult tp get a hold of after the hire. Not recommended.

On December 17, during a phone conference, I raised specific concerns about jurisdiction. I was advised that there were no jurisdictional issues and my situation was compared to that of a military family. However, on January 6, I was later informed that jurisdictional challenges did in fact exist. In late January, due to time-sensitive concerns, I contacted the firm multiple times requesting assistance. On January 26, I was told the attorney was unavailable for over a week due to trial preparation, and an appointment was scheduled. Later that same day, I was informed that the firm did not have the time or capacity to continue representation. Following termination, my trust balance was returned, but the retainer was retained as "earned." I was not provided with itemized billing, time records, or a detailed explanation of the work performed to support that conclusion. I also filed a complaint with The Florida Bar. The firm was required to respond by a specified deadline, and, to my knowledge, no response was provided within that timeframe. Based on my experience, there was a lack of consistency in the assessment of a key legal issue, limited availability during a time-sensitive matter, and insufficient transparency regarding billing. I would recommend that prospective clients ask detailed questions about jurisdictional analysis, attorney availability, and how fees will be documented and supported.

Allen and Abary billed me roughly five times what my wife's attorney charged her. His retainer was…read more2000 but special case for me was 5000. There are bogus charges such as spending a half hour to look over her witness list. There were no witnesses. Mr. Allen never contacted my ex wife's legal representative to negotiate anything on my behalf (confirmed) I worked out all the details, then at the arraignment he started "negotiating" so he could charge more(confirmed). The process took 25 minutes his "negotiation" took 3 hours. That tactic resulted additional money for her legal fees. There are reviews that say he's biased to the women. Based on his "negotiating" I would say is very true. The women seem to think he's great in their reviews, but they're creepy and unprofessional innuendos. He also tried to convince me it was better for the state to garnish my wages. I'm guessing he makes a percentage(unconfirmed). He stretched and wrung out every possible cent he could from me. I never felt as though he had my best interest. Janie his paralegal is extremely blunt with a sharp attitude. She makes you feel like you're some sort of troublesome chore. I wanted to fire him but then I would have to pay some other retainer fee. It was 14000 altogether. My wife spent 2500. She won. You tell me. Shop around this guy is not in it for you. Sorry for the long post hope this saves some of you other dudes my experience
