Just got back from an excellent 3.5 day retreat at Butter and Egg Adventures…read more My husband and I brought 25 students, plus our two kids down to Troy. While the website was impressive, we had no idea the treat we were in for! The staff is warm and welcoming. The camp is family run, and it is obvious that the rest of the staff are included in that warmth. Our students had a blast on the zip lines and ropes courses, and grew together as a group through the facilitated team building activities. As a director of Residential Life it was incredibly heart warming watching the students open up to each other and work together in a new way. Honestly, I really can't say enough good things. Even though my husband and I were the only chaperones of 25 teens (with our two kids), we felt relaxed the entire time. Because of the staff's collaboration with us, we knew the students were taken care of. It made the entire adventure a relaxing experience - which, believe me, is a huge feat. While there were threats of a storm (which never happened) we felt perfectly safe with the camp's procedures. Any of our group's random complications were handled with grace and support. You can really tell the thought and care that Susan, Ron, Natalie, and the rest of the crew put into the entire experience. Very nice, clean, quiet and serene, beautiful any way you look at it. A great plus, restrooms, showers, laundry, hookups (electric and water), cement pads for RV's, tables, fire-pits, grills, docks, boat launches, tent spaces and more. Gotta come check it out if you haven't been here. I give this a 4 1/2 star because no sewer hookups. It's a hassle to hook up your Trailer and take it to the dump-station. So, I guess it gets a 5 star.

I believe we got the best tent site they offered. It was further back from the road and more part of the rest of the park area and it was very well shaded most of the day. I loved the camp sink with running water. I wish more places (KOA's too) did that. Being a tent camper, that amenity was probably my favorite, above all. The bathrooms were wonderful. Clean and fresh smelling every time I used either one. I didn't use the laundry room but it looked tidy and clean as well. The kids enjoyed the pool and grounds. I know the owner said people complain about the ants and bugs. They must not be real campers. Ants probably lived there 1000 years before you decided to moore up in your $400000 land yacht. The bugs weren't a big deal and I wouldn't blame the KOA if they were. Keep your gear clean , be vigilant, and you will do fine. I know KOA can't choose their neighbors, either. Although I'm sure the guy on the other side of the fence was a real stand up guy, you would never know it from him blaring his music at 0630 on a Saturday, hawking loogies, working on his super sweet dodge caravan, or yelling "HEY" followed by a trail of obscenities to his dog/cat/squirrel/bird/momma/whatever. Now for the real (but not real enough to garner less than 4 stars) issues. I nearly killed myself a dozen times by tripping over roots or small stumps on our site. I caught myself doing a header into my camp stove and doing the Alabama fire dance around the fire ring (and I don't drink that much) because of catching a toe on one. Every person in our party tripped over 3 or 4 of them on multiple occasions, just in our site. The staff were friendly. For the most part. Maybe even overly nice. When we checked in, I just wanted to get to our site and set up. Instead I got a 30 minute oratory description on the ants and map and pool. It's outdoors- there's bugs. Your park isn't that big-I can see everything from this spot... including the pool. The other side of that coin was when I took the kids to the office to buy them ice cream. The woman who was working seemed really put off that I came in because it interrupted her sweeping. She was a little short but then became so flustered, she couldn't count my change back to me. But they sell cedar firewood, so there's that. I would stay there again, but I probably won't because we like to go to different places all over.

Luckily, we paid, and were then calling the phone number to get the code, when someone who was camping pulled up behind us and put the code in for us. The small road bridge leading from the main land to the island was a little scary for me. Good thing there wasn't a car coming the other way, or I would have freaked out even more. This land is wonderful. I could see the appeal to kayak, fish, or have a picnic here, or even camp here. We stopped at the bathrooms first, and they are clean and provide running water. On our drive to the town of Spectre, we ran into the goats. We were driving down the road and all of the goats were coming at us. We put the car in park and enjoyed the goats. One goat even jumped up on my door to say hello. They are fabulous and very friendly. When we exited the vehicle at the Spectre movie set, a super friendly goat was charging at me, I immediately went into the car and the goat approached my boyfriend. All the goat wanted was some pets. And that's what he got. They are like large dogs. There are swing benches around the lake and it is nice to sit and enjoy the scenery. Watch out for goat poop. That is the only bad thing. The goats keep the island well manicured and provide the best entertainment and are adorable.
