I am visiting from out of town and I was looking for a place to play golf. My brother in law plays here and suggested I try Deer Valley. I am so happy I did. I am a novice golfer and prefer playing solo. I usually came out around 2pm for the front 9 holes. Everything from the Pro shop to the starters to the other golfers was friendly and welcoming. For a public course it is well taken care of. I highly recommend especially because the front 9 is very forgiving with no sand traps and one small water hole. read more

Very nice well kept course. Fairways I would say are pretty open. There's elevation holes, water throughout some holes that you'll need to be strategic with some shot placements. Don't even bother with this place. Please do yourself a favor and read the bad reviews already posted here - these people nailed it. Tee boxes covered in divots and the rough is wildly unmaintained. Good luck finding a ball if you don't hit it in the fairway. That aside, the staff is rude and unhelpful. Worst of all is the owner himself. I've never met a more miserable and arrogant individual in my life. Manada is 15 minutes away, tucked into the beautiful fishing creek valley with well maintained grounds and a friendly, professional staff. If you talk to the owner at Deer Valley he'll even recommend you visit Manada instead too because "he doesn't want your business and you aren't welcome here." I too thought some of the prior reviews were exaggerated until my own experience. read more

Can you give negative stars? The start is a total disaster there are too many people one starter who is trying to herd cats. But I have a real problem as a woman in a "man sport" getting mansplained. Today's instance at Deer Valley was the worst I have ever had. While trying to decide if I could get around the other cart or needed to reverse he literally says to me "you just step on the peddle". Are you serious?? I realize he has no idea who I am but to mansplain the peddle???? My apologies for being female wanting to enjoy a sport I have played since age 7 with my family and now am teaching my family. My apologies for you over booking your course because you only care about money. Never coming back. Well because the initial mansplained insults weren't enough we had to come back to 10 for a second round of insults from the starter. The game is very slow as noted above with the crowded course. The foursome behind us complained to the starter that they can normally play this course in 3.5 hours. We are playing as a twosome, there is a foursome, twosome and another foursome in front of us, but clearly the twosome is the problem. Immediately following their complaints the starter turned to me and told me that we should be playing from the reds. This was NOT said to my husband, who just so we are clear, I can out drive most days. In fact NOTHING was said to my husband, only to me. The conclusion I draw is that you assume I am worse than him and I'm the reason for the hold up and you don't want to insult him. My husband would like to stay positive and assume your course isn't sexist, rude, and condescending. I'm having a very hard time with that especially after reading comments below. read more

This was a great day. Being in Hershey with my wife as she had to attend a 2 day conference. While she attended seminars. I had sometime, so I used Yelp and found this gem. It's a beautiful and challenging course. I read some complaints about the staff not being friendly. Well, they must of listened because the staff was just great. I showed up alone with no T time. They were so accommodating. They brought me to the 4th hole where I joined another couple and just played threw and finished on the 3rd. Every encounter I had with staff was very friendly. The course itself was in great condition. The greens were moderately fast. The rough was a little hard to find balls in partly because of the wet grass and glare. And also very thick. But if you don't hit the ball into the rough you won't have a problem. Unfortunately I seem to find the rough more than I find the fairways which were in great shape. All in all this was a great day and I will return anytime I'm back in Hershey for the day. And the chocolate is also good. read more

First, the course is pretty nice -- shorter, but there are some challenging holes for all golfers. The tee boxes, greens, and fairways were all in pretty good shape. The price is outstanding as well. On that note alone, if that were all that was to it, I would play it again. With all that said, the service was extremely unfriendly. I wouldn't say it's bad service, but as I paid for my round and bought a few drinks at the turn the staff in the pro shop didn't seem too interested. I felt as if I were interrupting them for some reason. The starter, though, was very friendly, and seemed to enjoy what he was doing. I think the pro shop staff could learn from him. Obviously you aren't paying for "friendliness", but that certainly goes a long way, in any type of business, especially the tough golf business. read more

Went to this course to have a nice afternoon and was so disappointed. Tee time was 4:00 paid for 18 holes golfing in a foursome. The sign said carts need to be returned half hour before sunset. June 21st is the longest day of daylight we expected to complete our 18 holes. At 7:30 was approached by an employee and told us to leave. We tried to ask him why and he became loud and rude. He began yelling these are not my rules not even allowing us to speak. We drove back to the clubhouse again he was rude. Contacted the owner today and he was not concerned he mentioned we don't return. Needless to say we will NOT return nor recommend this golf course. Bad experience and deserve to be treated like a human being nothing less. read more

Poorly maintained course. Sand traps have no sand. Water hazards are hazardous to even look at. Landscaping is wildly overgrown. Rangers will bother you the entire day, regardless of pace of play. Can only golf as fast as the group in front of you but the ranger will come harass you anyways. Customer service overall is pathetic. Extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. They don't stick to tee times. If I could give Deer Valley a rating of zero, I would! Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs! read more

The course is well-maintained and the price is right. The course is fairly challenging and the views are terrific. But, I gave them 4 stars because they are so rude every time I call for a tee time. I don't get it...this seems to be the only business in Central PA that gets annoyed by its customers. Overall, though, this is your best bet for a cheap round of golf in the area. read more

Uncourteous and unaccommodating staff. Owner is very rude and unaccommodating . Went to play a fast game of golf and they would only let you golf in a group of four. Was shouted at by the owner "get out, we don't want you here anyway", who then continued to try to ridicule me because I was not willing to change my reservation. No refund of pre booked tee time was offered or given back. If you want to play solo, have your own cart or even a faster paced game of golf and be treated respectfully do not dare to go to this course! You probably will not receive any of the above! Nowhere on their website does it state that they will group you with strangers in their policies! The people here do not know how to operate a business! read more

This course had very few positives to it. The service was rude and irritable. The price did not match up with the quality of course we then played through. We had a few newer players to the game and the starter along with the rangers insulted them by suggesting they should drive from the women's tee. The tee boxes were full of unfilled divots and it was difficult to tell where the fairway started and the rough ended. The course was uninteresting and was not worth the price that we paid. While we kept up easily with the speed of play, the rangers still hounded us and insisted that we were not achieving their standards for play. Personally I believe that there are courses elsewhere that would be money better spent. read more

A group of 12 of us played here on 7/20/19. The staff was courteous and professional, the price to play is competitive. Overall the course was in good condition, the rough is thick and a bit high, making it challenging to find any ball not in the fairway. The only issue we all agreed upon was that the greens were "incredibly" slow. I asked one of the staff if the greens had been cut, he stated they had been cut but not low due to the high temperatures. Have spoken with a number of people who have played this course within the last 4-6 weeks and they all had the same opinion we did. Course in nice condition, greens incredibly slow, which takes quite a bit of the enjoyment out of the game when you have to play on such slow greens. read more

Do not miss this gem if you're in the Hershey area. Came for a concert, and got a rainy day tee time. Wide open fairways and large( well maintained) greens. Just blew me away at how nice a course this is for 27$. I've played resort courses that weren't this nice. Beautiful course. read more

Great corse for the price. Inexpensive and is well taken care of. The green are kind of beat up in some places.
