I grew up watching legends like Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus on TV with my grandpop. Having already worked with two different instructors as an adult, I was really just looking for a refresher to get back on track. I decided to try Dolphin Highlands Golf Course. Unfortunately, I missed my first appointment, but the staff was great about it and gave me some free range balls to make up for it. However, the environment was a bit distracting--it was hard to understand how people focus there with planes from the Middletown Airport flying overhead the entire time. When I finally made it to my second lesson, I met my coach 1-on-1. Tim is highly knowledgeable, clearly knows his stuff, and has been in the game for a long time. That said, during our session, he focused heavily on how PGA legends hit the ball, constantly referencing players like Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, and Arnold Palmer. Personally, I prefer a coach who assesses my natural swing and makes minor adjustments from there, rather than trying to completely restructure my form to copy someone else. After all, I am unique--complete with a beautiful face and bronze skin! I believe in playing my own way. Honestly, people should try hitting the way I do, because I can drive the ball incredibly far, especially for an amateur. While I still recommend him as a coach because of his expertise, he just wasn't the right fit for my personal goals. Everyone is different, and that's the beauty of being human; we all have the freedom to grow and make our own choices here in the US. I have played at all of the courses in our area and beyond. I've never been turned away because of cargo shorts. And they also told my friend that he has to tuck in his shirt. I always practice good golf etiquette. This was disappointing. I personally willing to pay $100 for a round of golf should not be turned away because of having pockets on the side of their shorts. Let's start with the bad first, this place is in dire need of some new turf, some of the holes just have the concrete pained green. This place also need a nice fresh coat of paint, everything has that slightly worn look to it. The other bad thing is all the holes have a slightly raised lip, making all the holes harder than they need to be. The good things about this course is that it is cheap, only $5 per adult, and $4 per child is a steal. The other good thing about this place is the classic old school feel of this place. It is a very retro course, lots of fiberglass animals, small buildings and things like that, the only thing it was missing was the windmill. It's mini golf that I grew up with. It is also very fun for what it is, this is one of the funner mini golf courses that I played. They also have a shaved ice and ice cream stand here, they have more flavors of shaved than I ever knew existed. The ice cream is pretty cheap and they are very generous with the portions they give. Overall if you want to play some cheap mini golf and go in with the proper expectations this is a good time. Just don't expect a perfect modern course.

Anyways, I was there for a fundraiser so I set up my table and began to do my thing... after my thing was done, I got a little of the County Club treatment as I sat down to lunch in the club room and dined on some of the club kwizine. That's the fancy french way to spell it right? A fresh salad lightly dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. Full of ridiculously fresh lettuces. It was all the salad truly needed ( and had) cause the lettuce was so freakin' good. I could definitely detect some little gem and butter lettuce in the mix. There was a choice of hamburger or chicken. The chicken was in a light broth of old bay, bbq sauce, and something else which is escaping me. The chef behind the table cut the little knobby bone ( the bone that connects the breast with the wing) off of the breast after I picked it from the chafing dish... begging the question... why did they leave that on? But I think it oddly made some sort of weird difference. Well, whatever they did, the chicken was super tender and flavorful and the buns they had were crucially delicious. It was a spectacularly simple and delicious meal. I loved it. Everyone at the country club was extremely pleasant and attentive. Servers made sure that I had enough to drink and cleared my plate away quickly. The worst part of my experience was leaving the country club, as I know that I am very unlikely to back anytime soon. Creeks and ditches in my driving range off the tee on many holes. Tight fairways...here comes the trees. You will have to think about what club to use or you will be in one of the many ditches or out of bounds. It's tight on some holes. My friends I golf with did not particularly like the course because it was hard. Higher handicaps on this course are going to get higher. Staff is very friendly. Discount for seniors and military. Plenty of parking. Expect to pay in the upper $50's for regular rate. We had a nice time. Have fun!
