It's hard to explain or describe how damaging it was to my dental health to be seen by Dr. DeFay. I'll do my best to keep a very long and painful experience short and to the point: I had expressed interest in Invisalign braces based on advertisements. After consultation, he advised the process would be difficult, but doable, and that elastics were needed to move my teeth over to where they should be. I agreed to go ahead with the process based on his professional opinion. After one year of ortho treatment, during a routine cleaning, my personal dentist (only a day after a visit w/ DeFay) sounded an alarm: my teeth were extremely loose--some even in danger of being lost w/o immediate treatment. Soon after, I halted ortho treatment, found a periodontist, and ended my connection with DeFay. I sought two other orthodontists for opinions--both well-respected dental professionals. Both concurred: I should never have been in Invisalign braces to begin with; that there was no way I could've possibly achieved the desired results wearing them. It was a profound shock and I was deeply upset knowing I went through all that pain and expense for nothing. Then before another orthodontist would even consider taking my case, I had to see an periodontist for a year afterward just to get my teeth stabilized to a point where they could be safely worked on again. LET ME BE CLEAR; these other dental professional's opinions were unequivocal--they weren't vague or half-hearted: there was zero chance the treatment Dr. DeFay performed would have produced a successful outcome. On top of that, I had advised Dr. DeFay (before starting treatment) that the custom urethane "balls" (I don't know the technical term) implanted in my molars were specifically placed there to correct my TMJ issue, and they also kept my back teeth aligned. DeFay took those out for some reason. I should've protested at that moment, but I trusted him as a professional to do the right thing. That was a mistake; now my TMJ is back, and I'm going to have to find someone locally who can fix the issue that had been solved long ago. I addressed all of this with DeFay, and only asked for a refund of services, but I received letters back from him stating, "It was my (meaning my) choice to do Invisalign treatment." True enough. But I never would've made the choice to do Invisalign had a dental professional told me it would never do what it was supposed to do--as Dr. DeFay should've said from the beginning, as other dental professionals have said after reviewing the aftermath of DeFay's work. I cannot stress how disappointed I am with Dr. DeFay, and I cannot give a score less than 1 star, otherwise I would. I felt I was being extremely fair in asking only for the monies back for services rendered; at least I could've used the money to get what I initially paid for from another orthodontist. However, I'll settle for knowing this note may prevent other people from making the mistake I did and not seek treatment from him. read more

Today was an excellent day at Defay. Have one child getting braces off and another getting a bracket out back on for his new braces. Happy day for both, of them surprisingly. I'm happy because my monthly bill is going down. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. They do a good job estimating cost and dealing with the insurance stuff. We like Defay. They move around, some days in Kaysville office, other days at other offices. read more

Dr. Defay made the process go very smoothly. His staff is friendly and know how to get things done effectively and efficiently. I would typically be in and out quickly during the appointment. It's hard to explain just how wonderful it is to actually smile with my teeth again. Dr. Defay and his team are absolutely amazing! From the time I went in for my consultation to finishing up, it was nothing but incredible service. I never felt rushed in any of my appointments, was treated more than fair, and had the best experience. He hires the best! About 2 weeks after I started my treatments my husband got transfer for work to SF. I found a new ortho out here but that experience was nothing compared to Defay. They tried to make me pay an additional $2K and made me come in every 3 weeks with additional charges for each visit, which were no joke 5 minute visits. Not to mention how I never actually saw the main Dr. It was ridiculous. So much so, I decided to come back to Defay and make the commute from SF to SLC - DEFAY IS WORTH IT!!!!! It was night and day difference!!!! Dr. Defay worked with me and my crazy flying in and out schedule and was just pure amazing. I really can't say enough wonderful things. I never write reviews but he and his team are beyond worth it. Look no further, seriously. You will be blown away! When I came for my consultation I felt like I was being treated less than I deserve, and until the sales pitch at the very end, I didn't even feel like I was really wanted there. Both of the girls I interacted with were extremely rude and the man who came in at the very end had a very condescending tone. I also feel the price I was told was higher than it should have been because they required me to give them my insurance info in advance so they knew how much would be covered. I don't think that is very ethical. So I will be taking my business elsewhere, which is unfortunate because I actually live very close and the location would have been convenient. But they STILL keep contacting me, phone calls, text messages, postcards in my mailbox. Don't go here. read more

They all Rock. I have been going to them for appointments and adjustments since July. Since then there service has always been 100%. They always friendly and outgoing they care deeply for their patents. They are GREAT. I have been very impressed with the professionalism and quality of work at Defay Orthodontics. The office staff is very friendly and helpful, and they have great incentives for kids to learn how to be on time and take care of their teeth and braces. Every time we have been there they have been on time and the schedule flows smoothly. When I need to bring in younger siblings, there is a small toy area in a nook of the waiting area that is clean, inviting and fun for small children. The cost is reasonable, and the service and quality of work is fantastic! read more

Well, with my teeth I'm happy with the results. I don't think that the service could have been nicer. Out of 10 stars I would have to give 9 stars only because of the cavities I had, but I really just believe it was a user error. I'm so glad that I have straight teeth now, and I hope the stay straight for as long as possible. I really enjoyed coming here and the wonderful service that the staff provided.
