I've never had a cavity, so when I went to Summit Dental and they told me I suddenly had 4 or 5, I decided to see another dentist there six months later. He added a 6th to the list. I decided to go back to a dentist I had previously been a patient of. I didn't mention my time at Summit. He told me I had no cavities. He also charged me half of what Summit charged for a fluoride treatment. In addition, Summit spent entirely too much time trying to talk me into braces. It felt a whole lot like they were trying to upsell me more than just take care of my teeth. I was not impressed. I will never go back. Looks like I'm not alone based on the other reviews here. Even one star is far too generous for this place. Years ago my family and I were in need of a new family dentist. We'd received more fliers for Summit Dental than we could count in the mail, so we decided to schedule an appointment. I had recently given birth to a new baby. After my exam, the dentist informed me that I had 7 cavities (I can't remember who it was). Fortunately, I decided to seek out a second opinion. My new dentist told me I didn't have any cavities at all. I was furious that the dentists at Summit purposely LIED to me in order to try and receive money from us when there was clearly nothing wrong with my teeth. If you enjoy wasting your money, this is the dentist/orthodontist place for you. If you desire someone to be honest with you in regards to your oral health, avoid this place like the plague. read more

Summit Dental made me feel very well taken care of and that my health was their utmost goal. When you find a dentist that really cares about YOU, and not just their bottom line, it shows! It shows in how they treat their patients in every aspect of the business. I appreciated the friendly service from ALL of the staff, the kind expert dentists, and the super comfy dental chair. (I didn't know I even cared about the chair until I felt this one!) Dr. Hadley made me feel at ease and did an excellent job on my same-day crown and two small fillings. I will never go anywhere else and I highly recommend them to everyone! My husband is also getting braces from them and Dr. Metcalf is one of the best! He and his whole staff are kind and considerate and always happy to see him when he gets there. Wish I could give a negative star rating because this office is a joke. They pick and choose how they treat their patience and it's clear with the amount of disrespect I received today (A girl my age came in right before me and was treated kindly and respectfully). They don't care about actually supporting your teeth in the long run because they will just fill them until you need them removed or covered. They say their saving your teeth by doing this but they truly just want your money. I already have anxiety with doctors and dentist's when my "doctor" today heard that, he continued to give me the worst case scenario and not be helpful with solutions whatsoever. The "doctor" today also told me I must have a bad diet and bad genes. When the literal reason my teeth are having issues is because THEY HAVE FILLED THEM TOO MUCH. I should be able to sue. I brush and floss every day multiple times a day and as a 17 year old alone at this appointment they took advantage of that, targeted my fears, and all of it was jarring to hear. read more

Everytime I visit, Summit always exceeds my expectations. Had my first crown and it was the best possible experience I could have getting a crown done. PAIN FREE, fast, efficient, no waiting around, and both the doctor and the assistant were excellent. Top of the line equipment (got my entire crown made and put on in the same visit!) Just looked at my crown in the mirror and it looks like a brand new perfect tooth! Made me feel comfortable for an experience that would otherwise give me major anxiety!! I love Summit!!! read more

Wish I could give a negative star rating. Absolutely horrible dentist office. They have treated my spouse with such rudeness and disrespect in his care, that we opted to move to a different dentist. Let me start by saying every single time we did go to this office, we asked if we had an outstanding balance, due to multiple billing issues we'd had with them. When I notified the office that I was canceling my upcoming appointment due to the way they treated my spouse, they never responded. They did, however, send me a statement with a balance outstanding that was OVER A YEAR OLD, and had immediately gone to 90+ days past due. I HAD NEVER RECEIVED A STATMENT FROM THEM PRIOR TO THIS, EVER. I had asked every single time I went into their office if I had a balance, and the answer was no. Now that we are leaving, suddenly I owe them over $700? Disgusting, despicable, dishonest, infuriating "service" that will now have me taking time off work to go into their office to let them know I will NOT be paying a bill that cropped up out of NOWHERE because our family was done with their constant billing issues and the treatment received in their office. FIND A DIFFERENT DENTIST, COULD NOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HOW POORLY THEY CONDUCT BUSINESS, AND GOOD LUCK WITH BILLING - IT'S A JOKE. read more

This place isn't honest when it comes to billing. They will bill your insurance company for the covered amount and you pay the rest up front, which is normal. But a later they will claim your insurance didn't pay and send you to collections even when you have proof they paid. They also will tell you you insurance doesn't cover something and charge you for it and then turn around and bill your insurance for the covered care they told you wasn't covered. The people and care there is good but their billing is dishonest as hell. If you go there watch your bills and document everything very well. You will need it in a year. read more

Surprised with $133 exam and xray fee because I wanted them to check a tooth that was repaired by them in October! Even though I had the 3 year bite on a rock guarantee. IOh my heck the dental side of this place is ridiculous! I've been going to this place for almost 10 years. The last 2 or so have been horrendous. I'm surprised with extra charges every time I come in. I had a fractured tooth repaired last Oct. I've been having sensitivity in the area for about a month so I wanted to get it checked to make sure the repaired tooth wasn't having a problem. Especially since I have the 3 year bite on a rock guarantee. I told them I just wanted the repaired tooth checked to make sure I didn't have any problems with the repair. They said they needed some X-rays. I asked how much the xrays would be. They said $33 but it would help determine if there was a problem with the tooth. I agreed to the charges. After the dentist examined the area he determined it was the tooth right behind the one that had been repaired. Then when I got up to the receptionist I was surprised with about a $133 bill. They let me talk to the manager there and she determined that since it wasn't the tooth they repaired I would have to pay the exam fee. Terrible business! Wow so if it had been the repaired tooth I wouldn't have had to pay an exam fee. All I wanted was the repaired tooth examined to see if it had a problem. I'm due for a cleaning and exam which I plan to do this month. I didn't even have a full dental exam at this visit but was charged as if I did. The dentist looked at my teeth and blew air in the area of the repair and sensitivity. All because I wanted them to double check the work they did and make sure it didn't have a problem. Nobody notified me that I was being charged for a full exam until I went to leave. read more

I can't rate them lower or I would. I have been going for here for years and they started this new policy recently to charge you if you don't cancel within two days of your appt. So if your sick on the day of appt - you pay $50. They won't make exceptions. So when, I had to travel out of state for a major family emergency, I called as soon as things settled down to cancel my daughters appointments. They didn't care about my situation but rather insisted that I was charged $100 for having to miss their appointments. I can't believe how little they care about the patients and their situations. I had started going to summit dental when I realized I needed a tooth implant. At my prior dentist 6 months prior I had only had one cavity. The one cleaning I got at summit dental in Layton they came back saying I have 11 cavities and I needed two crowns done. I didn't believe that as it us only been 6 months since my last cleaning with only one cavity that I had gotten filled. I wanted another opinion and I went to another dentist and they told me I didn't have any cavities. So I'm not sure if they just wanted to make money off of me and my insurance or what... but that's not okay. I was contacted by the General Manager at Summit Dental a couple of weeks ago after she came across my initial review I posted here back in April 2024. We were able to work something out to my satisfaction. Although they are still far more expensive than Layton Hills Dental Care, which I went to for my other son just a few months prior (I have twins), I appreciate the willingness to try and make things right. Hopefully, going forward, Summit's consultation appointment will be a lot more transparent about the upfront costs as I would have never chosen to go with them as they are around 5 times the cost of Layton Hills Dental Care, which I used for an equal amount of wisdom teeth extraction of 4. Layton Hills Dental Care only cost me out of pocket $165 after the insurance was paid, and they didn't make me pay this cost upfront. Summit Dental, however, for all 4 wisdom teeth, was $899 (and could have been more, but this was their "bundle deal"). Also, keep in mind that my insurance was in-network for both places. Summit Dental charged for a lot of extra things that Layton Hills Dental Care did not. Bottom line: There are a lot of options out there, so make sure you explore the costs at other places before you decide who to go with. read more

One star is TOO MUCH of rating for this place.They are the WORSE! I had two crowns on my front teeth that looked gray after a month or so. I went back to the office and told them about it, so they changed it and put a new set that ALSO TURNED GRAY! They are suppose to be professionals (they charge like it) but when I asked Dr Theurer why my teeth are turning gray, he said he wasn't sure.....EXCUSE ME! not sure?, isn't he a professional, what kind of dentist is he then? I have been dealing with them since the beginning of the year but they don't want to fix the BAD job they did! They are just giving me the run around. I have also had multiple bad experience with this dental clinic. Initially we went in for cleaning and a whitening promo, service was alright. Teeth molds didnt turn out right and they were not very interested in making another mold. If the promo is offered free it should not be provided with discounted service or attention to detail. when all was said and done we received in accurate billing, they had tried to bill for a service that was no provided. that was all resolved and account balance $0 beginning of 2022. fast forward to now, over a year later and I'm being told I owe cancellation fees for appointment dates 8 months ago. no prior communication about the appointment, balance etc. when the last issue was resolved all appointments were cancelled, after all I didn't want the billing issues round two. yet here we are again... waiting for the manager or billing department to call back and have the balance corrected. not acceptable service or customer service on their part. If you do choose this location please be aware of the billing and any other miscellaneous fees that might appear on your statement. So I had a ton of fillings done here as I grind my teeth so I'm always getting cavities. Everything filling and check up wise that I had before went great, until we got to making me a mouth guard bit. The lady I could tell hadn't done it often, she got the stuff they use to make the mold all over me. They ended up ripping out my lip piercing with the mold, it was interesting. There was lots of blood from it and the ring went clean through. If I had known it would have been an issue I would have taken it out, luckily I didn't feel anything because the numbing. You can't be that mad because I'm sure they've never had someone with one before. I'm just posting this as sort of a beware. They did a great job on specifically my front tooth that I had chipped and needed fixed though! read more

This business in my option is the worst Dentistry office I have ever been too. In my option the office manager and the owners have unscrupulous business practices. The pain and infections and swelling my wife had, was not normal and was treated very rude and not customer service friendly caring treatment by the manager and the owners in my option. Love this clinic. Everyone including the dentist and staff are so professional and knowledgeable. I never wait long and have had a wonderful experience with both the orthodontic and dental side. When I developed a dry socket after getting my wisdom teeth out they got me in right away and helped with the pain. The clinic is lovely, clean and feels like a spa. Their 'work' is OK. But the major shareholder of Summit Dental in Layton, UT, Dr Scott, is 'ruthless' (as in "having or showing no pity or compassion for others". I almost died in 2017 from 2 infections (not related to the dental service I got in Feb & March 2017). And after almost dying (having a toe amputated), I barely got out without losing my other foot to an amputation, also! We fully believed we had health insurance still in force when we went to Summit Dental then. My wife had been on disability from her job for over a year. Our health insurance provider even paid $45.00, & this, after (having rec'd Summit Dental's service in those months), though we were notified by mail from our insurance company that our health care benefits had been terminated the end of January (this notice wasn't sent or received until after my last dental visit with them in March). Shortly after we got this news, I took what I thought was going to be a part-time job (it was full time) to try to pay for this bill. But I got 2 infections in my feet (Staph & Class B Strep) & almost died. I had 1 toe amputated & nearly my other foot. The following months were followed with a # of surgeries, convalescence, home care & less $, because I couldn't work. My wife found a new job. But it paid the lesser part of our bills. Friends & family donated $ to us. But it only helped to keep us from losing our home & covering a small portion of our bills. In Nov.,the crown put on top the titanium implant Dr. Scott had replaced in Feb. & had put the crown on in March, fell off. So, I called to schedule an appointment to try to get it reglued. I knew we owed money still, & I had found a new source of income to help me pay Summit Dental at least $100/mo. So, I told the receptionist my proposal to do so til my balance was paid in full. She called me back, & said the office mgr had approval to do it. But when I showed up for my appointment a day or 2 later, I was told my offer was rejected. They wanted payment in full. So, I asked to speak with the finance mgr, Fiona. In her office, Fiona told me they could only do that with a credit card on file. I told her because my credit cards were completely maxed, there would be no credit line left, if I didn't make pmts as promised. But, I told her, I could & would make them. I told her about a loan on a van years before from a credit union, when it looked like I wouldn't be able to make pmts. But I did & paid it off. She then acted like she would accept my proposal. She asked, were you going to make a pmt today? I said, yes, I brought a $100 bill to pay, as promised. She took the pmt (which I viewed the same as a handshake, closing the deal). She then stood up & said, "I'll be back in a few minutes." So, I sat in her office & waited. When she came back, with the female office mgr with her, she told me they wouldn't accept my proposal. Twice, they had done this to me, in just days! So, I asked for my $100 back. Fiona said she wouldn't give it to me. Dr Scott then came & told me not to "threaten his girls" (which I didn't) other than to withdraw my business w/them. He said he would reglue the crown for free, tho I offered to pay for it w/an HSA card from a new health insurer from my wife's new job. But he refused. (But he still billed me for this 'free' reglue). Turned it over to Bonneville Collections. They took me to court. We had a deal with them, to get info on the implant they had ordered in for me (in case it breaks & comes out again--it's not 1 currently used, otherwise). But they told their lawyers they "couldn't find it" (the info we asked for). So, they reneged on our agreement, & took us to court again to force us to pay them without giving us that info (businesses are required to keep such documents-- invoices, receipts, copies of checks they pay with, credit card stmts, etc, for tax purposes for 7 years). But, magically, if you never look, you never find! (They claim they lost it). The judge asked why I believed Summit Dental couldn't find it. (What does a lawyer, the judge, who has never worked in the real world know about business)? Nothing. But you can't tell him he's a dimwit to his face, in court, without reprisal. Summit Dental lied & claimed I provided the titanium implant. The only one I did was the broken one that fell from the hole it was put in, in my mouth. That is not the one they told me they put back in my mouth & charged me for. Summit Dental's new bldg is new & nice. The waiting area is spacious. There's a place for kids to play. But the majority owner of the business mostly seems to care for $, & actually not so much for people. Sure he wants to be paid. He probably will not receive all of our pmts any sooner than had he allowed us direct pmt, without adding to how much we now have to pay (collection & attorney fees). He, IMO, wanted mostly to punish me. Like I said, I find him to be ruthless, without compassion. He wants cash & cares for little else. read more

Very efficient, attentive, polite and experienced. My mom only speaks Spanish and they were very accommodating, the doctor and hygienist both spoke Spanish and made her feel comfortable. High tech and fancy toys makes the experience of going to the dentist more tolerable than it usually is. Had a crown made, same visit under 2 hours! Fit perfectly and it was beautifully made. Great experience! I've been twice now. Once for my cleaning and exam; then once for fillings and my first crown. I was happy with all the staff I encountered; from the front desk to the dentist (Dr. Rush). They seem to be very up to date with their technology. All kinds of fancy toys, making them more efficient and thorough. You can watch a movie while they work on you for a helpful distraction. My hygienist (Brittney) was excellent in all aspects. Dr. Rush did an awesome job. I felt confident in his work and he did a perfect job numbing me and making sure I stayed numb throughout the multiple parts of my procedure. I also really appreciated him explaining everything to me. My whole dental procedure went faster than I anticipated-Quite a plus! I will feel comfortable going here for future visits. read more

I have always been so terrified of the dentist because I've needed to have allot of work done over my lifetime, but after coming to summit Dental I can honestly say that I enjoy coming to the dentist because they not only remember my face but they remember my kids and my husband! It's a very family friendly place with their new building with an awesome playhouse inside the front lobby for the kids to play in! I really have to thank Summit Dental for changing my life with a whole smile makeover! I can now smile with confidence and now I'm able to really appreciate the little things in life and not having any tooth pain every single day of my life (or as it seemed like to me)! We always went to Dr. Hadley. He was always great and worked with us, still believe he is a great person. His old office had a nice charm to it with friendly staff. After a rude comment from a receptionist at Summit about our payment plan, done with them. Paid them off today and will never go back. Things have gotten better for us after a move and at a new dental clinic. Always pay bill in full on the spot now, no payments. I have never met a dentist like Dr. Mcafee that cares about the comfort of his patients more than this guy. They are well-priced and soooo nice! They have tv's and are liberal with the nitrous which is very helpful for those of us with anxiety. Love this place and will never go anywhere else! Dr mcafee even stayed late one night to fit me in and fix my toothache. I went there for a 6 month check up, Summit told me I had 2 root canals. I went to another dentist to get a second opinion and third and both other dentist confirmed it was only a couple cavities. Never going back to summit, I would recommend getting a second opinion if they tell you to get root canals. read more
