I recently started training sessions for my 4 year old rescue dog Blue. She is a highly eneregetic,…read morepeople friendly dog; a pit bull hound mix. The biggest challenges were that she does not get along with other dogs and needed to be socialized and trained on basic commands. Several of my neighbors recommended Hope Lock and I am so happy that we are in training there. We first completed private lessons with Wayne. Within a matter of minutes, he helped transform Blue's behavior, and my ability to handle her more effectively. Not only did he help socialize her with other dogs, he taught us some basic commands and obedience, while being very supportive and complimentary of our progress. We then started Basic Training wth Missy a few weeks ago, along with 11 other dogs and handlers. I am so pleased with how well Blue is doing, and so thankful we had the private lessons first. Missy is also a fantastic trainer, I was amazed at how quickly she got the group in order, 12 dogs of all shapes and sizes, and not all well behaved yet. We rescued our Catahoula Girl, Charlie, 2 years ago. She is very sweet natured but she was becoming more and more reactive to people and dogs. She weighs 76 pounds and is very strong. I had to get a handle on this powerhouse or one of us was going to get seriously hurt! She was starting to lunge at rabbits, men in hats, certain dogs, delivery trucks and something had to be done to protect both our safety! We had done a treat/reward based program and it only worked during class. Out in my neighborhood, where the rubber meets the road (literally), Charlie was completely uninterested and unmotivated by treats. She was much more motivated by her nose and her instincts! I was working hard but she was becoming more and more unmanageable. The first night of class, my instructor asked me if I wanted to try a pronged collar. This sounded so harsh and maybe even dangerous, so I said that I would see how it goes. Well, after 15 minutes of struggling with Charlie's willful behavior, I was willing to give that bad boy a try! All I can say is GAME CHANGER! They fitted my hooligan for a pronged collar and taught me how to use it correctly, so that it imitates the correction a pup feels from its mother. She grabs her youngster with her teeth and applies pressure to the neck and then releases her grip. Suddenly, Charlie was paying attention to me and she has been improving her focus and self-control, ever since. We are still working on socialization, but the experience has been an extremely positive one for us. I will give you one caveat about the instructors at Hope Lock. You'd better be prepared to put in the work and that includes weekly homework. These classes are not for slackers!!!

If your dog is young, energetic, and still learning, as most adolescent dogs are, you should know exactly how this facility handled our situation. Our Labrador Retriever attended this daycare intermittently from 5 to 11 months of age. After one isolated incident in which he reacted poorly to another dog's correction due to trying to initiate play, the manager reassured us that this was not a serious behavioral issue, that he was simply still learning to respond to cues from other dogs, and that they were happy to continue working with him. We were never told he was on probation or given any deadline for improvement. Over the next three weeks, he attended only two additional visits. During one, he was injured. The staff present that day, as well as the manager in a follow-up call, all told us that he had done nothing wrong and it was through no fault of his own. During the next visit, I monitored the cameras and watched him be removed from group play within 15 minutes of arrival and brought out only three times for about 10 minutes each over more than five hours. When I asked why, the manager said he had done nothing wrong but they were "trying to get ahead of the problem." In other words, they had already labeled him as a problem before he had done anything wrong that day. Yet when he was eventually allowed to rejoin the group, we were told he played appropriately and without incident. This is what should concern prospective clients: we were explicitly told our dog could continue attending and that they would work with him, but instead he was quietly confined for most of the day without our knowledge. Had I not checked the cameras and called to ask what was happening, I have no reason to believe we would have been told. If a facility has already decided that your dog is too much work, they should communicate that honestly rather than continue accepting your dog and effectively sidelining them. After I raised my concerns, the owner informed me that he was no longer welcome. She then suggested that our dog was responsible for the earlier incident in which he was injured--directly contradicting her own staff and manager and attempting to make him seem like the problem even when those who witnessed the event said he was not at fault. Given that there had been no prior warning that dismissal was being considered, and that this decision came immediately after I questioned how he was being treated, the timing felt retaliatory rather than the result of a thoughtful behavioral assessment. When I told her that I intended to leave an honest review describing our negative experience, she became even more defensive and stated that she would fight it back. Unfortunately, after reading prior reviews describing similarly defensive and retaliatory behavior from ownership, this response did not appear to be an isolated incident. For additional context, prospective clients may wish to read the Yelp review from the Nazareth location dated July 17, 2019, which describes similar behavior from ownership. We also had broader concerns. We encountered 2 of their employees outside of daycare and overheard them saying that they feel overwhelmed and that there are too many dogs for the available staff. Our dog was injured more than once, and in one instance staff said they could not identify which dog caused the injury despite cameras throughout the facility. These issues raise serious concerns about staffing and supervision. We were also concerned by multiple episodes of kennel cough and giardia associated with the facility, and our veterinarian specifically warned us that they had seen numerous dogs become ill after attending this facility. To their credit, we were not charged for the day he spent largely confined. If your dog is a high energy dog or puppy who requires patience and continued development, this daycare may decide that your dog is too much work. In our experience, dogs who need extra attention may be blamed, confined, and dismissed rather than appropriately supported.

Overall I'd have to say that I cannot recommend this place enough.
