LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. And it's all because my dogs LOVE this place! I've been going there for years with multiple pets. (And all different types and energy levels too.). This is the most caring and detailed staff as well. We drive for nearly an hour out of Philly to get there and it's worth it. We've found that The dogs are well attended, they are broken into groups based on various factors like size, energy level, age etc. we call it "doggie camp"! Our dog stars getting excited as soon as we turn down the road. We've been to other places where our dogs are anxious about leaving us- when we get to Millpond, they can't get away from us fast enough! It's one of the only places we know of that still allow dogs to socialize while boarding. Additionally, we feel even better (if that's possible) that there is an entire veterinary hospital attached to the operation. Not sure why there are some bad reviews here. We had an emergency on vacation where our pup ingested some rat poison someone left at our Airbnb. We called Mill Pond as they were closest and they were completely unwilling to assist at all. On the phone I was directed to their website told to call back strung along throughout the morning and better part of the afternoon with a promise of having my pets boarded. I've been coming here for year now, so I feel I offer a very objective opinion, I had no information about this place before coming and have used Private Training, Daycare and One on One Training with the trainer and my dog. I find some of these reviews unbelievable, I think people are just way to entitled these days and that causes lots of issues. I have not once, had a bad experience here, not a single rude remark or anything other then a welcoming and professional experience with each and every person I've dealt with here no matter what department they were in. I can't RECOMMEND THEM MORE HIGHLY, I have a very unique and challenging dog who requires lots of patients and love and if these people were anything short of amazing, he wouldn't be progressing as he has. My dog was new to daycare, new to being able to play with dogs, previously he had been used as bait by horrible people. I first schedule training with Steve, the trainer, with my dog and him. Steve is the MOST INCREDIBLE TRAINER I've ever worked with and there have been a few. He's not only one of the calmest human beings I've ever met but insanely knowledgeable about dogs and their behavior as a trainer should be, but he takes it to new heights. He's worked with my guy since day one and the improvement is absolutely incredibly. Steve also runs daycare on certain days So this allowed him to make sure my guy would be socialized properly and had the right experience, it's taken a long time but my dog is finally learning to be a dog. Every person I've dealt with in daycare and there have been many, has taken the time to listen to me and my guy and what he needs, they've gone above and beyond to give him the best chance for success possible and it shows!. My dog has only ever been beat, used as a chew toy and treated in ways that only scars show, that I can't even imagine, He was scared of everyone he met and was so anxious he would throw up. Since day ONE he's loved Steve and the girls and guys in daycare, doesn't this SPEAK VOLUMES as to their character? I think it does. My dog absolutely adores these people and has trusted them from the moment he met them, he trusted not a single soul yet these wonderful, loving people have given him more then they realize. So, if your wondering if you should try Mill Pond, IPROMISE YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT, I CANNOT SAY WITH MORE CERTAINTY you will LOVE them. We all love Millpond! When we adopted our pup (Piggy) she had a lot of energy & we were told to give it a try by a friend. We were having some behavioral issues with her and I knew it was because she was a puppy & needed to exercise. BEST RECOMMENDATION EVER! She now goes there 3 times a week & as soon as we say the words "wanna go to camp?" she loses her mind & practically jumps out of our car when we pull in. She is so much better behaved & training her has been easier as well. Everyone there is polite & always pleasant & apparently Piggy has a few BFF's she plays with there. I saw a few reviews mentioning their dogs having a few "marks", Piggy has come home with a few bumps, bruises or scratches but lets be honest... puppy's play, and sometimes they play hard. It happens. We are always notified if anything happens & they are genuinely concerned every time. If you have a rambunctious pup like we do I highly recommend Millpond daycare! I just wanted to publicly thank the staff at Mill Pond Veterinary for helping us today. I won't go into detail; I'll just say they gave us a great deal of peace of mind, and made today far more hopeful than it would've otherwise been. They said "yes", when everyone else we contacted would only say they couldn't really help. Everyone but the wonderful person who referred us to Mill Pond. We've never taken either of our cats here, as we didn't know it existed until today. We've been going to a local veterinary office in the Upper Perkiomen Valley, and they're okay. Unfortunately this place has grown so large it has become impersonal and unresponsive. I have been a customer for over 8 years taking my dog there for vet service, daycare, boarding, grooming, you name it. Likely spent over $10,000 across the years. Some of the original team there is still good. However, this place has now grown to 3 doctors and you cannot even get a call back from a doctor when you have a major issue. It is a real problem. I brought my new puppy there on the day I picked her up. They diagnosed her with Giardia on thay Friday and gave her meds. The puppy had an allergic reaction to the meds which put her into a doggy hospital on Sunday (which Mill Pond does not provide). A $1000 and 3 weeks later on a Friday, the puppy came down with a UTI. Mill Pond prescribed the exact same meds and reassured me they could not have been the culprit of the prior reaction. Despite my questions, they told me that it would be fine. It wasn't. Massive diarrhea and vomiting ensued on Sunday. Luckily the puppy was 4 pounds heavier and could sustain better so she escaped another costly hospital visit. I called Mill Pond before they opened at 7:30 am that Monday following and requested a dr call me back, ideally the one that proscribed the meds as the puppy was suffering and I was greatly concerned. She was urinating every 15 minutes and clearly lethargic. Mill Pond ignored my request and had a nurse with absolutely no understanding of the situation call me around 11am to schedule yet another $100 vet visit that evening where they wanted to perform expensive procedures to extract urine directly from the puppy's bladder to test to see exactly what bacteria she had. We don't even do this to humans so why would I subject my tiny puppy to that? I wanted to simply talk to the doctor about this and the meds but no Doctor at Mill Pond could spare even 5 minutes to call me back. I was extremely frustrated by 4pm that afternoon after not receiving a call back from a doctor and watching my new puppy suffer all day. In my frustration, I told the nurse I felt the newly expanded practice was all about money and truly didn't give a "s _ _ _" about my dog. I wanted to talk with Dr Thayer. They told me she wouldn't talk and they had no appointments until 5pm the next day! Not only did Mill Pond not help my puppy but Joanne Thayer, nor any of the doctors there, even called me back. I took the puppy over to Quakertown Vet (the one who has an emergency hospital) and they saw her right away. The vet there spent 2 hours researching alternative foods and meds for my poor puppy. She is finally on the mend thanks to Quakertown. And after 8 years of loyal business to Mill Pond, all I get is a letter from them terminating service to my dogs because I dropped a cuss word on the phone without even a phone call to discuss the situation. Very nice Joanne. Luckily, I found a practice that cares and isn't just about expanding for money. Do yourself a favor and don't try Mill Pond as it has turned into a money hungry factory. I have never been here before and today was my first time. I was dropping off a dog for my friend whom is in the hospital and couldn't do it. As I walked in the front door reception area, the ladies there were very polite to me, as I didn't know where to go . Mind you, I had a very large, powerful and nervous dog with me. As I stood there for a minute, this door behind me swings open and this shrew of a woman says to me, are you boarding?? Because There's a sign right here on the door that tells you to go to the barn' ..... not a "can I help you or here, let me help you". She was extremely rude and ignorant from the start. I didn't ask for that, no one does, it was completely uncalled for. If you don't like your job lady, then you shouldn't be there. I needed help, not ignorance. You were very short with me too- here sign this- I'm sorry wtf am I signing ? I'm sorry if I took a moment to actually read what I was signing as you can tell you were in a hurry to do God knows what. As soon as I made my way out of the 'barn' I was waiting for someone to come and handle the dog and take him to where he needed to be. As I wait, I hear the dogs all barking uncontrollably and the attendants repeatedly yelling, Stop that! Uh well, if they didn't listen at the first STOP THAT , than I highly doubt they will listen at the 8th time you've yelled that. Effective. Regardless, I recommend a lot of people to you, I have heard some good things about you, after this experience I will never recommend you for boarding again and places like yours are the reason I will never ever have my babies boarded anywhere. This just appeared again in the Allentown Pa Morning Call. The authorities should shut this place down. They had previously misdiagnosed my dog & when I took her to my regular vet, she was cured. They have a poor staff with no knowledge - just because you think pets are cute doesn't give you license. They should shut this place down & turn it into an ice cream parlor. By Arlene Martínez | Of The Morning Call September 24, 2008 When Annie received multiple injections Feb. 28, 2005, her owners watched, crying even as they believed in their decision to put the sick dog to sleep. But the veterinarian performing the procedure, Jennifer Makem, was not euthanizing the German shepherd, as she told the dog's owners. So when Dana and Gary Ganyer left Mill Pond Veterinary Clinic in Milford Township 25 minutes later, Makem injected the dog once more, this time with a substance to reverse the effects of the sedatives she'd used during the fake procedure. For lying about her work, Makem has temporarily lost her license, according to Department of State officials. Makem told the state Board of Veterinary Medicine she believed she was only following orders from her boss and clinic owner Joanne Thayer. But in its May 29 ruling, the board said Makem should receive the suspension because she failed to adequately explore alternatives with the Ganyers before the procedure and because she went through with the deceptive operation. For three months Makem cannot practice; for another nine months she'll be on probation. She was also fined $1,000. The Ganyers, who lived in Milford Township at the time, sued the clinic and Makem in April 2006 after they found out through a clinic employee the dog was alive. Annie, who suffered from debilitating seizures, had been given to Philadelphia resident Gene Rizzo, who put the dog down in late 2005 after her condition worsened. Through their attorney Merry Guben, the couple said Tuesday they ''very much appreciate the Commonwealth's commitment to protecting the integrity of the profession and the rights of pet owners. Veterinarians that deceive their clients will suffer the consequences.'' Their case, in which the Ganyers seek compensatory and punitive damages, is still active, said Guben. I was unhappy with Q-town becoming too large for more personal care and attention fo my pets. I have been very happy with service at Mill pond. Very personable staff. Had one issue recently when they referred my wife to another vet for a pet that was injured. I was not happy with their incensitivity. Hopefully, this was an isolated incident. read more

I have tried several times with this practice. It is very poorly run. Never on time. My dog had an issue. I called they didn't call back. Eventually, I just took him over there. And when they saw him they said it seems pretty bad. They performed surgery on him of course at a higher price the the high price quoted. Had to go back for surgery again. Never really told me why I had to pay again. And now today they make me wait for 40 minutes in the room. No explanation, they just don't care.. So I just walked out. If you love your pets. Its high time people who know that Dr Thayer runs a great facility posted reviews to counteract postings about an incident that happened several years ago and was associated with a veterinarian who no longer works at Mill Pond. I have been using the doggie day care for several years now and have absolutely no complaints. It is a terrific facility where my dogs are well cared for by knowledgeable, caring and certified staff. Also, to say that there are no certified staff at Mill Pond is absolutely incorrect. Ryan is an excellent dog trainer who is fully certified and who runs the day care on a daily basis very professionallyt. Ryan, through Mill Pond, offers both group and individual training classes. I have used both and have had enjoyable and successful experiences. Please - if you are a patient of Dr Thayers or a customer of the day care, post some positive reviews here which highlight this great facility, knowledgeable staff and a vet who is experienced and caring. read more

I am a novice at dog kennels. I have had our German Shorthair Pointer puppy there two times. I then tried another kennel and that is when I got to see how marvelous Mill Pond is. When F comes home from Mill Pons he is tired and happy! I love the amount of play he gets in their facility that is connected to a quality vet. LOVE these folks! I drive from Philly all the way to Q-Town just to have my dogs board there. Great price, HUGE land to roam on and an awesome staff to boot. I had an older dog that originally had separation anxiety and was a mess boarding at other kennels. When she went to "Camp Millpond", she loved it! So much so, that when I came to pick her up, she ran out to see me, licked my face and then turned to run back out to the kennel! I took her there over the last 6 or so years and even as she got older and less mobile, they were able to meet her needs and show her a good & healthy time during each stay. Even when a medical issue (undetected from my own Philly vet) presented itself to their team- they were VERY quick to contact me during off hours and address her medical needs. The Vet staff was top notch, very caring and extremely accessible while we were away on vacation. We always received a "report card" upon pick up and my dog always came home happy and exhausted like a dog who had a good time. You can tell that all of the staff, handlers, nurses, Vets, etc really care for all of the animals there like they are their own and are quick to tell you any fun little story that may have developed while your pet was staying with them. Even though my dearly departed dog can no longer visit "Camp Millpond"- I am excited to take our new puppy there soon to have the same experiences my old friend did. Take your dog there!!!! We started bringing our pets to Mill Pond about 3 1/2 years ago after moving to the area. We did about a 6 month stint with Quakertown Veterinary but then transferred to Mill Pond as Quakertown was very impersonal. Our two dogs go to the doggie daycare there twice weekly for half days, they get boarded there when we are on vacation and Mill Pond is their regular vet as well as the vet for our two cats. They know our animals and us by name. They genuinely care about our pets. There services are much more affordable than that of Quakertown and we have never had any issues with them. The staff is friendly, courteous and caring. We would never take our pets anywhere else. I would recommend Mill Pond for boarding, doggie daycare and full vet services. read more

Mill Pond is beyond fantastic. My dog has had to come in many times for bowel issues, for one mast cell tumor removal, and also goes to daycare there. In each and every instance, my dog feels at home. Pretty much everyone there knows her name. The daycare folks always get her hyped up and having fun. We had boarded our labs there years ago, and now we have a staffordshire terrier. We use a harness with him, which we did not do with my other dogs. We boarded him at Mill pond over the weekend and pick him up to find he has sores where his harness is. after speaking with the kennel manager i was told they leave the harness on unless we take it off. so he wore a harness for 4 days, with sores, and NO ONE TOLD US THEY WOULD LEAVE IT ON OR CHECKED FOR SORES. They are also our vet, and they have just lost us as customers./ Not only did they defend themselves as if it were my fault for leaving the harness on, they offered a meek apology. I paid for my poor dog to be in discomfort for 4 days and no one batted an eye. do not board your dogs here. read more

NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!! Have been a customer for over a year. Needed to pick up my dog early from day care because of a small emergency. If I hadn't picked up my dog then she would have needed to stay overnight. I was told that pick up was between four and six and I was there around 3 o'clock. I explained to them that I had an emergency and needed to pick up the dog early. I could see over the fence the dog attendant being told I need an early pickup. This conversation took several minutes. I had to yell to them that I needed my dog because they were taking their sweet time. As I stood there waiting, an employee came out to tell me that if this ever happens again they would not give me my dog due to pick up being between four and six. At this point I can tell you that things got ugly as I wasn't going to take being spoken to like that. I'm the customer!! If you have an emergency they should absolutely understand but they are more worried about their 4 to 6 pick up rules. I was not asked about my emergency. No one showed any sympathy whatsoever about my situation. I will never go back there for day care or boarding and we will be taking our dog to a different veterinarian as well. I am a retired teacher and was always very stingy with my "A"'s, but Mill Pond deserves ann "A"! We have been taking our 3 cats and 4 dogs to them for about 6 years. Thay have served us with a puppy, a senior dog who had cancer and has since passed, a dog sick with pancratitis, 3 bouts of lyme disease and an adoption. Our dogs also go there for boarding when we are away and occasionally doggy day care. Their staff is most caring and conscientious. We never worry when our pets are in their care. Another big plus for us is that they don't order unnecessary expensive tests and procedures. Yes, we too were referred to another veterinarian (an oncologist). A good doctor knows his or her limits and will refer his patient to a specialist. read more

I just went to the website to see if I could check on what shots my dogs may be needing soon and to attempt to make an on line payment. First, I read the two reviews that are posted and find that IMO both are unfair. I have been dealing with Mill Pond Vets and Dr. Thayer for the last 11 years since Fall 2002. I have gone through a German Shepherd named Zeus, three Golden Retrievers since pups (two male, one female) named Winston Churchill, Honey Zoey and Harley MacWinston AND 4 or 5 litters of Goldie Puppies totaling about 32 over the years. Not only have I used their Veterinary Service, but their K-9 training and doggie day care as well! I have always found the staff to be compassionate toward both animals and owners. In June 2012, I noticed my German Shepherd had become a bit lethargic and had developed a cough. Dr. Thayer was not available but a new Vet was. After dealing one on one with Dr. Thayer for years, I was a little apprehensive at first about dealing with someone new. This young man came into the exam room, (sorry, can not remember his name) and examined Zeus. At first, they could not diagnose what was wrong, so the Doctor recommended an X ray. When he came back, the news was terrible. My dog had developed a huge mass in his lungs. He explained that there was nothing we could do and gave Zeus a few days or a week at best. Since he was still eating, going out in my exercise yard, moving around okay and his ears still perked up if I asked if he wanted to go out. I decided to wait putting him down. The doctor was extremely professional and compassionate during this entire visit and allowed me to stay in the exam room for as long as I needed. I took Zeus home that morning and sat with him for most of the day and night. He passed the following morning on his own terms. Mill Pond is not a trauma center like perhaps U of P or Temple Vet schools. If you ever have an emergency that requires immediate aid, if they think it would be better to take your pet to another vet, they will say so and perhaps in a most direct way. This is not a cop out, they only want what is best for your pet ! Mill Pond has always been fair in their fees and realize that unexpected pet care can be expensive, so they are always willing to work with most customers. I am sure that there are a lot of good vets in the Upper Bucks County area some are even closer than Mill Pond. But as long as the good Lord allows me to have pets, I will always take them there. I have used Mill Pond for more than 10 years. Dr. Thayer has always been compassionate and caring. She has always known when a situation was above her expertise and has referred to a more specialized vet. I remember one time calling the emergency number and leaving a message. When she called me back I could barely understand her, she was sick with the flu but knew I needed her help. Her first concern has always, always been her patients. As for the article that has been posted from the Morning Call, be careful what believe about everything you read. We live in a society that doesn't always put the emphasis on the facts but on the shock factor. I know of this situation that is referenced. If you value your relationship with your vet, you call and ask them point blank about your concerns. I heard that Dr. Thayer had to stop practicing for a bit, but instead of feeding into gossip, I call the office and asked them point blank for an explanation. After all, if I am taking a memeber of my family to a doctor, I want to be sure of the integrity of the practice. Did Dr. Thayer make a mistake in judgement? Maybe, but that is not for me to say. However, with the full explanation I received, I am confident that all parties involved did what they thought was best for the animal. Be careful how you judge someone, because someone else may judge you the same way. I still take my dog to Mill Pond. Are there things that I am not completely satisified with, yes, but I also know that Dr. Thayer is available whenever I want to discuss this with her. Trust me, the level of satisfaction far out weighs any concerns. read more

The facilities are well kept, the staff is friendly and knows us by name, and its comparable in price to near by vets. Our small dog inhaled a pork rib, which can apparently splinter and cause a lot of damage. Dr. Thayer is a very intuitive Vet. I have a 14+ yr old Border Collie who had an episode late Friday. He was taking short breaths like he couldn't get enough air and was lethargic. After 24+ hours my only option was another clinic that had an emergency service. I took him there. $700.+ later they could only tell me to keep him longer for observation. His blood work revealed only mild anemia. I discharged him. As Monday came I saw Dr. Thayer. She gave him a very 'hands-on' look, eliminated Lyme/Parasites by a couple tests. She found a mass in his belly and talked to us about the probabilities associated with canine anemia/the mass and our posible options. The point is the other clinic cost $700.+ and all we got was test results that I had to request copies of. Dr. Thayer intuitively diagnosed him, discussed options and gave him meds. for comfort. We left satisfied with a bill 20% of $700. She is a great intuitive Vet who has a natural way and obivoius love for animals. read more

We are relatively new to the area. I did a bunch of kennel research and narrowed it down to 3 kennels in the area. I went to visit all 3. We chose Mill Pond because it seemed like a place where our dog could possibly enjoy himself and wouldn't be locked in a cage for the entire day. I had the impression that Mill Pond tried to get the dogs as much exercise as possible, which is great. HOWEVER, I picked my dog up and he looked banged up. Blood on his head, his coat on his back, his ear was decently beat up. I hadn't had a chance to really check him much because I put him in the car and took him to get bathed. The groomer called me after dropping him off asking about all the marks on him, etc. and seemed concerned. She then goes on to say "yeah it's happened to my dog there too". And I get it, there are a lot of dogs whatever BUT that's no excuse to hand someone their dog beaten up after you trusted them to watch and care for your pet while you are away. And did no one notice any of these marks to even say anything about it? I asked the TWO people who brought him out to me about his stay, how things went, etc. after my dog was there for 7 nights and they acted like they never even saw him before.... Then I asked if either of them were here during the week and they said yes? This was prior to me seeing all of the marks on him. So all of this was weird and upsetting to me.
