I was a bit surprised when he did not provide any contract, scope or any documentation for our agreement. I've done business before on a handshake so we said fine, let's do it. I gave him $1,000 to begin the work. Weeks later he shows up and begins work. He had been provided detailed blueprints of the project which were all code conforming specifications. At the end of the day, it looked okay but on closely inspection it was clear that he ignored the plan. Biggest problems were location of the first post (public property) and he used 3/16" steel instead of 1/4". The rail was also too tall according to building codes. He acknowledged the errors, promised to fix them as well as adding stainless steel decorative wire for $900 more. I have him a partial payment for the added work with the understanding that he'd correct the mistakes and install the added feature. That was the last time I saw him. Months have past with multiple attempts to work it out with promises after promises of coming this Friday or whatever. No show each and every time. I'm stuck with a railing that trespasses onto public property and violate Federal and local regulations. Do not use this company. Their word is worthless and their work is sloppy at best.
