I moved here almost 5 years ago. I absolutely love the way this course is laid out. It used to be a great course to play. Some neat water features and for most of the year the greens, fairways and tee boxes were retry well maintained. Sadly, it is not being taken care of at all now. The water features are draining and fish are dying. The fairways are as hard as concrete and not watered. The fairways are like a tier under a poorly run muni course. The sand traps are either packed dirt with rocks or they have allowed grass to take over and they're now grass pits. I feel bad for the folks who live in Del Lago on the course. It's just not a good sight to see. I most likely won't go back until it turns around. read more

Disappointing experience. This course clearly overbooks tee times.. they schedule every 4 minutes but expect groups to take 14 minutes per hole. Do the math, because they clearly can't: you're guaranteed to hit a wall of backed-up groups before you make the turn. On top of that, they refused to give our third player his own golf cart and instead tried to make him ride with a stranger who already checked in... all while claiming there was a "tournament" Funny, because there were over ten idle golf carts just sitting unused nearby. Poor planning, poor customer service, and poor pace-of-play management. There are too many other good courses around to waste time and money here. Save your money and go to Fred Enke, or even Golf N' Stuff. read more

5.5 hour round, fifth group out. If your idea of great golf is exceptional greens and dirt fairways with the occasional tuff of grass, and long wait times between swings then Del Lago is for you. The greens fee seemed low until we played it. I will not be back. read more

I want to say that we were of party of 8, went for burger night. Sat outside. It was delicious. Service great! So that is a 5 ***** BUT! I order "NEW YORK" style cheese cake togo. Hoping to enjoy it later when I wasn't stuffed from great burger. Well. Just saying $8 slice of Edwards brand that you can get at Walmart or any grocery store. $7 for a whole pie. It is not New York style or any style as it's a whipped cheese cake. read more

I originally gave a 5-stars rating but knocked it down to 4-stars following our experience in the Hacienda del Lago where we grabbed a bite to eat after the round. In the past my brother and I have had great experiences; we always had the same waitress who provided the right amount of attentiveness and had a great attitude. This time was significantly different. After being seated, we waited 6-7 minutes without being waited on or even acknowledged ... despite the fact one of the waitresses - later identified as Jasmine - walked by on multiple occasions and was aware we had yet to be approached by anyone from the wait staff. For some reason, she had quite a negative attitude. It was only after my brother approached the hostess stand and requested service was a waitress (Grace) assigned to our table. Fortunately, she turned out to be terrific! Interestingly enough, the next group - a different complexion than me and my brother - that arrived was seated at the table next to ours and Jasmine nearly sprinted to their table to greet them. On the good side, the golf course is among my favorites. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are always in good to great shape; there are some great views of the nearby Rincon Mountains; the elevated tees ( with narrow windows) and desert scrub are challenging but fair; and the staff is always friendly. Highly recommended if you're looking for a course while in the Southern Tucson/Vail area. read more

Extremely overpriced for what they offer. Waited for an hour and waitress with curly hair has not even taken our order for drinks or food. We were given breakfast menus and it is past 12:30 PM now, so we cant even order breakfast. Terrible service and overpriced. read more

Never disappointed by this establishment. The course is also in great shape, beautiful views, and it's cooler out in Vail due to the elevation. They seem to be having more events in the evening that is great for the local residents. The food is top notch and they have the best bloody Mary's and Ruebens. Friendly staff and great service! Side note, I have been to several weddings out here and they are so much fun! read more

Good bang for the buck. I have played Del Lago quite a number of times over the past few years. The clubhouse is quite nice, and has a full bar and dining room. The pro shop is small but well done. The course itself is a nice track, with some terrific holes. It will provide challenges but is not intended to crush your soul. Usually, a beverage cart on course as well. I find that the rates are good, and the course has excellent practice facilities. If you are looking for a nice round of golf and drinks/dinner you should have a look. read more

Wedding review, not golf. So my buddy got married there March 7, 2015, a night to remember...one for the record books. Twice prior to the ceremony, some buzzer alarm was activated with the place full of guests. It was deafening. Lasted about 3-5 minutes each time then stopped. Then the ceremony. Beautiful scenery, couple and 238 guests. Then the alarm activates 4 minutes into the ceremony. No one could here anything. A few attendees contacted staff to try to shut off the alarm as it had been going off for about 10 minutes, but no one knew how to function the system. Ultimately, two attendees disabled alarm by unscrewing it. The ceremony was ruined, but as a reminder of the disastrous ceremony, at least the strobe light kept flashing over the bride/groom's table for another hour...awesome! Here's where it gets good. The general manager, Steve Gummere, said he didn't know why it went off, but looked at the children and said he had an idea how it went off. Impossible, the entire party was on the grass, away from the building. Then Steve told the groom who paid for everything, "how do you think I feel"? That's right, the GM told the paying groom customer to be considerate of his feelings, even though he ran a place that single-handedly destroyed his wedding. And the finale. The GM told the groom that he was "going to file federal charges on the guy that disconnected the alarm". This guy is insane never accepted responsibility for the night having been ruined. Fortunately, he gave the groom a $7.00 bottle of Corbell to make everything okay. Seems fair since the ceremony was over $10,000 right? Do not do business here under this management. Amazing that one guy can single-handedly destroy a couples dream night. I must say, the rest of the staff was fantastic. Unfortunately, that was not enough to offset the damage done by the failed leadership and incompetence of Steve Gummere, the general manager. read more

Course was a 6 out of 10 in my opinion. Before going to this course take note, although, they imply all skill levels are welcome, it is not intended. My golfing experience was basically bumper to bumper on every tee with no separation between groups. Don't bother on letting people by or play through, they will complain regardless. If you plan on renting clubs, expect them to be fairly weathered and damaged. If you play golf to get out doors and enjoy yourself like I do, go to a different course. This course was infested with elderly people with little to no courtesy. Truly unfortunate for myself who grew up in vail before that golf course was ever their. read more

My experience with this establishment started with a phone call. I had over an hour drive and my GPS sent me to another area so I called the pro shop for directions. When I asked where to go the gentlemen seem flustered and said that I went to far and if I am seeing houses to turn back and look for a big brown building... mind you all the houses and buildings around are brownish in color. I asked if he could stay on the phone so I could give him a street name and get some directions and he said he was very busy, but to keep going down the road and I can't miss it. (I missed it twice). Upon walking in to check in for our 2:30 tee time, we were the only ones in the pro shop and we were told we were late and that we should have come in earlier to check in. (We arrived to check in at 2:15) when our fourth was not there just yet, the gentlemen at the counter asked if we could just pay for him then because he was busy and we were running late... I asked another person to text our fourth to let him know to hurry and jokingly said "hey, tell him that we are getting yelled at to start" to get him to hurry and the gentlemen at the counter then said, "I am not yelling but if you want me to yell I can. I am a retired engineer." At which point I said that there was no need for all that, and we walked out to grab our carts. At this point it was 2:27 and our fourth had pulled up and was making his way to the carts. The starter came up and asked if we were ready to go and I told him our fourth was here just walking up and he threw his hands up and said well you are late... your fourth needs to hurry up, I will be down at the beginning to start you when you get down there. When we got down to talk to the start again, we mentioned the rough times we had in the pro shop and he lightened up a bit, and was very helpful at that point. The course itself was kept up fairly well but all the rough areas were yellow dead grass which made balls roll quick and out of control sometimes. The greens were very quick which made for a decent challenge. Would have given a 4 star rating if the customer service was not so bad. I don't feel as a paying customer (we all together paid $170 to play) we shouldn't have been treated so poorly. Staff was very condescending because we are a younger group. I unfortunately will probably not play here again. It's a shame because the course is challenging and I am still a beginner that needs a lot of practice. read more

I have lived here for 14+ years. I keep trying to like the restaurant but keep getting disappointed over and over. How can you run out of fish on fish fry night? How can you deliver soup and then 2 minutes later deliver the entree? Can you please keep under the warmer? "No, it is a busy night and there is no room". Come on, full staff needs training still after 14 years. Would not recommend still. read more

Not sure what the issue was in the recent past but that is not the course today. Over seed is in full effect and both fairways and greens are pristine. Greens are running about a 10 and rolling true. The pace of play was perfect and customer service spot on, with drink cart readily available. New carts are an added plus and although a tad pricey for green fees on weekend they do offer military, veterans and seniors discounts. Enjoyed playing and will play again! read more

I live on the course and play it about one a week. I've seen the course condition have its ups and downs, but in the last 6 months or so things have really improved. The course looks fantastic, especially since the overseed this fall. It's a challenging course but not so difficult that you can't have a good time. One suggestion I have is to cut the cost of range balls in half - $10 is a bit steep for a bucket of golf balls. When I hit a bucket I usually buy a couple of beers as well, and for $5 I would come hit balls more often (and therefore spend more on beer). The new carts are very nice. Oh, and do not leave this place without having the Cuban sandwich in the restaurant! It's insanely good. read more

Played Del Lago Golf Club yesterday and I can say honestly that it is in the worst condition it has been over the last 5 to 10 years. The greens are really in tough shape, obviously the overseeing did not work at all on the greens. There are two to three different types of grass growing on the greens which causes putts to go wherever but not where you would expect them to go. and the sand traps have more grass in them than sand. I really was disappointed and concerned that the only golf course in the Vail community maybe in serious financial condition. Can't understand why else the course is in such bad shape. Won't venture back to Del Lago until I can be convinced they have addressed the condition of the course. read more

I read many of the reviews prior to writing this. Lots of whining and complaining about seniors. Sorry for you and your "entitlement mentality". I love the course, I'm able to play it a few times a year and enjoy it in all kinds of weather, rain, snow, wind and heat. Nothing to complain about but my sometimes inconsistent play. Maybe you "intolerant" folks should join a Country Club or other private course where you can vote on the membership and can pick the people you are playing among. Otherwise, get off the public golf courses and get a life. Everyone has a "right" to play. Del Lago does as good a job as any course. I am able to play many courses across the country and all are different. Just enjoy. Remember, "A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work." read more

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT use this venue for your wedding or any other event! While the place is a gorgeous venue to have a wedding and take beautiful sunset pictures, it is a very poorly managed establishment. Nine minutes into our ceremony the fire alarm was activated and the general manager did not know how to turn it off, it continued through the remainder of our ceremony and about 10 minutes into the reception, until a few of our guests, with the help of Del Lago staff who provided a ladder and screwdriver, silenced the alarm by disconnecting the speakers and covered the strobe lights. Then to make matters even worse the general manager, Steve Gummere, worked his way around our wedding telling guests that our children pulled the alarm. He then added injury to insult by trying to give us one bottle of Korbel (a $10 bottle of champagne) and offering a very insincere apology. But that is not all, the next day Mr. Gummere took it upon himself to file criminal vandalism charges against our guests for disconnecting the speaker. Once we got the police report we realized it was filled with lies! In the police report he stated that my daughter, I repeat "the bride's daughter," pushed the alarm button to activate it. Just a quick note, my daughter arrived at the venue with me at 6:00 PM, never left my side, was my flower girl AND stood with me during the ceremony which started at 6:10 PM. The alarm went off at least two times before we even arrived at the place. The owner finally got word of the catastrophe and has since offered us $1000 and a round of golf to make up for a $10,500 wedding with over 250 guests. BEWARE of this place!!! read more

I worked at del Lago several months ago. The course has always been beautiful and in great shape but I wasn't too fond of working there. The GM is unprofessional and unorganized. He doesn't seem like he really knows what he is doing. To this day I still hear that the food is not good and the service isn't too great either. Went for a round of golf Oct 14. First off, they were re-seeding, so it's understandable that the course was under 'duress'. The price was $29, you could not drive a cart off the path, the fairways looked great, obviously soaked in water for the over seeding, and the greens were effectively sand mats. To start they placed a single behind our party of 4 so we immediately had to let the individual behind us play through. All of this was fine until the sprinklers began pumping water into our round. Again, I know that they were over seeding, but we and many others were on the course when sprinklers kicked into full swing behind, ahead, and on top of us. Literally, we were surprise sprayed by popping sprinklers. Let's be clear here, I am not a professional greens keeper, and I do not claim to be an expert in watering of grass in a desert environment, but when people are playing through the course I feel it's fair that the sprinklers are monitored to allow their patrons to enjoy the experience. To finish this off, I am writing this review not because of the conditions, but because of the unacceptable courtesy of the two individuals in the proshop. After being unceremoniously assaulted by the surprise sprinkler attack, I went into the proshop commenting "Hey, we were playing on the course and the sprinklers, not only prevented us from playing the round, they sprayed us" (with what I assume to be reclaimed water, no fun). The more senior individual looked at me with an attitude and simply said "Well that's over seeding, their going all day, we tried to warn you" (while holding up the, carts on path only - reseeding sign). The whole experience was low, but these guys topped it off. I have zero interest in going back to this middle of nowhere course. read more

If you go to this golf course understand that the "men's golf club" consisting of 4 different teams will take up the majority of the course ranging from beginners to advanced levels of experience. Also acknowledge that the new Vail is consumed by your suburban elders who have this natural sense of entitlement and condescending mentality. For anyone looking to have a good time or want to return to the golf I would NEVER recommend this course. My husband and I take out various friends/families/clients and this was the worst experience. They lack competency in obtaining the right equipment for their guests in a timely fashion, the manager told us there was 30-35 minute window between us and the next group (there was and 7), and than had the audacity to question our ethics because a group of 12 men taking up 3 holes complained about us hitting off the black par because their "club" only hit from the green. Am I paying for your advice? Get over your suburban rules and realize many of us are from the original Vail and many of us are not going to abide by your suburban rules, bull expectations, and tolerate your slow speed and harsh criticisms on individuals seeking to still enjoy life. Good management system boys, we could tell you regretted bringing it up because your out of the morn folks showed up, it will not happen again. read more

Well the scenery here is amazing and some , (and i mean very few when i say this) some of the wait staff was good and attentive. I got married out there and before I even had a chance to take a bit of my dinner the "wedding planner" came up to me telling me that i only paid for 50 people to eat and that 56 plates had been used, plates not people plates. Apparently when you have a buffet there your guests are only allowed to use one plate. She was rude when my husband got up to ask her about it and she got rude with him and argued in front of our guests. Just very unprofessional and i would never reccomnd. read more

My Granddaughter and I had lunch at Del Lago today. The new menu is the worse that I have ever seen and I have been to many restaurants. There were VERY FEW choices and NOTHING for my Vegan Granddaughter to eat so we ordered a $10.00 Flatbread and told the waitress to tell the cook what to leave off so that she could eat it. Shameful and disgusting. Cathy, the waitress was very accommodating and kind. The ONLY good thing about our experience. Don't think I will be going back UNTIL the menu is improved. Such a beautiful place and view but the restaurant was almost empty and now I know why. Sad. read more

Just finished reading others' reviews regarding horrible treatment by the General Manager, Steve Gummere. I experienced this on a very personal level this afternoon while at the golf course with my brother and his girlfriend, who are both paraplegic and require the use of wheelchairs. We were there to watch the Cienega High School Golf team play. I rented a golf cart for all three of us, with me driving, as this course has no carts with hand controls for use by my brother or his girlfriend to access the course (which is a clear violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act). As we waited at the first tee for the golfers to tee off, Steve Gummere, General Manager, pulled up in a cart next to us and said we could not have three people in the cart due to liability issues. I pointed out that we had no other option as they did not have any accessible carts. He continued to berate us for and his attitude was "sorry, not sorry" and told us we needed to leave. Which we did. He had no concern that the golf course was violating the law by being discriminatory and not provided accessible carts. His only concern was insurance liability. This type of behavior is the very reason we have the Americans with Disabilities Act. A simple google search brings up a multitude of cases with scenarios identical to this situation. One court held that the ADA requires more than physical access and that it "requires public entities to provide 'meaningful access' to their programs and services." Chaffin at 857. See also, Alexander v. Choate, 469 U.S. 287, 301 (1985). It went on to state that clearly a mobility-impaired golfer is not given "meaningful access" just by being able to reach the pro shop. There must be an accessible golf car provided in order for the mobility-impaired golfer to participate in the activity of golf. Which, as in this case, would also include being a spectator. The behavior, attitude and discrimination exhibited by Steve Gummere is inexcusable. You cannot deny people access and shrug it off as insurance regulations. This matter needs to be, and will be, addressed further. read more
