If you love dogs and you love beaches, this is the place to be! It's amazingly clean. The ocean is so gorgeous. There are some shallow areas for kids to play safely. There are volleyball nets. The views are breathtaking. The sound of kids playing, the ocean waves crashing, and an occasional dog barking is music to my ears. We came to see the memorial rock garden for dogs, but it is no longer there. They took it away while they are making room for construction equipment because they are going to rebuild the bridge and put in a train station near the Del Mar fairgrounds. The rocks have been saved by the person who created the memorial area. So if you're looking for your dog's rock, look up the information online and you should be able to find out where the rock may be. read more

I love Del Mar and the beach in Del Mar in general. Probably one of the best beaches in all of SoCal and definitely a top tier beach in San Diego County (lets be completely real). I do not dare to swim anything south of Del Mar/Torrey. Parking is free in the neighborhoods. Dog beach is my fave bc it's clean and parking (not free) is easy to find. At Del Mar dog beach, there is a rock garden where people commemorate their furchildren who have crossed the rainbow. I've been coming to Del Mar all my life and love it. read more

I have joined Monday night Solana Beach run club for the past month and last night, we ran south from Culture Brewing and I ended running down here vs turning right on Via de la Valle. I couldn't resist with that beautiful view calling! Its a gorgeous beach and I saw plenty of people playing here and their dogs enjoying too! I ran a bit past the dog beach and down to 29th St and got a nice glimpse of the beach from there. Life cant get any better than an evening run with such amazing views! Del mar dog beach is a fun beach right behind the del mar fairgrounds. There were 2 sides, 1 north of the water coming into the inlet, and the south side which has now mostly eroded. The north side is where the large beach is, volleyball nets, lifeguard tower, etc. The beach regularly has dogs playing and frolicking, people swimming, and fisherman trying to catch fish. Definitely a good place to view sunsets, and the fair when it is going on. read more

This has got to be the BEST dog beach we've ever gone to! It's so incredibly clean and beautiful. There's a life guard tower watching over so your pups will be safe as well. The only unfortunate thing is it's not off leash from June-August, so your pups can't run freely which is a bummer. Our girls still had fun though and we will definitely bring them back! read more

I like this beach a lot and so does my dog, but there are some things that could definitely be better. As you would expect in Del Mar, the beach is very nice and clean and lovely white sand. It was larger than I expected and made the mistake of trying to bring a wagon. Turns out it's quite a walk to the water through sand, so recommend hand-carrying your beach stuff. I particularly like the main beach as well as a little channel area. My dog loved running in the waves and wading in the calm waters in the channel. Some things that would be nice is free parking all around the beach, as well as removing the leash restrictions during certain times. Del Mar Dog Beach is pure paradise for pups and their humans. The beach is wide and clean and full of super dog-friendly and mostly responsible humans (you will find some pup droppings periodically, but not that often, thankfully). Dogs of all ages and sizes are welcome, and you will find them running, splashing and chasing toys at all day time hours. The atmosphere is always joyful, and I love that the dog surfing competition comes this way every year. It is also a very popular spot for volleyball practices and competition. I love that the sand is soft, the waves aren't too intimidating, and there's plenty of space in the sand, even on busy weekends. But parking can be very difficult. And while most people are generally respectful and keep an eye on their dogs, it is common to see pups without their families. Pro tips: bring food/snacks, fresh water for you and your pup and plenty of towels. There are no amenities here. read more

I went with my pup yesterday and learned there is a leash law in effect all summer, through Labor Day. I've visited this dog beach for many years and have not seen this during the summer. The stretch of dog beach is less than .5 miles and they are no longer able to be off leash and run - something my Sheppard mix needs and she loves swimming. We will be visiting other dog beaches in the area. It's saddening to hear the residents voted for this during the summer. read more

We took our grand-dog to Dog beach for his first ever Cali adventure. He dogged like he was meant to be a beach dog his whole little life. It was the cutest ever! Dog families were very respectful with everyone and every pup and even a couple cats. I love this place! Always clean and most dogs are well behaved. Off leash dog beach with lots of happy dogs running around but busy road is right there so please watch your dogs and drive carefully when in the area. Have seen a dog or two dart right into traffic. There are porta potties, a water fountain at the entrance, tennis ball lending tub, and a water basin to wash the paws. We used to have to check in advance and go when the tide is low. When the tide is high, everyone is limited to a small stretch of beach. But they added tons of sand to the beach and now you can go any day. Great place to catch the sunset. read more

Paid metered parking with a credit card. There is street parking next to the beach. I didn't see any shower stations or bathrooms, but there are porta potties. I went here on a Saturday in the morning around 10:30 AM and was able to get street parking right near the meter. There were people playing volleyball and tons of dogs everywhere. I was happy no dogs were aggressive and all of them played happily together. The river was flowing pretty quickly when we were there and the lifeguards were warning people to not let dogs or kids in the river. People listened for the most part. It is a very nice beach.... and relatively good water quality so you can feel safe w/your dog in the water. I do not like the very strict leash rules in the summer. After 8 a.m. til sunset dogs must be on leash. I do not know how you can play fetch or let dog swim while hanging on to leash. So truly this dog beach during summer months, allows you to stroll the beach w/your dog beside you on a leash; no play, no swim. So for that reason-I feel it is a mediocre dog beach. Of course it is my opinion because I have a two yr old Golden and went to beach to SWIM & FETCH-not stroll. I took the dog off leash to swim & received 100.00 tix. I was expecting it & frankly, so the dog could have 15 minutes of swimming-was well worth the fine. I accepted my fate w/no argument. What was off putting was the enforcement young man that, when he asked me for my license & I told him I left my wallet in my car-he wanted to see my car keys! Unreal. I suffered a lecture & tix...but again coming from Colorado so dog could have a romp in cleaner & safer water than a bit south.....was worth the fine. If U go again-we'll make a point to arrive at 7 a.m. and leave before 8 a.m. to comply. A DOG beach w/no swimming or doggie games during 'business hrs' doesn't rate more than 2.5-3 stars from me. read more

Surprised by this beach! I was expecting a gross beach overrun by dogs but to my surprise it's like 70% humans and 30% dogs when I went. Parking was a breeze when you compare it to other beaches, it's $3 per hour or $15 for the whole day and don't forget to pay I've seen a couple cars get ticketed. The beach has a good amount of space to spread out and the water is decently cold to wade in. We set up our sun shelter and hid mostly. I appreciate the life guards forcing people to leash their dog! Overall I'd definitely come back if I were in the area for sure. You can't beat the ample parking along both sides and the life guards on duty who are actually making sure people follow the rules. read more

You call this a dog beach?! I'm sorry but at a dog beach, your dog shouldn't have to be leashed the whole time you're there. How are you supposed to throw your dog a ball or frisbee or swim in the ocean if they have to be leashed? All I wanted was to play fetch with my dog and go in the ocean, but that was ruined by the constant harassment of the overzealous lifeguards patrolling this beach. Don't bother coming here unless you want to be overcharged for parking and have lifeguards hassling you if you let your dog run around at all. read more

When in San Diego this is a fun friendly place and you still have to keep an eye on your dog as they frolic in the surf but owners are as friendly as their furry friends. The beach itself is great but my biggest problems are the amount of young kids unsupervised and a truck that keeps going back and forth down the beach. It was going pretty fast to the point where it looked like it slid a bit. If a truck is going down the beach, it should have multiple crew members around it, making sure it's avoiding dogs and people. There was only one guy in the truck and a woman had to help lead him to the end of the beach. Once he got there, he turned back around. There should be more workers assisting him if a truck is needed. Multiple people remarked at how dangerous it was. There were very tiny dogs around it. I held onto my dog, but other owners didn't notice a truck coming down the beach right away. read more

Ruff ruff! Wish I could stay and play with the doggies all day! The Del Mar dog beach is quite possibly one of the most wonderful places in earth. Dogs (one of Gods most glorious creatures) and their owners are gallivanting in the sand and chasing balls in the waves seemingly without a care in the world. The beach is beautifully clean and surrounded by cliffs. In one direction the incredible ocean is before you and the other is the racetrack. Parking is abundant but you do have to pay $3.50 per hour. A small price to pay for such fun and joy in my opinion. There are porter potties available as well as a spot to wash off your feet after you get all sandy. It's also a great spot to play sand volleyball; there are courts all over the place. If the tide is low the beach goes for miles, and the coastline is a sight to behold. At the Del Mar dog beach time seems to stand still and the worries of the day are put on hold to bask in the moment and notice how wonderful and freeing life truly is. This is a wonderful place where man and dog happily play on the beach and invite all to join in. If you have a dog, if you love dogs, or if you just need a smile on a bad day then the dog beach is a must. read more
