I've been so very impressed with this school--the teachers REALLY seem to care about the kids both educationally and personally, They contact me proactively if my daughter slips behind in her schoolwork and seem focused on helping to achieve results rather than on discipline. In her 4 months at the school she's made only a few friends, but the friends I've met seem to be very nice, polite, and appropriate. Oak Valley has a great odd/even schedule system in which the students have four classes each day, for nearly two hours each, rather than cramming 7-8 classes into a day. Each class is every-other school day, so homework is never due the day immediately after it's assigned. And the amount of homework seems to be less because the kids have so much time in class to get things done. If I had to complain about any aspect of the school experience it would be that the Poway Unified School District has a mash-up of online tools available and it's not always easy to know where to find information about assignments and grades. That being said, I strongly prefer having online access to not having online access.

My third son is finishing his senior year at MC and it has been a great experience for our family…read more His two brothers (classes '17 and '20) both were accepted into CA public universities (SDSU and Santa Cruz) and were perfectly able to handle college and graduate on time. All three were active in sports and campus activities and stayed very engaged. We never had an issue with drinking or drugs or bullying. A lot of the teachers and coaches are alumni and have a great deal of pride in the school. I always found it a real sign of the school's family vibe when I think about the openly gay varsity football cheerleader from my oldest son's 2015 season. The school loved him and he had zero issues with anyone as far as we ever knew. MC is a great school where your kid will learn what they need in class but also what they need to get along in society.

Performing Arts Center review. I recently attended a student…read moreperformance at their Performing Arts Center. When viewing the campus map online it appeared much larger and much more confusing than it actually was. The PA Center was immediately to my left as I pulled onto campus, very easy to find and parking was extremely close too! I also viewed the theater seating chart online to pick my seat. I really loved that it showed me which seats would have a blocked view, encouraging me to pick another one. The theater seemed much larger online than it actually was. So when I chose a front row seat, I had no idea I would be "kick up my feet onto the stage" close. It was still a great seat and I could see the entire performance. The acoustics were good as was the lighting. They could definitely use another bathroom, one is not enough!

They have a bully culture that goes unchecked by staff. If you have an issue the principles shrug…read moretheir shoulders and say there's nothing they can do. Even when you request a meeting with the other party's parents and the school, the school declines and allows the behavior. Not a very welcoming learning environment. If other students call your child a racial slur nothing is done. This is ONE OF the earliest environments these children should learn what is socially, ethically, and morally acceptable because obviously they are not learning this at home. To not hold children accountable for their actions is enabling them to continue the deplorable behavior. In addition the school is saying they agree and encourage the behavior by doing nothing to punish or prevent this behavior.
