Our son started going to OPE after beginning in another elementary school in Encinitas in 2nd grade. We thought he was doing pretty well in the other school but after he transferred, we started seeing C's and D's instead of his previous B's. He was also seemingly unable to control his talking in the new environment, so we had him assessed and placed on a prescription and provided IEP support. Fast forward to 6th grade, and he is back on track with A's and B's and even getting recommendations to take honor classes next year in Middle School. I whole heartedly recommend this school. They have great teachers with high standards, amazing IEP staff to play catch up with students that need it, and their counselor Chastity is so wonderfully involved and truly cares about these kids with her whole heart. So thankful that we moved to Olivenhain in time to correct the course of our child!

She was very behind the other students at Diegueno, but the teachers were so patient with her, and even met with her before school each week to help her get caught up. When my daughter graduated from Diegueno she told me "Mom when I first went to Diegueno, I was the dumbest kid in the class, but now I am one of the smartest ones!" I am not saying that either of those statements that she made are necessarily true, but the amazing teachers at Diegueno helped my daughter, improve and grow, and now her confidence in her abilities are through the roof. She has since moved on to high school, but one thing that is interesting is that the kids from her current school who went to Diegueno for elementary school, are excelling at math and public speaking in particular. My daughter even won the award for being the best at Algebra at her new school, because Diegueno prepared her so well, and instilled a natural curiosity and love of learning in her. You will not find a better school than Diegueno Country School.

Dcs is location reminds me of a treehouse and you will have to be okay with the classrooms being a bit smaller than other schools. But they make it work somehow. My kids are happy. I have seen academic leaps and bounds. I used to make sure the kids had two tutors. I have now stopped the tutoring and put my child's education into the care of the teachers. The kids are much more willing to try hard to finish homework without too much prying from me. Whatever system they have. It works. And it is working wonders. When you take a tour take a peek at what the kids are working on and you will have an idea of the academic excellence they strive for. Just book a tour.

My previous school La Costa Heights, had bullies everywhere, and it was a toxic environment. Each grade offers children to work at their own pace, and children can learn curriculum in reading/math up to two grades above each grade they're in without a competitive feel between the children. NO IPADS which is amazing since all public schools use that now as a learning tool and I'd rather my daughter not learn via tapping her finger on a screen. There is an intentional effort to have healthier food options at events, ordered school lunches, birthdays in class, aftercare snacks, but there is also no judgement amongst parents or between admin and parents. They offer extracurricular classes for kids in TK and beyond. My daughter does keyboard and dance once a week after school, and it's really nice, she just stays an extra half hour and I pick her up when it's done, and she LOVES them. The aftercare program has been amazing compared to the other Montessori we went to prior to ECDS. We absolutely love our teachers this year, along with the extracurricular teachers we've met. Ms. Hayes is the new principal but has worked at the school for over 10-15 years, and she is just wonderful, caring, dedicated, and knowledgeable. It's a really good feeling as a parent to have the principal and teachers open and welcoming of communication, and allowing us to be involved with our child's experience at school.
