A coworker of mine was surfing for plane tickets to Asia for the winter and the tickets were a lot…read more Her sister recommended she visit a travel agent she knew of in Chinatown. She went and she was able to find a sweet deal that saved her $600 off the lowest ticket price she was finding online! The prices that were the lowest were still expensive to me and those had crappy layover hours on the East Coast meaning I'd have to check into a hotel for the night and get up at dark o'clock to leave for the west coast at like 5am. Anyway, after my coworker's experience, she recommended to try a travel agent and see if they could get a better price. I had nothing to lose. I tried to find some local agents, but the online sites I found were kinda sketchy. They looked like they made their site via GeoCities. I contacted one that had great yelp reviews and I took it was a bad sign when the lady on the phone wanted to know what country Iceland was in. NEXT! After some searching, I figured I'd try my old stomping grounds and try my old county of Santa Cruz. Lo and behold, I came across Santa Cruz Travel. Their site seemed legit so I sent an email to get a quote. I called the next day and they said they didn't receive my email, but took down the information regarding my trip. Debra took my information and said she'd start doing some research and give me a call back with her findings. She called me back and left a voicemail as I was already off work and in a dr. appointment. She said she was able to find a good rate and since she was out the next day, she would pass on my information to Diana who I could call to discuss her findings. I called the next day, spoke to Diana and sadly the rate was no longer available. However, Diana found an even better rate! Yippie! She sent me a release form for my credit card and such to fill out. Though in the time it took to get my information and other details for my friend (Hazel G.), when she went to issue the ticket, the awesome rate was gone! Noooooooooooooooooooooo! I was so bummed!!! She tried her best to play around with the dates and even see if the rates were better if she bought the tickets separately for each flight, but sadly, the rates were what I would pay if I was getting them on Travelocity. She assured me that the rates were always changing and I could check in with them to see what the rates were again. Thank goodness the trip wasn't for several more months. Over the next week and a half, I called off and on Santa Cruz Travel to check in with Debra or Diana about the rates. They would check and sadly, they were still high. They even went through the trouble to look up rates for hotels, however they were not ones Hazel and I were looking to stay at. I called yesterday and checked in with Debra about the flight rates. She said she would check and give me a call back. She rang back a while later and luck was on my side that day (despite being home sick with allergies) because she was able to find an amazing rate! Turns out the flight she got for us saved us just over $300 of the "cheapest" flights I would have found on line. And the "cheap" flights I was finding were all forced overnights on the east coast. The flights they found us would have cost us a whole lot more if I had bought them online. I said "Yes, let's book it!!!!" And she did. We also bought cancellation insurance was was next to nothing. Debra emailed me the breakdown of the charges and our e-tickets and insurance information. Ta da! All was said and done! It sometimes pays to be patient. Hazel and I are now set with our flights to Reykjavik at a killer rate courtesy of Debra and Diana at Santa Cruz Travel! Both were super nice and patienr with me, especially when I had them look at hotels and then deciding not to go with the deals they found. Plus calling them every couple days and say "Hi, just checking in to see what the rates are ..." and then declining. All I gotta say it was worth the wait. The staff is super patience and very helpful and do their best to get you the best rate they can. They definitely didn't pressure me into agreeing to any rates that I wasn't 100% happy with. Plus, they call you back. They return your calls the same day which is a big big plus in my book. Either way, I'm happy as a clam about my first real international vacation. I'll be checking in with them now every time I need to book a flight. Hopefully by then I will have racked up some actual frequent flier miles that I could apply to future trips. Thanks Debra and Diana!!

I tried calling over and over for 3 days, every time the line was too busy and it hung up on me. My time was running out, so I thought maybe a travel agent would have some secret sauce they could use. Santa Cruz travel had the best looking website by far. I called and talked to Debra. She managed to sort it with a phone call (on special travel agent number) out so I could finish it online. So easy! Debra, you are a hero and a delight. I don't know why I've been trying to book my own travel - I'll be coming to you in the future!

Candace is the *best!*…read more I am not a typical traveler, and I was not looking for someone to help me plan a vacation. After hours of researching fares online, using the various discount sites (Travelocity, Priceline, Expedia, and the other guys) I went to AMEX and even AAA, as I am members of both. Yeah, they were fine, but I was wasting hours of my time NOT getting answers to how to make my trip smooth and effortless. I decided to try a travel agent for once in my life. I love flying: I hate the hassles of the airport. It just gets worse every year. I wanted to see if a pro could "just do everything for me and get me on the plane without the lines and hassle." I needed to book a flight to Costa Rica. I knew where I was going to stay, and when I wanted to go (etc.). The problem was that I had options of which airports, which airlines, and times (not just the $ amount). Look, if you aren't 17 anymore, you might want to think about your travel experience. How fun is it--or how much of a drag is it to get to the airport, stand in line, stand in another line, get frisked by TSA, and forget customs! Ugh! * * * All of this magically went away! * * * I called Candace. I said "I know where I want to go (blah blah blah) and she actually listened to me tell her what I wanted to do. She surprised me by finding me a BETTER airline than I had found in several hours. She guided me though the TSA pre-check, CLEAR, and Global Entry processes. She even sent me highly detailed information (with pictures!) of what I can take on the plane and how to avoid hassles with bring a laptop, iPad, and extra battery packs. She changed my trip from a hassle of questions to a dead-simple "show up, go here . . . they will escort you to the front of the line, where you will be put in the front of the next line, and all you have to do is get on the plane and enjoy your trip." She even helped me figure out how and when to order a tasty meal (for free) on the plane before I went to the airport. Just in case you don't know, one of your biggest hassles flying are the airports you have to layover in. They are not all the same, and most have special lounges you can hang out in to make your "airport experience" infinitely more fun (and less stressful). If you are planning a trip, you need to talk to Candace. Her fee was so cheap ($550 LESS than other TAs I had considered) that I am embarrassed to say here. But the treatment I had was first class. On my first phone call we got everything cleared up and set in motion. And she kept track of my progress over the time as well. I am a fan for life. No more stressing myself out trying to save a buck flying. It is worth three times the price to have a REAL travel agent do the hard work for you, so you can just pop in to the airport and breeze through all of the lines while everyone else is surly and tired of waiting. I feel bad for anyone who travels like that. There is a better way, and that is why I am writing this review.

Sue is the best! I rarely use a travel agent because I've been using fare aggregators like Google…read moreFlights or Orbitz but I recently had Sue at Traveltyme make some arrangements for me and I will definitely work with her again. Here's why: Fare aggregators are great but it's really great to have an advocate on your side. I often fly with surfboards and I had some questions about costs as some policies have changed recently. Sue helped me find the BEST flights (Alaska Airlines $25 both ways!) and also corrected me when I was mistaken in thinking that Hawaiin Airlines had the same deal. Anyways, it costs the same as doing it yourself and, even though I have tons of experience organizing my own travel, Sue has more experience, can get questions answered and that kind of advocacy is invaluable and worth the $5 extra you might end up paying.

Traveltyme has booked our vacation trips and tours around the world including Europe, Costa Rica even obscure resorts in the Tahitian Islands. You may ask why I continue to use Traveltyme now that we have online travel options. The answer is service! Travel is always challenging and there are still flight cancellations, delays, missed connections, and changes of plans. Traveltyme is available 24/7 and has rescued me many times, booking alternative flights, finding special transportation, changing hotels, and doing it quickly (at all hours) to save me time and money. You won't find that with online booking services. Give Traveltyme a try and you may never go back to online booking.

But this time we were away for practically a month! We've never been away that long in any of our trips pre-pandemic days so this was a first! We initially had planned a different trip down under for Dec but had to cancel and instead decided on Southeast Asia. We often travel with a group of friends/relatives but missed their land tour of Vietnam/Cambodia several years back, the region sounded so interesting historically and culturally. Thus we decided we had to visit the area, opted for a week in Singapore and a 2-wk cruise that included Thailand and Vietnam. My spouse is mobility challenged thus we rely on accessibility whenever/wherever it's available. By the time it was decided on cruising Southeast Asia, it was a bit late to book excursions that were accessible although usually there is generally something available when booking at the last minute on the ship. To ensure my spouse could also participate in some of the excursions, we needed tours that were accessible including support in handling individuals in need of more assistance. We were aware that Asia is not exactly handicap friendly at least not as completely as in the Americas, and expected there may be access limitations. I seeked help from Jeanie of Riveting Trips for tours in Singapore and excursions for the day visits off the ship and overnighters. She is affiliated with the Virtuoso Travel Consortium I had used for an online hotel reservation that was merely a fluke discovery while surfing the web a year earlier. I generally prefer to do my own bookings and research but in the interest of time plus a remodel in progress, I'm so glad I seeked help from Jeanie. She provided so much advice and prep info including whether the ship was in port or tender to the shore-that was key on whether my spouse could do an excursion at a particular stop. Then it was suggested by her travel connections in Southeast Asia that overnight stays could be in a hotel since it was a 90 min to 2 hr drive from the port to the town of interest-in this case Bangkok and Hanoi. So glad we decided on the overnight stays in the hotels-we were able to enjoy the destination more w/site-seeing and shopping before heading back to the port. Plus the hotels were 6-stars, elegant and service all around were outstanding, definitely would return to the hotels if we visit again. All the guides we met in each stop were excellent, communications between the guides and Jeanie were all on point. Jeanie was always part of the group chats w/each guide we met should there be any problems that she could intervene if necessary, but that was never the case. I would use Jeanie again for future travel that entail detailed coordination and when we're traveling on our own. Overall, a great trip, despite a hiccup in accessibilty at one location and the hot temps and heavy humidity down south. Dec-Feb is supposedly the best time to travel around southeast Asia....we know humidity from the good ol' southern states in the USA but it was downright steamy in Singapore & Thailand!
