The is where wealthy Delawareans rule over poor Delawareans. This entire legislature is corrupt. Not a one them knows what it's like to have no money. For example, they have no interest in rent caps. Which would help low income families. As if naming the street out front after MLK would distract from their failure to lift Black Delawareans out of poverty. They have a massive amount of privilege to also restrict the citizens liberty to consume cannabis recreationally. As if prohibition has ended consumption. As if these laws don't target people of color and inhibit progressive policy. They also are clueless in the face of growing inequality. Another example, they made it illegal to move a vehicle that is uninsured. The plates will read suspended. This puts unemployed people in danger. This law is built to protect the wealthy citizens from the poor ones. Not vice versa. The government is propping up private businesses, i.e., the insurance industry. If one is unemployed how to they drive to their job interview which may be outside the reach of local public transportation? My bank account was wiped clean simply because I wanted to move my car 1 mile. It was not running for a year. It went for one test drive less than 0.5 miles. This was to test for operational failure. The cop told me it can't move an inch without insurance. If you want unemployed people to have insurance then YOU pay for it. Only an out of touch snob or a selfish fool would disagree. If poor candidates wish to join these ranks they're screwed. Because filing the paperwork for candidacy is expensive in and of itself. Because the rich don't believe the poor can lead. They created every barrier possible. Then they play politics with our lives. Republicans AND Democrats act as if they're enemies to trick the uninitiated to believe they can pick sides. Doing so is a clever rouse, one meant to distract from their failure to lead, and keep the rich in power, and the poor far from it. Essentially removing our voice from the chamber. No politician represents me. Show me one who came from nothing then I may change my mind. But to hell with these rich people who think they can lead because they were given extensive privileges which they claim as them being successful. They had head starts. Went to private school. Had everything handed to them. Yet they think they're leaders? Ha!!Nepotism rules this legislative body. As do the tired old beliefs that permeate it. They have a wait and see attitude for almost everything. That doesn't sound like the proper approach for the so-called "First State", but the last state. We have no courage to push boundaries. We prefer social conservatism over common sense. Over progress. The people are the ones who suffer. Especially the working class as well as the middle class. Never have the middle class survived anywhere that wealth is unchecked. The rise in homelessness corresponds directly with the rise in rent, coupled with the freezing of wages, or the gradual increase in wages which often comes too little too late. The people of Delaware deserve better. They deserve leadership that doesn't hold back progress in the name of their egos and their own economic interests. We can lift every single Delawarean out of poverty. But until the legislature actually represents the people and not the Delaware aristocracy, then hope is far away. Change is coming, like it or not. The future belongs to the bold. And nothing is more stale than a government that has no clue how the average citizen lives. Also, why has our medicine gone up? How's the poor to pay that too? Don't complain about crime and hire more cops. You're wasting time money and resources on something that's economically inefficient. If there's equity, if there's equality, and we lift our people out of poverty, then crime will naturally decline. You're creating the very problems you're trying to solve. Get out the way. The people deserve better. read more
