Honestly, when I looked at the pictures on Yelp I did not expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised once I tasted their goods and was glad that I went. I tried two of their versions of a kolache, which they spell different signifying the difference from a traditional kolache and their version. First was a ham and cheese with jalapeno and the second one was a boudin. Both were really good but I preferred the boudin but that's just me. I also bought an apple fritter which my wife enjoyed. I was recommended this place while visiting Lake Charles for work. There is a savory king cake which the lady told me has crab but it did not and had horrible tasting imitation crab. They charged me $58 for that one cake. Then the other ones I got were also not anything to write home about. In total I paid 188 dollars for 4 king cake and we didn't like any one of them. Our TX grocery store average Kong cake which is 10 dollars tastes pretty much the same. What a rip off! If you're traveling from out of town, avoid this place!! Delicious donuts is the only place I trust for good beignets other than Café Du Monde, which is in New Orleans. Every time I visit the Lake Charles area, I would always get beignets from here. It's not overly sweet and I like the soft, pillowy texture. It's funny because I actually used to choke on the powdered sugar all the time but I've had their beignets enough times now that I learned how to enjoy it without choking (I now dust off the excess powdered sugar before taking a bite - this maybe sounds like common sense, but trust me when I say it's VERY rare that I indulge in sweet/sugary foods). Heard a lot of the locals talk about this place so we stopped by to get a king cake and donuts. It was drive thru only when we stopped by 1/17/21 and there was about 5 cars ahead of us. I ordered the cinnamon king cake but they sadly sold out. So I ordered the cream cheese ($32) They were delicious, melt in your mouth goodness! Definitely way better than the ones I buy at the grocery stores in Galveston. We also had glazed and chocolate donuts. Those were delicious, melt in your mouth goodness as well. As much as it pains me to write this review since my family has been going to Delicious Donuts for my entire life and has been a Mardi Gras tradition every year in our family, one star is well deserved after my last interaction. I called in an order for the Scrap King Cake a week and a half ahead of our Mardi Gras ball to reserve it and they took my order with no problems. I showed up at 11 AM (exactly as I said on the phone) and was told that they had sold the king cake that I reserved a week and a half prior. After telling me they sold it, they said that I could come back later that afternoon when they had made more. This wouldn't work because we had to have food dropped off by a certain time for the ball (hence reserving the king cake ahead of time). They then said they could give me a different cake and then proceeded to charge me for the wrong cake, and even showed me the ticket with my order on it with the missing cake. Like I said, we have always loved Delicious Donuts but this was just all around bad bad business and customer service. There was no explanation as to why it happened and no apology. It just was what it was and that was that. Won't be returning for king cakes with this type of customer service. read more

I pass by this place a lot on my way to work and decided to check it out the other day. The girl at the counter was very patient with helping us pick out some colorful stuff for my daughter's birthday and my daughter loved her colorful hat. Hands down.. best king cake you will ever taste! I've had the cream cheese and the pecan praline and cream. The pecan praline and cream king cake just melts in your mouth, it's basically stuffed with melted pralines. It's very complimentary to the king cake, not overdone, just right. But.. it's sweet, so plan on eating small pieces. If you're looking for something you can eat in larger pieces, go with the classic cream cheese king cakes, it's great, probably the best king cake you can find. We were surprised that they were closed on Ash Wednesday, as they've never done this before, so be sure to get your King Cakes prior to Ash Wednesday if your just visiting for Mardi Gras. read more

What a treasure of a place we found! We happen to be driving by and decided to get a king cake, little did we know that this little shack is the best place to get a king cake at!! It's been a while since I've been here but I've got to say they have definitely stepped up their game. After being a little disappointed at Nelson's one of my other favorite donut shops. At 11 AM, I brought a glazed donut, red velvet with cream cheese, boudin with jalapeno kolache and a banana boat cream donut. It all tasted amazing! Their kolache in size is much bigger than what they used to be a few years ago. Their glazed donut was fresh warm and delicious without any greasy flavors. Normally by this time most donut shops stop making donuts and the ones left have been sitting out and lose their freshness. Oh and if you're a red velvet lover definitely try it, chocolatey goodness. I don't know if anyone has have a different experience but mine was fantastic in the short 10 minutes I was there. Their customer service was great as well. They greeted me once I came in , super friendly and patiently waited until I was ready. All smiles, no weird looks or stares at their piercings in my face! Even with a different customer they were helping, they were absolutely friendly. Most donut shops in a small town doesn't even compare to the amount of variety they have there. Their assortment of donuts are plentiful! I really had a hard time choosing and every bite I had tasted amazing! My eyes were hungrier than my stomach. Got two king cakes from here on Sunday. Ordering was a breeze, called and spoke with someone, told them what time we'd be in town to pick it up and voila! Service was super friendly, we even got to try some samples of the king cake flavors while we were there. They traveled well back to Austin. Finally cut into them yesterday and they were some of the best, if not the best king cake I've ever had. The king cakes I've had here in Austin have always been terrible, glorified cinnamon rolls so this was the one thing I was looking forward to on our Louisiana excursion. I want to start by saying the man who I assume is the owner was very kind. The kolaches were different in a good way. The breading was good, and my kids enjoyed the glazed donuts. However, they were not $7-for-2- tiny-kolaches-and-2-glazed-donuts good. The ham in the kolache was a cheap ham and in a thick clump inside. He didn't offer to warm them up so we ate them on the road cold and hard, which is also my fault because maybe it was me who should have asked.
