I was recently in town visiting and assisted in the pickup of the cupcakes. I got home and opened these little babies and was surprised when I bit into the first one. Where I'm from, Lake Charles is a pretty small town, and I think I went into shock when I had my first taste of a genuine Jo's Party House cupcake! Let's start with the cake: soft and spongy, it had the spring and delicateness of angel food, but with all the flavor of vanilla cake. It's baked to perfection so it's not chewy or dry, but moist and airy, so it feels like you're biting into pure soft bliss. I'm not sure what different kinds of icing they had, but I had buttercream (my absolute fave) and it was the perfect blend! The icing was dyed, but you couldn't taste it, unlike a lot of other cupcakes. It's perfectly smooth, creamy and free of any grittiness I've been unfortunate to experience in the past. I LOVE this place! I even bought a small serving of white chocolate raspberry cheesecake (not too sweet, but sweet enough for sugar lovers). By far, this is one of the best cupcake places I've ever had the pleasure to sample. My only complaint is that I can't stop eating them!!! :)

I've had many of king cakes from New Orleans to Alexandria to Lake Charles, and this one was top notch!!! The women who worked the kitchen at the elementary school I went to used to make them from scratch they were the best!!! (About 30 years ago). Twanies is the first I've had that comes close. That bread is baked with love! It is so flavorful. I love the sugar crystals. The icing tastes so fresh and doesn't dry like cement. We stopped in for a bit before running errands and were greeted with the warmest welcome! In the nicest way they let us know the pizza would be about 20 minutes, so we found a table and got our drinks. The dining area is understated, with wood flooring and tables framed with black metal. The cake cases give you plenty to consider taking home with you after your meal. The pizza was worth the wait: it was boxed hot from the oven. The crust was tender, and slightly chewy texture, with a light and airy quality, and crisp around the edges. The cheese and pepperonis were tasty and not too greasy. We brought home a chocolate cake from the case, with a couple of traditional cannoli. With the kindness shown here and the quality foods, we will be back.
