It was the jaunty bright red shop front that first drew me into this little Polish grocery store at the end of Great Junction Street. Inside, the shelves are crowded with Eastern European foodstuffs and despite its diminutive size the shop seems to stock an impressive range of goods, from fridges full of hunks of meat and cheese, to jars of mayonnaise and pickles and children's sweeties.
Probably catering to Leith's growing Polish population, the prices are very reasonable and the dapper moustachioed owner is clearly a character - he gave me a strangely knowing look when I bought my rye bread, and, unless I'm imagining things, a jovial wink.. read more
