My mission was abruptly cut short after only being in the orphanage for three days, due to being sexually harassed by their male orphanage director and being eaten alive by bed bugs. From the minute I was dropped off at the volunteer house, he was making inappropriate comments and looking at me inappropriately. He was a married man, propositioning me, and I felt extremely disrespected. The second day, some little girls in the orphanage came up to me and made some pretty disturbing comments regarding him, being inappropriate. I felt extremely uncomfortable, and since I was the only volunteer there, I didn't feel safe. To make matters worse, I was being eaten alive by bed bugs. I've traveled all through Africa, volunteering, I know mosquito bites when I see them. I had marks all over my body, despite using the proper sprays..and was only being bitten in my bed. So I reported him to Agatha, and she was very compassionate and apologetic to me. They fired him immediately, but I left Belize because I was in a foreign country, alone, and the integrity of my mission was already compromised. I had spent so much money to be there, and to try to make a difference in the children's lives. A couple of weeks later, I hadn't heard Anything from Sarah, until I reached out to her first. She emailed me practically blaming me for the incident. She offered me a partial refund, which was disappointing. My program was $995, plane ticket $789, took unpaid time off from work then I spent more money leaving early. For her to deny me a full refund, and charge me for the three days that I was there like it was some hotel was distasteful and showed me that she is more concerned with money then anything. During my stay I didn't eat the food because I had become sick after the first meal, and I was bitten by bed bugs in the living counters. Even a hotel would offer their guests a FULL refund. I understand that it's not the organizations fault for how the inappropriate director behaved. However, how Sarah handled the situation was very disappointing, and I will not be supporting her organization in the future.

As a volunteer last year, I got to see first hand all of the good that they are doing as well as spending a day to assist in their efforts: sorting food and creating meal packs for school age children (My plan is to help out in 2017 too!). The most impressive thing is that the Food Bank of South Jersey will provide 2 weeks supply of food to anyone in need who comes to their facility, no questions asked. I hope they continue to get all of the support that they need, through volunteers like myself, donations and grocery stores contributing food!

Yes, she said. I think that's great. 2) A lot of the food seems to come from Whole Foods. (Not sure if that's a good thing or not, as they're owned by pretty greedy Amazon now.) 3) A lot of the prepackaged stuff is organic. 4) I think It's nice everyone can choose theitems he/she wants. Someone usually cites that said the number of things in each distribution group we can have. I sustained one exception to that the last time I was there3/13/23. one of the regular volunteers informed me I could have as many pantry items I wanted. Don't quote me but I think she said that was because I was there within earshot of the closing of the hour long giveaway time frame so sufficient edibles were there still. (I don't know, that said where they store "leftover stuff that needs refrigeration or freezer space. There's a small free parking lot on Carson street that's across the street from the pantry entrance which isn't on GREEN LANE, ACTUALLY. (If you've a car this is an important point to be aware of -- the workers here correctly inform me about given how difficult it can be to find parking on a lot of the street in this neighborhood. I think it's far better that groceries and a place like Whole Foods are giving away food they don't want to sell anymore -- due to their (likelihood) notions their customers don't want anything that's almost "expired," (I could go on and on about that $) than trashing these foodstuffs in landfills that are already clearly overburdened, giving rise to global warming hence, etc. Finally given the food here is free when all is said and done it's definitely a good place to frequent if you're interested in just saving your coinson the recent hiked cost of grocery food. Cons - Regarding my query about where refrigerated food is stored here I had a fairly nasty taste of that (no pun intended lol). The last time I was at the pantry I picked up a fairly large plastic container of carrots and celery (see picture) which had an expiration date of 3/12/23 but which I wanted anyway because I've found "expired " things often last a lot longer than what's noted on various food items. Well for the first time in my life these particular veggies were pretty much rotten-- about two weeks after I brought them home. That's VERY unusual for carrots and celery as these pretty hardy vegetables usually last a lot longer than two weeks in my fridge. I'm 100% certain due to the fact they Had NOT BEEN PROPERLY REFRIGERATED -- if in fact they'd been refrigerated at all after Whole Foods donated it to them however their usual (innate capacity shall I say) to withstand pretty accelerated decay was obliterated. That's disappointing that something like that can happen at a food pantry of all places! I'm not trying to belabor the vegetable matter here but since I've already broached ithere's another thing I don't think is great about this pantry For some reason one can't get fresh vegetables here much. I think that's strange and unfortunate. I've usually had to wait 40-45 minutes before being called up to get my items. The wait time here can be tiring, therefore. After all is said and done of course -- to end on a positive note the fact that much of the food here is organic and pretty decent, healthy, etc I've no reason NOT to recommend it.

The venue is clean and secure, the front door remains locked at all times and then the children's play space is set behind another secured door. The front desk staff does a great job at logging kids in and validating pick up. Reservations can be made online or by calling, but AKP also accepts walk ins. There are themed activities and camps which can be viewed on their schedule. As a bonus there are a few parking spots close to the front specifically to be used for pick ups and drop offs. Over all, it is affordable for childcare. My kids seem to like it.

Our third match came through and independent source, and the birthmother wanted the support of Haven Adoptions to guide her through the process. While this was not our agency, the staff at Haven took us under their wing and agreed to work with our agency to help process this unique situation. It was easy to see why our birthmother chose Haven to help her place her child with us. Haven provided her with great resources not only during the process, but also after placement. They also did an amazing job teaming with our agency to ensure we were supported as well- keeping us informed the whole way through. They were with all of us through the entire delivery/ placement process to make sure that our son's best interests were paramount. We felt comfort in knowing that our birthmother was being well taken care of, and appreciated all the love and support that our family received. We consider the staffs of both agencies to be his 'fairy godmothers' and helping us find our happily ever after. Post placement we send our birthmother regular updates per an agreement Haven facilitated. They have helped us foster and maintain a level of contact that met all of our needs. Their advocacy for birthmothers and focus on erasing negative stigmas around placement is both admirable and supports our beliefs as well. Our journey took us on many unexpected paths, but we believe that there was a reason behind each one. We are eternally grateful to everyone involved, including the amazing staff at Haven. Learning: her teachers have broaden her knowledge on so many things from counting, problem solving, expressing herself, learning the letters in the alphabet and not just by singing them. She's learning how to tell the difference between lower case and upper case letters. Learning about her body parts and how they function. To even diving into fine motor skills and gross motor skills. Going over the roles people play in our community was another. There's much more but that's all I can think of. Events: the events they have are great and brings a huge smile to the little one's faces which just warms our heart. Child updates: I enjoy receiving daily updates and pictures of what my child is doing in preK as well! Everyone that we personally have encounters with at COA has been nothing but friendly, kind, sincere, caring, compassionate, and respectful. The first year we were there it was fine. Ms. Charlene was the best teacher we could ever ask for…read more There were some red flags that we realized but nothing too serious until when Ms. Charlene would call off and there was a sub, all hell broke loose. I watched as she would drag the kids because she was trying to clean. But the second a parent walked in she could somehow pick them up gently? By the time my baby went to toddler B, which had no Ms. Charlene I will add, it got worse. There was a video them reading to the kids and there was a split couple of seconds where a little boy started hitting my daughter. Instead of doing anything the teacher recording chose to cut out my daughter who was getting hit and tackled while the other teacher continued reading like nothing happened. They had more slides that showed my daughter still being hit and they just ignored it. There were a couple instances where my daughter would come home with bumps, like she got hit or somrthing, on her face and when I would ask what happened all of the teachers would say they don't know what happened and they weren't in class at the time. No accountability at ALL!!! Finally for a good year I've been paying almost $300 per day after coverage by CCIS, I voiced my concerns since i was even getting charged when my daughter was absent due to getting sick. After I got approved and it was her last month in Children of America. They called me and my husband saying that they can lower the co pay to $50 and if it was too much we can even lower it to $30. Where was that when I was spending almost a grand per week? Now that I'm leaving you want to help me out? If it wasn't for Ms Charlene trust me, my daughter would be out a long time ago. The teachers for the toddler class has put me on edge, are rude to me, my husband, and my kids who pick up my daughter. They don't watch my kid at all even with me paying a $300 for co pay a day!!! I should've pay more close attention to the red flags a long time ago.
