I've started flying Delta recently to get to where I need to go, and overall, I've been pleasantly satisfied with the 6+ flights taken so far. At Newark Liberty International Airport, Delta's domestic operations reside in Terminal B in Gates 40-47 (the ones closest to terminal A). I believe Spirit Airlines operates out of a subset of those gates too. Anyways, my typical travel sequence is to budget 1 hour prior to boarding by parking at P4, AirTrain-ing it over to Terminal B, skipping through security and arriving at the gate with 20-30 minutes to spare before boarding--that's a bit of an error budgeting on my end, but I guess I guess I get some time to chill and hit the restroom if I need to. I would like to annotate that I travel super light, so no carry-ons or checked bags for me other than a backpack that I shove under the seat in front of me. Security at this set of gates is usually a breeze, no more than 5-10 minutes, but this is usually in the afternoon/evening on weekdays. And speaking of carry-ons and checked bags, the regional planes Delta operates have limited carry-on capacity, so they often advise passengers that they may need to check their bags at the gate if they board during Main 2 or later. Sometimes they attempt to sweeten the deal by indicating you can board in Main 1 if you voluntarily check your bag. Speaking of boarding tiers, Delta apparently has expanded the number of boarding groups during their boarding process. There's pre-boarding and military, followed by Delta One (if applicable), then First Class, Comfort Plus, Sky Priority, Main Cabin 1,2,3, and Basic Economy. When boarding, I've only used the mobile app, so I can't say how the paper tickets fare. And speaking of the mobile app, it's pretty nifty. It often times automatically checks you in assuming you are using it, and it will be up-to-date with status info (gate changes, departure and arrival times). Additionally, anytime there has been any type of delay, Delta's team members have always been extremely transparent about the reasons why (waiting for crew members, multiple changes in flight path, weather, delays due to air traffic and air traffic control guidance). Overall, I've had quite a satisfactory experience flying on Delta so far, with nothing negative to write home about yet. But that may be because I never have to travel with a carry on or I have have to check bags or I never (yet) have had a flight that's been canceled on me with Delta. Maybe it's just luck or coincidence that everything has gone so well so far. I hope that this continues to be the case. And whole wheat Cheez-its. read more

Video On Demand and a great choice of stuff to watch, including TV shows, and they have a bunch of games you can play as well. 4. Cheap, decent food onboard. 5. BISCOFF COOKIES... ohmygod, SO good. They're almost reason enough to fly Delta all by themselves. LOVE THE COOKIES. 6. Wireless interwebz onboard. Rock. Roll. The night away. Yes, this means you. 7. The baggage policy of two bags free is generous. 8. The woman in the in-flight safety video is HAWT (they're apparently referring to her as "Deltalina"). I bet you never thought you'd want to rip a woman's clothes of for saying, "Smoking is NOT allowed on any Delta flight," but the way she wags her finger at you when she says it makes you want to. Wireless wasn't working on my flight down. Rock. Not. So. Much. 2. Mid-movie my VOD screen went into a permanent loop of rebooting. 3. Once, when I was unavoidably late for a flight, a very unhelpful check-in lady basically told me I deserved not to get a decent flight back to New York from LA. Not cool. And now, what you've all been waiting for, The UGLY (and lemme tell ya, Coyote Ugly is lookin' good compared to this): 1. Despite the generous two bag allowance, when trying to check in online for my flight to Antigua, I discovered that a third bag would incur a charge of $200 each way. Let me repeat: TWO. HUNDRED. DOLLARS. EACH. WAY. My ticket cost me $368 round trip and allowed me to take two bags. This means I could have bought a ticket for that third bag (not to mention THE BAG ITSELF could have taken two bags) for LESS than the cost of taking the third bag myself. Dear Delta: Take out gun. Put in mouth. Pull trigger. To make matters worse, when I spoke to their customer service, they explained why they charge so much using phrases like "in this market," and "stay competitive" (which means they charge as much as the other guys to keep up with the Joneses), which is a bunch of CRAP. Running a business and "staying competitive" means being BETTER than your competition, not matching what they do in order to make as much money as possible. What a buncha NOZZLES. And they wonder why the airline industry is in such trouble. It's bad management all around. I should mention that after an hour of browbeating, the supervisor reduced my baggage charge to $100 each way. Still exorbitant, but he was working with me. I told him I'm a scuba diver and that entails bringing heavy equipment, nothing to be done about it, and he clearly got the point. 2. One person on my trip had her bag end up in ARUBA and Delta denied responsibility for it. They blamed the connecting airline (LIAT), even though that connecting airline had never touched the bag to begin with, and they don't even fly to Aruba where the bag ended up. Each subsequent contact with the airline yielded the same exact response, which was that it was not their fault. LAME. All in all, it turns out medium with Delta, but the overall ethos has major flaws rooted in legacy airline attitudes. They seem to somewhat care about their customers, but they're too big and monolithic to give the best kind of customer service or create the right kind of policies, and they need to take responsibility when they mess up. They also have to review those baggage charges. They're ridiculous. Be better than the next guy/girl, not just like them for the sake of it. JAYZUS. read more

Today Sunday, January 5th was my worse travel day: I checked my Delta flight before I left my home. It was on schedule. I drove all the way down to Newark airport and found long lines at the Delta check-in counter. Never mind I have carry-on so I will check-in on the kiosk. The kiosk busy wheel was spinning around for a good 45 seconds until finally it told me to see an agent. I checked the monitors and found my Vegas flight via Detroit was cancelled due to poor weather as were some other Delta flights. So I went on the premier Delta line and immediately called my AMEX travel agent. I waited for 45 minutes until I finally made it to the Delta counter. AMEX was still on call waiting even after 55 minutes so I disconnected. The Delta agent said the earliest flight to Vegas is Tuseday at 5:55pm out of JFK. WTF? I took it for now. I drove home in disgust. I am now back on the phone hold awaiting AMEX to advise me of a better alternative flight to Vegas hopefully tomorrow, Monday, morning or afternoon. Delta = Doesn't Ever Leave The Airport At least Delta said they would refund my airfare, which is the only saving grace.. Well it seems the entire airline network is backed-up because of the bad weather throughout the U.S. especially the mid west. AMEX could not get me an earlier flight than the Delta flight so I will stick with the Delta non-stop out of JFK on Tuesday. Let's see if I make it to Vegas. read more

Delta sucks. I am just gonna say it. I thought US Airways was bad, but I just had some delays on the way back from las vegas, not really that pissed though because it was an overnight flight and I got back early in the morning. Thank goodness, I did take the direct flight home to JFK. Las Vegas Airport is so busy too, any time of day it seems. They only offered people a voucher for flight next time if you gave up this seat for the direct flight to go on an already delayed flight to LaGuardia with a stop in Detroit. I mean it would've been kind of a deal but I was just ready to leave town at that moment. I was in Las Vegas for 9 days. I had just about enough of Sin City, was ready to breathe that New York air once again. The plane actually arrived in NY about an hour late, but I didn't really care it was still only 9 or so in the morning. Since I already had my bags with me, it was a quick walk around of the terminal then out to the Airtrain for me. -HONESTLY, Maybe if they offered an overnight deal with hotel like the Orleans or something, maybe would have been voluntarily bumped or something to stay one more day. Technically, I wanted to get out of there, even though I didn't do that much gambling so did not lose too much money. Basically, just listened to music for the 4 hour plus ride home on the delta in flight entertainment device. I was super cramped up though at least on my legs. There was some big, smelly dude next to me on one side cramping up my style so that pushed me further into a non comfort zone and then there was a decent looking chick on the other side who was a Vegas local, so our chat was quick and had a bunch of nothingness in between. haha, even she said Las Vegas is not recommended to anyone to stay 9 days there, nah mean. Of course, there was no food on the plane either, just one drink. I got a ginger ale. Funny too that most people were sleeping so did not even get their one drink option. I guess I slept half the way home so that made it a bit enjoyable. Last time for some reason, I remember having a much better time coming home on US Airways in the same red eye flight environment. I think the direct flight home did cost more than I originally wanted to pay but the price did keep going up as I was monitoring it. At least I didn't lose my bags or no major craziness happened either while abord this aircraft. read more

Delta is horrible. DELAYS & CANCELLATIONS Instead of canceling flights with enough notice, they wait until you're at the airport and then delay it for 20 or 30-minute time slots, then keep delaying and delaying. Once they almost put me on a flight in horrible weather conditions then canceled at the very last minute when we already boarded the plane. Nice to know they value our safety. LOST LUGGAGE After one of my cancellations, they lost my luggage and were completely disorganized and understaffed at JFK airport. Three different people told me three different things which led me to wait hours at the airport without anybody telling me until the third person I asked that I had to put in a special request to get my luggage. It still took 2 hours after that. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE Despite my horrible experience, they initially refused to give me anything beyond a few extra miles. Nothing monetary. After begging and pleading they finally gave me a $75 gift card that apparently expires. Totally my fault for not realizing that, but then when I tried to still get the gift after the expiration date they refused. Totally unconcerned with customer satisfaction. No willingness to go above and beyond at all. Not surprising they were implicated in colluding to inflate prices. They don't care about customers at all. read more

DELTA = Doesn't Ever Leave The Airport This is my first time on a round trip flight with delta toward New York. On my way to New York I honestly had a decent experience. Now coming back from New York our flight was scheduled at 7:25. My girlfriend decided to call in before and the my told us it was delayed to 7:45. At this moment that's something that normally happens. Once a we arrive to airport we have an additional delay "the plane has not arrived" more of a delay. Plane arrives 8:15. Which they announce they will start to board. 9 pm and they mention that we are still waiting on flight attendants to arrive! Now I have my family emotional waiting for me to get home. Paying for wifi, food, water which we all know it's not cheap at the airport. Imagine if you were late a few hours to your flight. Plane takes off and nothing you can do then kick yourself in the a**. It's disrespectful how they have managed my time. If they would have mention plane would be late or flight attendants I would have manage my time differently... I really hope someone in delta pays attention. Like I said previously it was my first time and most likely my last one. Delta! Once again thank you! PS: not even a voucher for beverage for the delay! Great job guys! Now I have to add on more to it. My carry on bag "couldn't fit" they didn't even let me take it to the plane. All my souvenir that I brought broke "mugs, picture frames, and nice foot long Statue of Liberty and an awesome Empire State Building with King Kong on it. I couldn't wait to get home to see it. Delta has really improved since my last trip. This was from Newark to St Lucia, with a layover in Atlanta. There is a lot more space in my economy seat, and excellent entertainment options. They even gave out earbuds (which was great, because I totally forgot mine). Boarding was quick and easy. I am thoroughly surprised. I hope it continues to be so nice. P.S. I took United on the way back, and was not so pleasantly surprised. =( read more

I don't even know where to begin...one star, they don't even deserve it. Almost $500 for a one way ticket and I get treated like you gave me the flight for free. Really? So I show up at the airport pretty early expecting a ridiculous line for security check. There were a lot of people on the line that were cutting it close for their flights and the Delta representatives were doing a horrible job, as they called it "expediting" these people to the front of the line. The majority of them could care less if you missed your flight! For those who did care, at least you tried! An hour and a half later, i made it to the checkpoint, yay! I happily put my shoes back on thinking i just made it for boarding. Boarding for my flight was scheduled for 4:19 pm. It's 5:00, the flight is delayed to 5:15, okay. It's 5:15, delayed to 5:30...delayed to 5:45...delayed to 6:05...delayed to 6:15...delayed to 6:30...to 6:45...to 7:00...to 7:15...then CANCELLED. If only they had told us earlier, but instead they chose to tell us, "crew members are on their way," "we're waiting for a flight attendant," "one of the crew members timed out (wth does that even mean?!)" I'm at the desk to rebook my flight, were you seriously rushing me? You just wasted my entire day, but it's not okay if I take a couple of minutes to decide which flight I want? Seriously?! I wanted to get back my suitcase, which I checked in. I went downstairs to get it and they told me it was going to be a 3 hour wait, wait what? So I wait a bit, go back to the desk and ask again, this rep told me they're loading or already loaded my suitcase. Great, so my suitcase will make it there before me! If I had written this update before my last return trip; it would probably have gone to three stars, but no; they had to screw it up on the return... Flying with Delta is like getting a cheap box of candy or chocolate; you have no idea what kind you are going to get; it may be good, but also may be terrible... Oh my, who is running this Airline? Seriously, I so want to find out and hope to meet this person one day because I think I have a few things to say that might help them run their business. But I should blame myself for keeping traveling with them; if it wasn't that is so damn cheap... On my trip to Savannah GA everything went fine, not complains whatsoever but on the return they just kept changing the departure time backwards and forward like if was done by a child playing with the machine. My last trip to the Midwest was a bit hectic due to the weather - the typical flight delays and lack of information was the way my travel went going and coming but Delta made my trip as comfortable as possible. I fly out from LGA and was highly impressed with the short (barely there) security line, helpful staff and amenities. You didn't have to be a first class or elite status flier to access the cubicle space to work on your laptop, indulge in the lounge or hang at the bar for some nosh as you wait. When I finally got onto the plane en route to destination, the legroom as good enough for me to stretch out and overall the flight was not bad with all things considered. I definitely will fly out using Delta on my next trip. read more

I've flown Delta a lot recently, 8 separate flights on two different trips. Back and forth to San Jose, Costa Rica and back and forth to Birmingham, AL. Both times I had to connect, so 8 flights is a pretty good barometer to write a review on, especially since I've been willing to write reviews on bars I've been in for 15 minutes at 2:30am on a Tuesday. If I was just writing about Delta International, this would probably be four stars. Our flights left on time, and their new video touch screens with games (trivia and poker vs. other people on the flight), TV shows and movies were great. If I was just writing about local flights in and out of major airports (Newark to Atlanta for example), this would probably be 2.5 - 3 stars. The flights had delays, they oversold the plane, and if the plane had those cool touch screens, all the cool stuff I mentioned above was now priced just above what any sane person should be willing to pay. And then we get to flights like Newark to Memphis and Memphis to Birmingham. Old planes, more delays, finding out while on the plane that even though every other airline (including other Delta flights) don't take cash anymore, you need cash for your drink on the flight to Memphis because they haven't been given the card scanners yet. Apparently part of Delta's crew of planes is a few years behind the rest. I don't hate Delta, I'd fly them again, but in a word, meh. read more

I'd had good experience with Delta. I'd traveled with other airlines that have extremely outright rude service. Delta is just a bit impersonal. Just strictly business. I was lucky to get wifi for one flight that was at least 6 hours. I didn't take advantage of it till much later. Boo. I had several times had an entire row to myself and could lay down to sleep. Better than first class? I can't say for sure since this student budget only allows for so much. It was great and while that has more to do with luck than anything, the seat selection option does help a bit. And the attendants don't mind if you move seats once you take off. As long as you don't get into someone's way. I haven't had a chance to use my racked up miles yet but I don't see much of a problem with cashing them in. I have heard so many horror stories about Delta (losing luggage, charging mile-high rates for checking in bags, DELAYS, etc.....) and I hope never to experience it. read more

I've been a lifelong American Airlines customer. I think I hit 18 years old with over 200K miles there. And for the duration of my college experience I spent my AA miles on a variety of trips. However I stopped buying actual full-fare AA tickets because frankly they were too expensive. For that reason I changed over to Delta because they seemed a bit cheaper. However now I just want to use up my Delta miles like I did with AA so I can move over to Southwest. Delta is just riddled with ridiculous ripoff fees, and not only that but their economy class definitely has less legroom than AA. To illustrate the point of fees: I was particularly annoyed when I traveled with my dog to see my parents last Thanksgiving. Basically I got there and paid a $200 fee to take my dog with me, as a carry-on as well, so its not like he was taking any extra space. The lady at the counter did not mention at all that the $200 fee was ONLY ONE WAY! I ended up slapped across the face with another $200 just to bring him back with me. That is complete bull. I know all airlines have an animal fee, but $400 for a roundtrip carryon? Comon. That is ridiculous. Its basically another passenger ticket. At least southwest is reasonable at $75 each way - just to give you an idea of Delta's fee ripoffs. The moment I cash in my miles I'm out of this airline. read more

Delta is the only airline I absolutely refuse to fly ever again. They dinged me $300 for my oversize baggage, even though a manager swore up and down she would waive the fees. When we got to the airport and asked for her not only did they refuse to honor her promise, but they wouldn't even bring her out to speak with us. Then they sent us to the wrong terminal and we almost missed our flight. Finally, I had a stewardess named Nancy who I now call Nazi Nancy. She was nasty to everyone on the plane, even refusing to take people's trash and making annoyed remarks when I asked for drink. When I stood up to search for a missing item that she had refused to help me with, she threatened to put me on a "no fly" list and someone would be "waiting for me at the gate." No one was, but I couldn't believe the abuse of power! People around me gave me their number as witnesses if I did indeed need to deal with feds for no reason. Never again. Never. read more

DELTA NO LONGER ALLOWS CARRYONS On my January overnight flight from New York to Sao Paulo, all passengers were told they have to check in their carryons, because there was no more room in the overhead bins. This was after the priority members had boarded, with monstrous amounts of luggage. For a short flight this would be OK, but this was for a flight to Atlanta, a layover in Atlanta, and then an overnight flight to Brazil. What if we need snacks...a sweater...medication...a laptop? Other reviewers have made the same comment, so it seems to be the new policy. I have never heard anything like this from any other airline. read more

I fly at least once a month and have dealt with many airlines over the past 15 years. So when I say Delta Airlines is the absolute worst airline out there in every respect, I'm speaking from experience. Unfortunately, now that I live in NYC, Delta flights are often cheapest for destinations around the East Coast as JFK is one of their hubs. So I've taken at least 4 flights with them in the past 6 months. - Every single flight has been delayed by 1.5+ hours. Every single one. - They're never apologetic about anything, including flight delays. - Their agents are the rudest people I've ever encountered. Delta seems to hire customer service agents who hate people in general. (I'm not too surprised as I have a friend who worked for them as a flight attendant for 3 months and ran away as fast as he could. They underpay and treat their employees horribly). - Their flight attendants are rude and unhelpful. Everyone I've encounted has an attitude and seems to hate their jobs (as mentioned above, I know why, but it is not an excuse). - Their planes are usually old. And many transatlantic flights do not have personal TVs in this day and age! I flew from NYC to Cape Town on a 17-hour flight and we had no personal TVs. Even the cheapest airlines in Asia have this for 10-hour flights. - Their frequent mile redemption program is the worst in the industry, especially after the merger with Northwest. They advertise 25K mile flights for roundtrips within the US, but you will never be able to actually book anything for that amount of miles unless you're traveling somewhere relatively close (which costs nothing anyway) or on completely random dates (forget weekends most of the time). And if there is anything available, it will have one flight at 25K with crazy unnecessary connections. I've had miles with them for 6 years now and haven't been able to use them even though I fly at least monthly. I don't have that problem with my American and United miles. I assume that this must be the main reason that Continental switched to the United alliance. Bottom line: avoid this airline at all costs. And definitely do not get any credit cards that get you their miles. It will be a huge hassle to use them. read more

Dear Yelp, can you introduce the zero stars policy? I feel that by giving one star, Delta may actually be doing at least one thing right, and let's face it -- they're not. I've flown Delta quite a few times from SF to NY. Standard domestic flight. Bearable once you take enough sedatives to dull the pain. But recent events over the December 2010 vacation have led me to believe I need to book that free flight with my miles ASAP and get the heck outta their skymiles program. After arriving in JFK and finding out international connection cancelled due to snow, the Delta rep. at the desk start the conversation with "Don't expect us to put you up in a hotel overnight since this is due to weather...". Nice. And what customer service school did you go to my dear? You're probably thinking that this doesn't so bad... cancellations happen. Well hang on, it gets better. Don't worry. That same night, we called the Delta contact number and check online to be informed that while online indicated our rerouted flight was cancelled, the phone representative was telling us not to worry and to proceed with going to the airport to get on the already cancelled flight. Stiiiiike 2. But beat me while I'm still down. We're rerouted yet again. Call 5 times to verify with 5 different agents that we are confirmed on a flight from JFK to LHR with seats. Check online 5 times to verify the same information. Go to the airport. Check in our bags, get tickets with seat assignments. Go through security. Go to the gate. SIT AND WAIT FOR 7 HOURS BEFORE BEING BARRED FROM BOARDING THE PLANE WITHOUT EXPLANATION, along with 30 other people. Explanation? None. After several people started crying (this is the Christmas holiday afterall), we find out that they double booked the plane and gave all our seats away. Is there doodoo in your pants yet? Because I'm kidding you not. They knew for 7 hours that they had double booked passengers and proceeded not to tell us. We then had to sit through a 2 hour rebooking process, even longer for some other people. An angry mob had to be formed before Delta found the decency to offer hotels for the night and even meal tickets. Initially there was serious hand-waving saying that it was due to weather and therefore they were not accountable. Really? Because I do believe that snow cannot infiltrate your computer system and give away passenger seats. Snow cannot NOT get on a PA system and call passengers over to tell them they made a mistake with their seats. Delta Duplicity Delta Airlines is running a scam on its customers. You go on line to make a reservation and then get a diagram of the cabin that shows that there are no seats available except in first class. So you call Delta's 800 number and are told that if you make flight arrangements by phone there will be a $25.00 surcharge. You suck up the surcharge and are then told by a customer service rep. that there are plenty of seats; they just won't assign you one. So you have bought a ticket but no seat. You are told to show up early at the departure gate to get your seat assignment. The burden is on you and you have just been bilked out of 25 bucks. This is not simply unfair; it is unprincipled. This airline is run by scam artists. Although I don't love United and their flights from Newark to Atlanta are fewer, I'll suck it up just to avoid this grasping, unprincipled company that deserves to merge itself into oblivion. read more

Worst airline ever!!!!!! We NeVer fly anymore and this is why!!!!! We paid a fortune to fly round trip first class to anchorage Alaska from JFK. We changed planes in Seattle. A very long flight so we paid the big bucks!!! Yep, our seats were a little bigger than economy class. That was all! The food was inedible. We didn't even have the option that economy had to buy cheese and crackers because they ran out!! We were flying 11 hours and starving. There was one bathroom in first class and the poor people on economy was barred from their bathrooms because the food carts blocked the one aisle so there was a long line to the first class bathroom which needless to say was filthy by then. On the first leg of this journey the chargers for our iPads, phones etc did not work but that was nothing compared to the connecting flight and both planes on our way home. Those planes were so old they had no movie screens at all. In fact the planes we took for the return flight had no plug at all to even listen to music from the plane. We could use the wifi on one of the planes to watch movies on an i phone or iPad but no mechanism to keep them charged. My husband just wanted to listen to music but unless it was already down loaded on his phone ( which it wasn't) he couldn't even do that. If there was any way to do this, the staff was completely clueless of how to use any of the technology. even the planes from the 1970s provided a music channel. So here we are paying the huge bucks for first class with no edible food, no premium alcohol, no entertainment whatsoever and long lines to filthy bathrooms. But it gets better! on our return flight we landed 30 minutes early only to be trapped in the plane with the nauseating smell of the fumes filling the cabin before we are finally released. Bottom line is Delta does not care if you are willing to pay a fortune only to be treated like a mere human being. They know they don't have to so they don't bother, they just take your money. Delta is a confederacy of dunces. After cancelling a flight from San Diego to JFK so close to the time of boarding that we were driving to the airport only to receive a text, it took over three hours to speak to an agent who was rude, unprofessional and inappropriate. No effort at all was made to help my family, no guidance, assistance, nothing. To add insult to injury, the flight coming to San Diego was cancelled in New York giving Delta ample time to inform passengers on our end. Disgraceful and no help at all in getting my family home. After a 90 mile drive to another airport and over $2,500 spent, finally got to JFK. Never, ever fly Delta if there is a choice. My first and last time. read more

I will try to avoid Delta for the rest of my life. They are so unaccommodating with flight changes. I accidentally booked a flight for a month later then I wanted to come home ( I did Jan 20th instead of Dec 20th). The flight numbers were all the same so I didn't notice the month difference. I know exactly how it happened now, I booked on the website and it has a confusing calendar that pops up for each flight. They charged me $155 to change it even though there were open seats. I flew Delta once during the summer of 2008 from New York (JFK) to Dublin, Ireland. My overall experience with them was just average. Flying out of JFK Airport is not necessarily my first choice, but I found a good deal on Delta. At the time, Continental Airlines was still in the same airline alliance, so I was able to get miles on my Continental account using Delta. Check-in process was chaotic. There were not a lot of people working the counters, my passport wasn't going through the machine reader for electronic check-in, and there was an immense line ahead of me. I was really worried about not catching my flight at that point, and I asked someone who walked by for assistance who took me to the front of the line. I arrived 3 hours prior to my flight, and I think I was finally checked in about 30 minutes before my scheduled flight. Luckily, in this case, my flight was delayed, and I didn't have problem catching my flight. It was an overnight flight, and they did make up for the delay. My daughter absolutely loved that they served vanilla ice cream as a snack! Other than the ice cream, there were no other little perks I remember. Flight attendants were professional. I was honestly so tired that I did not even check to see what they had on TV; we slept most of the flight. Same thing on the way back. No problems with our luggage which is always nice. Coming back home was a bit easier as the Irish airport is not as chaotic as JFK. I slept at the airport because of I had flown in from London the night before, so I was one of the first in line to check-in. read more

Delta is just one failure after another. I booked a vacation with my boyfriend flying in from Jacksonville to La Guardia to leave the next morning to Portland ME and the flight was delayed over 4.5 hours due to a mechanical failure. I'm supposed to be a "premium" delta sky mile customer and had to wait over 1.5 hrs on the phone to get exact information as the staff on the floor was clueless. They rerouted the flight with an end of day flight coming in late, but by then so may people were angry they got denied access...really? Even though they paid for hotel and first morning flight, my vacation plans were ruined. So this is the last time I fly delta. read more

We were told that the plane is having electrical problems for the first hour when we should have departed. We are still sitting here and it's after 1:00 am. We were supposed to be renewing our vows. I paid extra for economy comfort but I was less than comfortable. For starters I get on the flight and had chosen a window seat but there wasn't so much a window as a wall with a window between each seat. Once we got in the air, during a dinner time flight, it turned out that there was no food that could be purchased, the only food offered to me was a pitiful bag a peanuts, great dinner fare I'm sure. When I was asked if I would like a beverage I mentioned I would like a ginger ale I was informed that they were out. Now I could understand this if I had been in the back of the plane, but i was in the third row of coach, that is just unacceptable, this entire flight has been unacceptable. I'm starving, have no window, and nothing to drink to settle my stomach. I will not be flying delta in the future if i can avoid it. read more

Take us off and put us on another plane and take your time and be sure it is safe. I know how hard airline travel is lately and there is so much disappointment and delays. I'm giving 4 stars to Delta today, because of 1 amazing customer service agent who actually listened when we were upset about a 2 hour delay and the inconvenience it caused us. She bumped us to 1st class event though we are not "Frequent Flyers." She was able to bend the rules just a little to make her customers happy! Now that is customer service. On another note, Delta needs to make sure all flights have TVs... there were no TVs on the flight across the country. Not ideal. read more

It's too bad I can't give a zero star. Delta and Virgin airlines gave me the worst experience ever with any airline and I'm a frequent flyer. A few days ago I was to take a flight with Virgin airline which turned out to co-operate the flight with Delta. Due to erroneous airport express information given by airport staff, I got to the terminal 1hr 15 min before the flight instead of the planned 2hr advance time. It wa cutting it close but I still have 15 minutes to check in my bag. Fortunately there was no line and seven counters were still open for bag check-in: four Virgin economy class counters that were serving other passengers at the time, and next to them three Delta premium economy class counters were open. Since we already check-ined online and got our boarding pass the night before, all we needed was to check in our bags, so I got in line. None of the three counters for Delta premier economy bothered to call me for check-in despite being free. I didn't think much of it at the time as I thought they were Delta counters for premium economy class, and the Virgin economy counters were still open. A couple of minutes later, one counter for Virgin economy class became available. As we I walked up to the Virgin economy class counter, the agent closed the computer and walked away. So we had to go back in line to wait for the next available agent. Meanwhile, the agents at the Delta counters were still free but didn't call us up. After waiting in line for another 10 minutes or so, a Virgin staff who walked by offered to take us to the Delta premier economy counter for check-in. Apparently since the Virgin flight was co-operated with Delta, both Virgin and Delta could do check in for the flight I was boarding. When I was bought to the counter, the agent informed me bag check-in closed five minute ago. Needly to say I was shocked and dismayed that they did nothing to help me when I was kept waiting in line all these time while bag checkin time was expiring. He called a Delta supervisor to come over. The supervisor immediately accused me of waiting in front of the wrong counter. It was delta flight, she said, and I shouldn't have wait in front of Virgin counter. I told my flight number was actually Virgin's. Then she started accusing me of coming to the airport late and missed the check in time, conveniently ignored the fact that I was kept waiting inline while her agents, knowing it's the same Virgin flight and they could easily check me in, did nothing. Her excuse was that her agent didn't call me because they didn't know I was checking in for the flight leaving soon. Apparently at Delta, it's ok to ignore a customer waiting in line bemused agents can just assume they are boarding a later flight w/o asking. She then told me it is my responsibility to get the attention of the staff if I needed to check in. I shouldn't have just "stand around and do nothing", she said. It didn't seem to occur to her that when a passenger stand in front of a counter, she might actually be waiting in line for service. No, we passenger just come into the terminal to stand around for fun, apparently. She actually suggested that when I come into the terminal I should immediately started yelling for the attention of an agent. If no agent is available, then even I should interrupt other passengers at the counter in the middle of their check-in process. This is the most ridiculous and unbelievable thing I ever heard from any airport agent! She actually suggested I should do something to disrupt airport order that could get me arrested? It's not bad enough that our flight was missed, she would go to such extraordinary length in making these unbelievable stupid comments just to blame a passenger I order to hide the fact that her agent's tardiness cause me to miss my check in time? And, instead of defusing the situation, she escalated the situation by actually insisting on charging me $600 to re-book a later flight for me and my companion, after the ticket agent already informed me the later flight was a very empty flight. All because I actually dared to complain! When I said I want to find out the name of the the agent at the counter who walked away instead of checkin me and file a complain about him, she actually told me no one was working at the counter all day. Apparently I needed an eye exam, or the airport was haunted by a phantom agent and phantom passengers that I saw earlier while I was waiting in line! How on earth did the airline hire such staff and did they even train her? She obviously no idea what customer service is. In these day and age, it's foolish for any airline to treat their customer this way. Millions of advertising dollar can't erase bad word of mouth that can spread over the Internet at an exponential speed. I will never fly Delta or Virgin again even if I had to pay more. Delta is a pretty good airline. They have very comfy seats and the staff are very funny and friendly. I would just give it a 4 stars to be calm. Great airline. But, the problem is, the flights are usually 2 or 3 stops which that is the worst, especially flying in groups. But, delta is pretty good as an airline. Nice economy comfort seats. Better than united economy comfort. The reason why is united's economy comfort seats barely recline, so that could be a problem. But delta has much better economy comfort seats than UA. Keep it up delta with the awesome seats!:) read more
