DeMar has a pretty good selection of craft beer, especially in their walk-in. And the kids on the floor are pretty helpful, but I do agree with others, the owner is aloof. Strangely, I've yet to come across a beer distributor who's pleasant, so maybe it's a thing?? If you guys think they're cranky at DeMar, have you been to Shoreline?? Review would be better if the prices were more fair, they're quite high. If I'm feeling lazy and need craft beer, I'll stop at DeMar (especially if I'm also food shopping at Giunta or S&S). I don't understand why this beer distributor has such a low rating. Nothing but praise for the woman who has kept this place up and running. I think just a few bad experiences and people take to yelp to bash a business is poor taste. And the racist comment is completely unfounded as I am a Out gay man who has never had a problem with the owner. You are there to buy craft and unusual beers and this place provides that exceptional service. As far as recommending Joann is hands-down on top of her game. Beer / Soda distributor. De-mar is conveniently located right on 25A just before you head down the hill into Northport Harbor. You do pay for the convenience though as the prices are not the greatest - but it is there and the beers and such can be had cold and you can be back on your way in a jiff. I have not had similar experiences with the owner as other Yelpers purportedly have had. My second time coming to this store we chatted for over half an hour and I would say the adjective "nasty" to describe her does not seem accurate to me. She even threw us a freebie of something real nice. As for the selection itself, it's pretty standard. There did not seem to be many limited releases and at this time I have no idea how often they get in rare and limited releases, but overall there's a pretty standard mix of breweries you can get everywhere in NY. The beers themselves are displayed in no discernible order. There was a few instances of the same beer being in different physical locations, for example. The prices are a tad high as they are more in line with NYC pricing, but overall, it's a small difference from other local distributors and they are located in a pretty busy area. Finally, I have to deduct a star for not making use of BeerMenus (or social media) to post new arrivals. These are surefire ways to get customers to your store. An up-to-date beer list is the one thing guaranteed to keep me coming in frequently. For now, this is a place I'll mostly just come to when I run out of beer I bring back from traveling or from going to my old favorite standby Beverage Plus in Floral Park, which unfortunately there is no replacement for on the Island. read more

They have a good selection of Beer. So does every other Beer distributor. What others don't have is their poor customer service. Lady waves me up to the counter, I assume because she can not use her words. Oh wait, yes she can, she just picked up the phone and proceeded to have a conversation while I stood there for several minutes. I ask her if the ice is in the back since I was waiting, she responds, "ask him if you need assistance." Yeah no, you're not getting my money. You just lost out on $40. A nasty woman manages the place and is out right rude to her customers. I have been in here several times and while the helpers are nice, she works the cash register and has a nasty attitude. I don't know why I keep trying to give this place a chance. Most of the beer is overpriced. Which tells me they either clearly don't order properly or they are just marking it up to make more on it. Selling 6packs of Montauk for 11.99 when the stop and shop across the street does it for 10.99 is baffling. Then you find some decent stuff and everything is like $20 a 4 pack. Sip of Sunshine is being sold here for $19 and change. Everyone else sells a pack for $15/$16 now that Lawson's contract brews and distros through two roads in Connecticut. I don't know if they are buying barrier directly from barrier at retail prices to make them resell at $20. But a pack of money should be more than like 17.99 retail. How dense does one have to be to come up with this pricing scale. This owner needs a reality check in how to order properly so they can price accordingly. So what you are in Northport you shouldn't have to mark up prices just cause the area you're in. read more

The lady at the counter was beyond rude when we went to make an exchange after 20 minutes. She stated that it was NYS law that beer cannot be exchanged after the buyer leaves the premises at any point. This is unequivocally false and just goes to show that she does not keep the customer's best interest in mind. Was here over the weekend. Picked out Blonde Ambition - price was labeled on 6-pack as $10.99. Charged $11.99 at register. Asked about discrepancy and was told by the owner that new hire messed up and wouldn't honor labeled price. I asked if she was going to lose a customer for $1.00 and she responded that I was picking a fight. I walked out. Drove to new grocer next door and got same 6-pack for $9.99. Never going back. I've always tried to give this place a 2nd and 3rd chance; but the price and lack of customer report not worth it!! read more

The owner is extremely rude and ungrateful to to her customers. When I questioned why I was being charged several dollars more than the product that I was buying was labeled, she said that it was labeled incorrectly. She then tried to charge me EVEN MORE than the original price that was higher than the product was labeled...It was labeled $5.99, the cashier rang it up as $6,99, and she tried to cancel the transaction and ring it up as $7.99. I told her to go look at the shelf because everything over there was labeled with the lower "incorrect" price so she should honor it. She said it's not her fault it was mislabeled and she would have to chat with whomever mislabeled them. Any other business would've charged me the price that they labeled the item instead of trying to rip me off because of their mistake. After I made my purchase, the owner continued to be nasty and kept repeating "Have a nice day, ma'am" sarcastically while making a shooing motion with her hand. I was waiting for my fiance who was making a purchase after me and she didn't want me in her store any longer. She is a nasty, vile, trash woman who should not be allowed to interact with humans. This place is a total ripoff. I went in there in a rush, and bought (4) 35 packs of Poland springs water, and 2 sleeves of ice. $89.50!!!! They charged $10.99 (plus deposit) for each case of water ($5.99 across the street or in any other distributor), and $$17.00 for each sleeve (5 bags) of ice. I cannot believe the reviews I am reading. This place is great! Not sure why people are saying the prices are high, if anything, they are fair. What do you expect in Northport Village, rent and taxes are ridiculous. The owner is awesome. She is always smiling, is a charm to chat with and knows her beer. Why wouldn't you want her to take her job seriously? Would you rather have someone behind the counter that knows squat and is a wine connoisseur. Anytime a friend from out of town is over I bring them here so they can select whatever brew they want, this place has it all, including kegs. The only negative is that they close early on Sunday, so make sure you have enough brews on tap to make it through the late afternoon games. read more
