Dempsey's Brewery and Pubs nails that authentic Irish atmosphere so well, you half-expect a leprechaun to pinch your pint while you're not looking. The warm wooden digs and lively vibe make it a proper escape in Watertown, SD, though the only drawback is the constant buzz of chatter drowning out what should be some good ol' Dropkick Murphys tunes. I was particularly impressed by the great pastrami on homemade rye--tender, tangy meat stacked high on fresh-baked bread that could make even a New Yorker do a happy jig. Their bartenders are absolute gems, slinging drinks and banter with the charm of seasoned storytellers who somehow remember your name after one visit. One quirky touch is how the floors creak underfoot, like they're gossiping about all the pints spilled before you. We stopped to have lunch on way to SF. Waitress , Emily, usually works bar, served us with a smile and cheerful attitude. I order a pizza with capicola ham and pineapple. Sooooo good! Dempsey's is a Watertown stalwart for places to go eat and catch up with people. This place has been around for a bit and everyone is familiar with the quality of the food and specifically their pies. During the stint back in Watertown I didn't make as many trips to Dempsey's as I normally would but the quality of the food hasn't dropped. It's always nice when you walk in you can smell pizza being baked in their oven (s). I usually land on their Dempsey's Classic that has Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Green peppers, Black Olives, Baby Bella Mushrooms. I usually ask for them to add another 3 mins of cook time for the extra crispy and ensure the middle of the pizza is fully cooked. They have a variety of other unique pizza's to taste but I usually go with their Classic. They also have a variety of their own in-house brews that's always changing along with their standard taps. If anyone is ever visiting Watertown definitely add Dempsey's as a go to place to try out. read more

Stop 1 of 10 for SD, stop 16 ytd, on our Hundreds of Hops self-guided US Hop Passport Brewery Tour (Amazing Brewery Race) We came in as a party of 2, within an hour of opening, for our BOGO Hop Passport beer and a pizza. The greeting was less than enthusiastic but not rude. We were seated at a 4-top & given menus. I'd describe the table service as robotic. I thought the finishing salt was a nice touch on the pizza, we went with the 12" Earl of Wales. It wasn't overly salty or soggy. We found both the food and the beer to be good & the prices were reasonable. They missed taking off for one beer, but quickly fixed it at check out. I believe it was an innocent mistake. We left satisfied with our choices, overall. By the time we were leaving, it was rather busy. It appears to be well -liked by the locals. read more

I ordered the ribeye for 25+$ on DoorDash. Asked the cook to be rare to medium rare. It came well done, tough as a hockey puck. Barely even warm. Ordered side salad with 2 different dressings and it came with ranch instead. There was nothing right about my order today. This is too bad because we frequent this place. Literally zero stars. Best pizza I've had in a while. The crust is on another level and the ingredients are ultra fresh and tasty. The creations are *chefs kiss.* Angry Dragon. This pie is angry indeed. Fire will be steaming from all your orifices. However, I couldn't resist the goodness of this beauty. Not only are the specialty pies good, but the create your own pies are just as good. The service from sitting at the bar was top notch! We went here and it was packed, people were waiting in line to get seated. The food here was pretty good! We had the 12oz ribeye with garlic mash, and chilli, le Champion pizza. The ribeye was 4/5 really good cooked medium rare, just needed a little more warmth and color to it on outside. The pizza was thin crust, and was delicious! There's plenty of parking around the area! Reasonably price! read more

The pizza was excellent and the service good if not a little over-attentive; however, the restroom had been seriously neglected for some time, but worst of all, the beer was absolutely horrible. I had the flight and all four beers were insipid, watery, and flat, reminiscent of beer that's kept long beyond its drinkable life (although I doubt that's the actual problem here). As a fan of craft beer and small breweries, I reluctantly advise others to skip this one. read more

Pretty cool atmosphere i'm assuming it was an Irish theme. Definitely had some unique pizzas and a European cuisine on the menu . Ate here several years ago while on a family trip to Redfield. The food was great as was the service. Now, back in town again, we headed right back to Dempsey's! It's such a happy day when a place you spoken to others about and looked forward to visiting again does not disappoint! We tried it again two times after this review. Both times the service was horrible. The last time my husband ordered Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs on a Sunday morning. The waitress said " nope, order something else" My husband ordered nothing because he couldn't choose something that fast and the waitress was obviously not interested in taking or order. Another member of our table got biscuits and gravy and the gravy was missing untill the last 5 minutes of our meal. If there is one thing negative about this place...it's the wait staff service. Our waitress seemed a little (lot) pre-occupied with something other than us. (no they were not that busy...it was after 1pm). Still, not bad service, just that we have had better. Food was good, although I was a little disappointed in the menu selections...fairly limited menu items if you're not a pizza or salad eater. The place itself is pretty cool....rustic Irish Pub. (not sure if they still do this, but once ate there for supper and they actually had a guy playing bagpipes...pretty cool) Total tab for 3 (plus tip)...around 60 bucks...pretty average. Next time I will have to try to make it for supper. (if I remember correctly, they had pretty good prime rib the last time I was here.) Looking forward to my next visit. read more

We stopped in after some shopping. Plenty of customers makes you think you're in the right place. Lots of flags hanging from the ceilings giving you something to look at. Waitress was helpful in helping pick my beer from their brew list. Also recommended the spinach and artichoke dip! Oh, my fantastic! We felt like the bread was likely''homemade' to. Not many quality choices in Watertown but this was a pleasant surprise. The pizza is better then ANYTHING I have found in Kansas City! Great crust, wood fired about 80% of the tables had pizza. I had the supreme sub onion for black olives--cooked perfectly. Thin crust and delicious. Home made root beer better than any Pepsi product and served correctly without ice but a cold glass-great flavor. The spinach dip also incredible but very rich. Home made bread served with it also very good. Burgers look good but pizza is king at Dempseys - great value will not disappoint. One question- you do so much so well why Pepsi products? GO COKE! Why generic ketchup? GO HEINZ Also consider home made Coleslaw Do you hand cut your French fries...you should Almost cost you a star but the pizza is that good! The food was so scrumptious and I even had enough leftovers to take home and use as a whole meal when I got home! The service was great and everyone was super nice but it did take quite a bit of time for us to get our bill and to go box. So stopped back by Dempsey's on my way home from North Dakota. It's my favorites Irish pub in Watertown! I ordered the fat bear burger which had ham, bacon, pulled pork, with a 1/2 lb beef patty. The pulled pork on the burger was extremely dry and had to eat with the burger. Might suggest saucing it with the bbq prior to putting it on the burger. Other than that the burger was pretty good. I ordered onion rings as my side and they were cooked perfectly and had that great beer battered flavor. Can't wait for my next trip through to eat here again! read more

Stopped in on a Friday evening after work and found this lovely gem in Watertown. Got a seat on the large sized patio and tried some of the in-house drinks. The Battleaxe Blonde was okay but nothing of note when thinking of a Midwest Pilsner. The Summer Pountine was loaded up with pulled pork and melted cheese (see photo) and was definitely a stomach filler. We also decided to try a few of the speciality pizzas. The crust is a nice light dough with the perfect amount of salt; really enjoyed the incredible Reuben styles and pulled pork bbq (days away) pizzas. Oktoberfest Pizza from Dempsey Brew Pub -spicy brown mustard, diced bangers, red onions, sauerkraut, lingonberry dollop. This pizza was fantastic. I loved the combination of flavors. More pizza places need to have sauerkraut as a topping choice. I enjoyed dipping the crust in the lingonberry that fell off the pizza. This pie is easily in my top 10 favorite pizzas of all time. Dempseys is a great place, come here whenever in Watertown on business. This trip was not the best I've had, so it knocked them down a star. Ordered an appetizer and a supreme pizza. Ordered the app first, and the pizza probably 5-10 minutes later. Should have waited until the app arrived before placing the pizza order. App never came. A pizza did and tasted great. Could have used a bit more time in the oven, crust was great at the edge, but the center was a soggy, good tasting mess. To their credit, they comped us the app, which somehow took longer than the pizza in the oven, and boxed it to go for us. Other than that, service was great, will definitely come back. read more

Stopped here with a coworker for supper tonight. The hostess and waitress were both very polite and attentive. It didn't seem like there were as many issues plaguing this restaurant as has hit lots of restaurants. The waitress answered my question about beers knowledgeably and got our food out quickly. We get pizza here every chance we get to pass through town. A day away and the angry dragon are our favs.

The server was fantastic. every other portion of my meal was a failure. They didn't use marble rye bread. Or any type of rye bread. Cold sauerkraut, cold pastrami, cold cheese. The dressing was applied directly to the bread as opposed to being underneath the cheese to prevent the sandwich from getting soggy . Cook must not have known how to make a Reuben, my french fries were even served cold. I assume everything was cold because they put the wheat bread in a toaster and added the sandwich fixings. They must not have known that it was supposed to be heated throughout on the griddle . Don't go there and order a Reuben. Do go there and look at my server. She was the only reason I left a review. Pizza!!!! I hadn't had Dempsey's pizza in a few years and ended up having some reservations about it at that time. Too greasy if I remember right. But holy moly, what a turn around. Dempsey's is doing pizza RIGHT! My wife likes regular ol' pepperoni and I decided to try their hawaiian pizza (I know, pineapple, but you know what? Shhh).
