I was with my father, who has dementia, while he got a filling. Dr. Clagett was very gentle and spoke clearly to my father to help him understand what was happening and what he needed my father to do. He also did his best to minimize my father's physical discomfort and kept him in the chair only as long as was necessary. My mother has said previously she likes going to them, and now I see why.

The hygienist (a woman that is a weathered ol dog that you can tell does not want to be doing teeth anymore) used a very exasperated tone of annoyance that she was going to have to do extra work on my teeth due to my lack of dental care and she was going to charge me extra for a deep clean. I said "why are you going to do that? I get my teeth cleaned every 6 mos." She didn't apologize, just said oh and asked if I had moved and then she moved on. The reason for my bad review is that I have asked for my $60 to be refunded 5 times in the past 1.5 years. I didn't even realize they had my money until my first visit back and they were talking about that deep clean as if that $60 would cover that!! They charged me too much to put my bottom retainer back on and they have held onto my money for what must be 5 years now at minimum. I've asked fora refund in person 3 times. I've asked by phone twice. They will NOT relinquish my money. They tell me they have submitted it to corporate. Who is corporate? Can I contact them myself? They will tell me nothing. So now I'm going escalating.

As time passed I noticed no new awards were added. That's pretty consistent with how my treatment went. Cleanings are pretty bare bones and done quickly. I was typically in and out in 20 minutes. Some times I would see the doctor, other times they were not available. There are two big downsides to this office. Communication and organization During cleanings, I would never be told of any problem areas or concerns. If I spoke up I might get a little information, but it was like pulling teeth (couldn't resist). I can't fix things if I think everything is OK. Having a more open dialogue between patient and hygienist would be super beneficial in my opinion. As far as organization, at one point I was told I was like a year and a half late for x-rays. I don't keep track of such things, but was surprised it took so long for them to notice how far out of date my x-rays were. The only reason they even noticed was because their records were audited. I decided to move to True Dental in Odenton, which is much more thorough with other tools and technology. My first cleaning took almost an hour but my teeth have never felt cleaner. There were digital pictures shown to demonstrate exactly what they were seeing, points of concern, and many back and forth conversations throughout that were very helpful.

I was told I would need an implant and an idea of the cost of that implant. After the diagnosis, I had a full examination where other areas of care were needed."Just a few fillings and a special cleaning". I clearly stated that my insurance had a maximum, that the implant would likely take all of it and asked for a treatment plan price without insurance because I knew I would be well over the maximum benefit. I was told I would get a call. When they called, they gave me pricing and was told I now needed a root canal (not included in the pricing) which wasn't mentioned in the exam. I asked that they give me the pricing per visit and I didn't get a call. I called them and was told I could pick up my pricing at the office and the total cost was almost $2000 WITHOUT the price for the root canal or the implant......I'm not even mad about the pricing......people have to eat. What I am mad about is when I did call to schedule these appointments and asked that they not do the special cleaning (saving me $600), I was told they couldn't change the treatment plan and would not do the fillings without the cleaning. When I said, if you are telling me you won't do the fillings without the cleaning, then I will have to find another dentist.......the receptionist said, "okay" and hung up on me. The whole experience really left me feeling like they were primarily interested in tacking on as much to the bill as they could with absolutely no disregard for how much a $2000 treatment plan + a $2500 root canal/post and crown + $4500 implant costs to an average person when your insurance will only cover $1500.

I've been working with him and his amazing staff for several years now and I couldn't be more at ease there. They are always kind and non-judgemental. The technology they use makes the numbing process nearly painless which is a huge bonus. He and his staff always take their time and I never feel like they're rushing to get to the next patient. They take the time to explain each procedure and involve me in the prioritization process. The billing department went out of their way to save me money and scheduled all of my needs on a timeline that best utilized my deductible. EVERYONE I have encountered there is warm, welcoming and clearly loves working there. Most importantly, the dental work they provide is spectacular. To the reviewer who gave them 2 stars because they charged a no-show fee, a no-show cost them far more than $25. I've never been to any medical office that didn't charge at least $25 for a no-call no-show. I would hope that anyone in the market for a new dentist will base their decision on the quality of work and care, not someone's annoyance at being charged a completely reasonable fee.
