I had a tooth extracted here about 1 year ago. Well that extraction took over 2.5 hours, and I was not fully numb. This was the most traumatic dental experience I have ever had. After two and a half hours of Dr. Clayton Mccarl trying to extract my tooth, he finally finished. I have been in pain ever since. I went multiple times for follow up and was told everything was healing as it should despite my sore and red gums. After four months from when the extraction and bone graft was done, I still was not healed. My gums around the area were red and sore still. I later consulted an oral surgeon who had to remove bone graft particles that were lodged in my tissue. I truly believe something went wrong here that has damaged me long term. Everything in this office is top of the line. I went twice and it was very impressive. However, I will not return. I went (with a coupon) for a cleaning and regular checkup and left in tears with a Treatment Plan Estimate of $7761.00. I was told I needed a sleep study, "DNA Appliance" and seven multiple surface fillings. Invisalign was recommended as well. The fillings alone were $1900. I couldn't pay for any of this so the receptionist gave me information for Care Credit. I'm so glad I got a second opinion. My current X-rays show no cavities at all. Not a single filling needed. My new dentist disagreed with the DNA appliance and felt that Invisalign would be a completely unnecessary waste of money. If you have the money, go for it. If not, I recommend getting a second opinion before having any work done at this practice. Update: The response below from the office has only reassured me that my instincts were absolutely right. Still cavity free here, but thank you for risking a HIPAA violation to try turning things around. read more

A coworker of mine recommended Dr. Dave to me after a not so great experience I had with a previous dental office. I was looking for a second opinion to see if I really do need a root canal plus I was in the market for a new dentist as I really wasn't too thrilled with my current. Dr. Dave listened to all of my concerns and answered all of my questions. I didn't feel rushed and his office really made me feel taken care of. The front office staff was pleasant and easy to work with in scheduling/paperwork. After my root canal (which was done at a different place), I had to go back to get the filling put in. The procedure was so quick and painless. I feel very confident that I have found a dental office that I will be at for the long haul. I love Dr. Clayton he is like an angel. Seriously. My only and I stress only gripe is that they don't take insurance. I don't blame them. Theyre that good. They deserve the money they get. They will work with your insurance though to help cover some of the cost. I've also never had a bad experience here. They always make sure I'm calm and numb before they do anything. The nurses are great. They remember little things about me that I am surprised by. They are very good and personal with their patients. I never have a super long wait. Dr. Clayton and the entire staff were very friendly and accommodating through a challenging ordeal. No one likes going to the dentist but my wife (the patient) is in a whole different category of fear/ hate/ resistance and avoidance due to a traumatically bad experience with another dentist in her past. Saturday the 13th in the afternoon... The day before Valentine's ... On a three day weekend for many people... She had a dental emergency, one that could not wait until Tuesday. In a panic we called our (former) regular dentist and left messages and then began calling around to businesses that claim to be "emergency dentists." Saying things of understanding emergency events don't always happen during normal hours. And amazingly to me in the Baltimore Washington area there are places 7 days a week, 24 hours a day... That I can gat care for my dog having a dental emergency... But apparently the same is not true for people. (We even tried two different 1-800 referral services with no luck. ) Both the wife and I calling it turned out each of us had called and left messages with McCarl dental. She had called their Green Belt location and I had called Millersville. For all the calls made and messages left. Over 30.. Two of the three that were returned were from McCarl group. I'll start by saying. I believe i suffer from a little dentophobia. Probably my first time to the dentist in a decade. I've just suffered through. Well, it's caught up. Had a extraction, and was given a plan of action. Was asked multiple times about any questions i might have. Did i mention they took me in, within 2 hours of me calling? This is only based on 1 visit, but I don't see why any other visit would be any different. Clayton McCarl was amazingly friendly, understanding, and thorough. His assistant who i hate i can't remember her name, was also friendly, seemed very compassionate about patients overall health. I'll just say, everyone i encountered was very friendly, and helpful. Best dentist I have ever gone to. Dr. Dave McCarl is gentle, listens well and has fixed a lot that was wrong with my teeth. He has accomplished extensive work and it has been the best dental experience of my 68 years. He fitted me with an appliance to wear at night for sleep apnea and it has helped a great deal with my quality of sleep. I didn't know how bad I was until I see how much better I can be. I have been a patient at the McCarl Dental Group for years and came to believe all dental care was this good. However, I recently visited another dental office when I was away at college and I will never schedule another appointment with anyone else again! I have seen both Dr. Jay McCarl and Dr. Clayton McCarl for years, both always remember my name, my family, and always remember to ask about school and my life. I feel welcome here and I feel like I am more than just a name on a chart. I was in the office to see Dr. Jay last week and he was extremely careful and precise with the two fillings I received. He even took pictures of my cavities with his super fancy dental tools and displayed them up on the tv in the room so I could see exactly what the problem was and how he was going to fix it. Seeing things with my own eyes helped me understand exactly what was going on in my mouth. He actually took the time to talk me through what was going to happen so that there would be no surprises. Beth at the front desk is amazing and she was willing to work with my hectic school schedule to create appointments that worked for me!
