I continue to be astounded by Denmark. Their cocktail quality is absolutely A+. The bartenders clearly care about the drinks, and it shows in the freshness of their ingredients, how they pour, and even the pre-chilled drinkware. Every drink is made with intention, and even when I order a "classic", it's clear it's made with attention to detail. All of this while being on-par or cheaper with most of the Short North bars. Astoundingly cheaper than any of the rooftop locales. Seating is plentiful. You order at the bar and take your drink to sit wherever you'd like. Most of the seating/decor looks like it's from IKEA, but it's clean, modern, and comfy, and it's great for enjoying your drinks as you converse with friends. Denmark's vibe is very heavily "enjoyed high-end, balanced flavors in the company with friends and people you love to talk to". This is not a place to come to "pregame" for later activities. If you're on your own adventure, they have a small bookshelf full of cocktail nerdery (not just recipe books) including balance points for temperature and ice for perfect cocktail flavors. The cocktail menu is an adventure you will want to never leave. Quick description: Beautiful venue. Passionate curator bartenders who are very knowledgeable and fun to spend time with as you enjoy their craft. Exquisite menu. Almost overwhelming - but you realize you can trust every single option is divine and simply work your way through the menu. You will not regret your visit. We stopped in soon after they opened at 5pm for 2 cocktails before an early dinner reservation a few blocks away. We were greeting heartily and enjoyed talking with the guys while our first round was made. We wisely chose to also have a small snack and the options here are quite good. A lovely bowl of seasoned nut mix was perfect for us but there are several small plate options to choose - including a small or large charcuterie board. After dinner a few blocks away, we stopped for a night cap and made our way through the cocktail menu with a total daily count of '8' here between the 2 of us. And with the recent closure of Mouton, where will non beer guzzling folks like myself go for a well thought out and in season cocktail, not a White Claw or PBR? Well this is the place. This is a pretty dope cocktail lounge. It's in a prime location, making it really easy to get to and I'm honestly surprised it took me so long to get here for a drink. It's located right off High St. across from the Convention Center and it's on the second floor. Once you make your way up the staircase, your greeted with a rather large, open space. The bar can be found directly ahead with plenty of seating to the right near the giant windows that face the street. The décor is modern and sleek and there's a mix of comfy lounge seating and tables. The lighting is somewhat romantic and you definitely get a good vibe while you're here. The cocktail menu is rather large and ranges from whiskey drink to vodka drink (gosh, now I'm singing chumbawamba in my head) and everything in between. They also made a lot of the syrups they use in house, which is pretty special. Both times I've visited Denmark the staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. I like to ask the staff for drink recommendations because after all, they're the experts, and they definitely pointed me in the right direction. The most recent drink I got had gin and concord grape. Very inviting space with comfy chairs and lounging area and a large bar. The bartender on staff at the time was super sweet and explained their menu and gave me her recommendations... I heard many good things about Denmark. It's not so easy to find since it's on the second floor of a building. The bar served up some of the best drinks in Columbus for real. It's not a cheap place but they do have an okay happy hour. The bartenders are professionally trained and not the usual wankers you find in dive bars. I knew that Denmark would not be the usual bar because of the location and reputation. It's located up above the Bareburger restaurant. The bartenders here were all very knowledgeable about mixing cocktails. It was so refreshing to not encounter anyone who didn't know what goes in a martini. The drinks are more expensive here, but in many ways it's worth it. If you want a better value they have a fairly good happy hour. This is from 4 to 6:30 Mondays to Saturdays. It's the best deals around on Saturdays and of course it gets slammed. They are very good cocktails, so it makes up for it. I would go to Denmark a lot more often were it not as costly. It has done of the best looking and tasting cocktails in a city full of modern bars. The atmosphere is a nice way to impress someone. read more

He was right--perfect spot to hit up for drinks with small group of people who all want different things to drink. Denmark is located on the second floor, so you almost miss the entrance when walking down the street. Very cozy lounge with a mix of soft seating or seats at the bar. They have a great cocktail list--you can tell they know their drinks and offer more than a cosmopolitan. One person in our group was not crazy about her first drink. When the server came back, he asked her what type of drink she liked (flavors, alcohol, strength, etc.) and made a custom cocktail for her that she loved. Great service. Great drinks. Lovely little cocktail lounge with a very unique menu! I love visiting places like this where conversation is encouraged while you wait for your drink. They had a variety of seating options from the bar to cozy lounge chairs to chairs and tables with a view of the street. I loved the large windows. We stopped in before a CBJ game the weekend of Halloween. I loved the option to sit right up against the windows looking over the street. It was not busy when we got there (around 5 pm on a Saturday) but by time we left, it was quite the happening place to be! We were seen immediately to get our orders. They had what appeared to be a special menu for Halloween so even if I could remember our drinks, I don't know if they'd still be there. My friend ordered a mule of some sort that she really enjoyed and I had something with activated charcoal which was also very tasty. We also split a charcuterie board (small) which was a perfect pre-(hockey) game snack. All of the meats and cheeses were delicious and we appreciated their add of a homemade mustard. After the first round, we wanted to order shooters but it took awhile for someone to come around to us. After we got her attention and ordered, we quickly asked for our checks. I appreciated the at-the-table technology to take our credit cards right there on whatever device she had. It helped us get in and out quicker! I would absolutely return. I loved the higher end feel of this while still remaining pretty casual. I didn't feel at all out of place in my CBJ hoodie and jeans. Denmark is my favorite cocktail bar in town. First of all, it's conveniently located within stumbling distance of me in the Arena district. Secondly, their cocktails are top-notch. Thirdly, the atmosphere is modern and classy without being overly stuffy or pretentious. Columbus has numerous cocktail bar offerings. Curio, Sidebar and Mouton are just some worth mentioning. For me, Denmark stands out from the aforementioned bars due its more relaxed atmosphere while still serving some of Columbus' best cocktails. I've tried numerous cocktails from Denmark and they have all been excellent. I'm a sucker for Whiskey Sours, so I love their Whiskey Flower, which is a floral twist on the classic. I've also had their Pecan Old Fashioned which is good too. They also have numerous snacks including flatbreads, spreads and cheeses. Overall, it's the combination of atmosphere and drinks that keeps me coming back to Denmark. There's plenty of bar and table space, so it never feels too crowded. The atmosphere is pretty laidback and the noise level is appropriate. It's also open 6 days a week, as opposed to other cocktail bars. It's not a bad date spot! ;) It's also a good place to people watch along High Street and the convention center. read more

I went here on a Friday evening around 7pm and it wasn't too packed. My 2 friends and I sat on one of the open tables (not the bar). I immediately loved the whole feel and ambiance of the place. It reminds me of an upscale lounge with relaxing chairs and upbeat music. It was hard for me to find the entrance so if you get lost just ask the restaurant below. There is a door outside that you use to walk up to the bar. Once inside, we were greeted and given menus. The staff was very friendly and nice. There are little bites to eat and a full drinks menu. I can't remember the name of the cocktail I ordered but it was sweet and had berries inside. OVERALL - great atmosphere, friendly staff, not too crowded, tasty bites to eat, and fun hangout spot. read more

Denmark is a cool place. It's kind of "secret," it's above Bareburger and it's sort of mingled in with an office space. Very hipster vibe. The drinks are great. You can tell that the staff really take pride in their work. They're not cheap, but they're also not prohibitively expensive. This is a fun spot to meet with friends for a few drinks and peoplewatch the crowds wandering past the convention center. Menu changes seasonally. Popped into Denmark today, Saturday, at around 2PM for a quick cocktail with a friend of mine on a break we had from a session at the Arnold Sports Festival. By the looks of it they had just opened (we were only the second group in there) - but the service was quick to reach us, and we found out it was HAPPY HOUR! (who doesn't love happy hour!) We got the 3-local-snacks plate.. these portions were larger than expected. With a little discount thanks to happy hour the pretzels, mixed nuts, and parm chips tasted great. Nice little snack you should definitely try. The appropriate amount of saltiness with a drink. For my drink I had something I can't remember the name of - but it had rum and coconut cream in it (it was in the "best of the best" section of the menu) - purple and creamy. Delicious, smooth, kinda fruity but not overly sweet. I really enjoyed it. Overall, great value, great service, really convenient location - cannot recommend Denmark highly enough! read more

Denmark is a delightful place to have some fancy cocktails made by pro mixologists and have a conversation with someone without yelling in each others' ear. The bar is located on the second floor of the building. I was able to walk here from my place, but if you are driving, plan on street parking and walking a couple blocks. There is a lot of construction going on the same street as well. My coworker and I tried the Pear-A-Dise cocktails. This drink lived up to its name! It tasted amazing, strong from the hard liqueur, topped with semi-sweet foam and had the integrity of the pear flavor. The only gripe I have was my Pear-A-Dise cocktail did not have a pear wedge finish like my friend's cocktail. I didn't make it a big deal, but the drinks were handed to us as if no one would notice that only one of the drinks had a pear wedge. I suggest keeping it consistent if the same drinks are ordered at the same table! read more

Disappointed with the service here. I came here with several co-workers and no one waited on us upon entry. One of my colleagues went up to the bar and told the bartender we needed service...And it took another 15 min to get our orders taken. He did apologize for the delay, but here's the rub: it took another 20 minutes for the drinks to come out. Now I know what you're thinking...The place must've been packed right? But there was literally 7 ppl in the bar on a Monday night. There's no justification at all for that type of wait to get noticed. I understand that the drinks are a labor of love in places like these...which is why prompt service is critical. So we waited about 35 minutes to get a drink in a place that was dead. If they were the best cocktails ever I'd give them a 4 star rating; and frankly if Yelp offered 1/2 stars I would give them 3.5. But rounded down b/c by the time we did receive service, the waiter didn't do much apologizing. Not saying he wasn't nice, he was just flippant about our wait. I would never dissuade anyone from going here by the way. If the drinks came out quicker, this would definitely be a 4 star establishment. read more

Another unexpected gem of a place. I say this, and I am also fully aware that staff and cocktails can change at anytime. However, the staff here (currently) and the cocktails coming out of here were quite phenomenal. Alyssa and Chad had some of the most hospitable and approaching personalities as anyone would hope for a craft bar or in hospitality in general. After the Bluejackets game we decided to stop by Denmark to grab a cocktail and check the place out. Other reviewers have described it better, but the ambiance of Denmark certainly feels like that of an upscale, metropolitan cocktail bar. The staff is friendly, but although there is a view of North High Street and the convention center, don't expect to come to Denmark and do much in the way of people watching. With its position on the second floor, you can't really look straight down, so you're looking across to the convention center which doesn't have a lot of foot traffic. Compared with, say, Union, there's not as much of a view. Also, it can be difficult to find a seat next to the window, so be prepared for that. Overall I found the quality of the cocktails to be superb - far better than most establishments in Columbus, so I'm giving it a 4 based on that. Also, if you're friends want cocktails but you're more of a beer/wine person, they have a reasonably priced and decent selection of beers to choose from. I would still like to try the food, and some of the other cocktails - so I plan on going back. read more

Columbus, your newest hidden gem has arrived! Full disclosure: I haven't had the complete Denmark experience just yet, but I wanted to share my excitement anyway. I'm hosting a 40th bday partay (heyyy) in a week for a friend, and the space I needed was proving to be impossible to find. Something very adult, but still appropriate for a few kids... not a bar, but has alcohol... and is centrally located in a walking neighborhood. Yeah, we're taking about a unicorn. Well let me introduce you to Denmark - a unicorn. I had heard of Denmark's "secret space," and I was intrigued. I came by tonight to see the space, and it's perfect. So here's the scoop here: Picture it... on street level is Bareburger. Immediately to the right is a door. In the door is a set of stairs that leads to an amazing lounge and bar... that's Denmark! And then if you go to the basement (below Bareburger)... that's the secret space! The upstairs bar and lounge are beautiful and open - very swanky, but casual. The drinks are classic cocktails exquisitely crafted. And the food is all small plates of meats, cheeses, salads, and flatbreads. Just a note: there's a lot or duck on the menu. Down in the basement at the secret space is a wine store, small bar, and a private party room - that's where we'll be! It's beautiful and easily customized based on your needs. I've only had a tour and one cocktail so far... but so far so good! It feels very much like a much much much bigger Mouton. I cannot wait to report back how the party goes! The only thing that rubbed me a little the wrong way was the attitudes of the bartenders. They weren't rude, but they were definitely a little "too cool to be nice." You know those people? They acted a bit like they were doing me a favor by fixing me a drink. But that's only a small gripe, and there's so much to love about this new business! read more

Denmark is by far one of the most visually appealing bars I've visited in the city. I love the modern style furniture and the second floor view of High St. is comforting after dark. The cushy chairs by the window gave the room a homey feel. I absolutely love that Denmark features local art throughout their space. Such a wonderful way to spread local love. I ordered the Old Pecan Fashioned and while the drink was pleasant, I can't say it met my expectations. Perhaps I'm naive to the drink naming game, but I expected to have a hint of pecan tease my palate while I sipped my bourbon based selection. I also didn't expect the bartender to reach down and pick up the ice by hand rather than with a utensil into each drink. Such a major turn off! As I sat there watching him clean up I was appalled at the notion that this dude is slinging drinks, cleaning dishes, wiping down equipment whilst touching the dang-on ice with his dirty hands. It also didn't help that the two employees were heavily involved in a personal conversation in front of me - hope you finally figured out your roommate situation bro! UGH.UGH.UGH. I have been eagerly anticipating my visit here for several months. Sadly it didn't meet my expectations. I can't say I won't go back, but I don't want to indicate that I will. "Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Columbus anymore..." That was cheesy, but seriously, as soon as you walk in, this place reminds you of a super trendy bar in New York's east village. Beautiful decor, and then the drinks happened...... Incredible. I had one Cider Punch (or maybe 2), and my girlfriend had one Alud Sang Syne Sangria (definitely 2). They were both incredible. The mixologists are encouraged to get weird and experiment here, and you can totally taste the ingenuity. It's quite smart actually. Since many of the items are made in-house, it definitely increases the urge for repeat visits. However, that didn't stop our bartender Derrick, who was amazing. My girlfriend and I both nerd out a bit about bartending, and not only did he make amazing drinks, he walked us through the entire process and was very attentive. Bonus points there. We also showed up on a Hai Pokè pop up day. More on that later, but if you find yourself hungry with $10 on a Tuesday or Thursday from 4p-9p, get you booty to Denmark and EAT!!!!!
