The themed menus which change at a reasonable pace, great staff, and "good vibes" really make this the go-to destination in Columbus and perhaps the Midwest for a cocktail. Pair a stop either before or after to one of German Village's great restaurants and you're in for a special, albeit pricey night. In addition to fantastic drinks, Lawbird offers cocktail tasting classes from time to time which are a fun way to get sauced early in the day. And you will get sauced. If the owners keep up the good thing they have going - this will become an iconic establishment in the city. I hope they do. I've been more than 20 times so far and never get bored. How wonderful! We stopped in this past weekend during the Japan pop-up! The inside is neon pink, full of cherry blossoms and beautiful decor. The service was great, everyone was extremely friendly. Another place that I've been to many many times but for some reason I've never reviewed. Law Bird is one of the best cocktail bars in Columbus. I love how innovative the menu is and how it is always changing. The MOMA menu was one of my favorites but the one they have currently is sooooo good. The staff is great, super friendly and great vibes. They also do fun little themed pop up events as well as cocktail classes which I find super cool and unique. Holy cow. Seven stars out of five. I don't drink very often. Not anymore anyway. But I enjoy a good beer, and a good cocktail. I've heard a lot about this place, but it never really seemed like my thing. And it wasn't open during the day so I couldn't get there as easily. Today, I had some time on a weekday evening, and stopped by. Street parking was scarce but available.The place is cozy in that Brewery District/German Village way. Lots of windows. Friendly, professional bartenders. I wasn't very hungry, which was fine because they only have a light food menu, small plates. I got the smoked salmon, expecting lox I guess. It was canned salmon, but very, very good canned salmon. Accompanied with very good crackers, and a great house made caper mayo. You can also get hot sauce and other sauces, but I went with the basics. Everything here is carefully curated, and all of the items on the tray went together perfectly. It was a nice snack or appetizer. A thing you might get if you came here for a drink and an app before you went somewhere else, or after going somewhere else. For me, tonight, it was just enough. And I debated getting a non-alcoholic cocktail, because some of them can be made that way, but the Swedish-inspired old-fashioned sounded great. I love rye, and all of the other ingredients just sounded right together, and sounded right with the salmon. And they were. Just exquisite. I'm not using that word lightly. This was an excellent cocktail, and an excellent duet of food and drink. With excellent service, in a comfortable atmosphere. Oh, and with good music playing. At least for me. The first two things I heard were Cake and POTUSA, and they kind of set the vibe for the rest of the visit. Expensive? Yes. Nestled in the Brewery District, this is treasure for hip new restaurants. I love the idea of craft cocktails. You walk in and are greeted by the friendliest hosts that immediately show you a menu. You can order and ask questions before you are seated. Big tables that are shareable between small and large groups. Very clever drinks that each has its distinct glass. They serve food but great place to grab a cocktail (or two) before hitting your restaurant. We need one of these near my town. Highly recommend. read more

I love TF out of Law Bird, and I love everything they're doing. I have a few qualms about their reservation time limit (which, I will admit, are almost entirely based on the fact I want to try MORE of what they're offering), but I readily recommend this place to people as one of the coolest cocktail bars in town. Cocktail vibe is more "laid-back friends talking over creative drinks" than sultry, romantic date spot. Tons of natural light means this cocktail bar has had some of my *favorite* cocktail bar photos I've ever taken. It's so pretty in here. NOTES: -During pop-ups, walk-ins are near-impossible on weekends and not likely on weekdays. Make a reservation if you want to make sure you'll have a spot. -No dedicated parking lot. 3-hour-limit free residential parking all around Law Bird, though. We generally have to walk 2 or 3 blocks from parking to Law Bird. Be aware this is German Village, and you're looking at cobblestone sidewalks for high heel and accessibility purposes. -Law Bird mostly has small party seating. If you have a larger group you want to seat during a pop-up, make SURE to get that reservation in early. They have the single 8-person table. -They have snackies and food. Portion sizes are small (despite what the prices may suggest), though, so this is not generally a place to eat a full meal. All of the food is super flavorful, though, so definitely a great snack to add on. PROS: -Keeping things fresh, they regularly host cute seasonal events, new drinks, and pop-up events. In recent memory, I know they've done a Cherry Blossom one, a Spooky Halloween one, and a Christmas one. -They go ALL OUT for their pop-ups. It isn't just a brand new, professionally-printed menu (no pieces of paper with 4 seasonal drinks here). It's also all of their interior decor, bathroom decorations, bartop decorations, and more. Ceiling decor too! They get all up in there. It's really fun to see the space transformed constantly. -Between the new menus and the constantly-new decorations of their space, I love regularly popping into Law Bird. -I LOVE the creativity of the menus, and I LOVE that they offer cocktail classes. (I haven't taken one yet, but I'm excited to!) The menu has unique drinks, served with unique garnishes. They have a few "sugar cocktails", but for the most part, Law Bird drinks tend to be complex and spirit-forward. -Their "themed" bathrooms (even with their own themed music playlists) make me happy. They have two unisex, single room restrooms. CONS: -If you come during a pop-up with a smaller group, they will enforce their reservation time limit of 1.5 hours. This isn't necessarily the end of the world, but the times when they enforce their limits is when they have more customers waiting - and tend to be when the place is at capacity. When they're at-capacity, the bar staff and service staff is a lot busier, with drink service taking longer and servers checking in a lot less. This means we usually only have had the chance to place 2 drink orders during that 1.5 hour time limit before they ask us to leave. This can be rough (to try most of the drinks on a limited time menu) unless you're sharing drinks with your tablemates. If you still want to continue your evening with your friends after that 1.5 hour limit, Antiques on High, Daily Growler, and Cobra are easily walkable from here. -During their pop-ups on weekends, time between placing a drink order and receiving the drink has usually been around 15 to 20 minutes. Not the end of the world as you get to socialize with friends, but again, with the time limit, that can be a bit rough. read more

They change up their cocktail menu often, sometimes featuring a seasonal or special theme, like their Sakura City pop-up each year that features Japanese whiskey and cherry blossom decor. Every drink is inventive and delicious, often with ingredients you don't find anywhere else and made with care each time. They have a limited menu of bar snacks, or small shareables, so it is the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks and a few bites before heading somewhere else for a full meal. This was our first time in and we attended one of their cocktail classes. This is a tasting series they do a few times a month, each with a different theme. We attended the Japanese Spirits/Cocktails. The owners run the class and lead you through the tasting experience as well as teaching you about the history and flavors. You get 3 half cocktails during the experience, all were fantastic. They also have some light snacks, which we really enjoyed the variety of Japanese snacks! I really wanted to love the Christmas tiki pop up they did this year. Was so looking forward to it. The service was horrible, they treat you as if you're on a conveyer belt. Only allow you 1.5 hours per reservation - understandable. It is an in demand experience. However, in that 1.5 hours our party only drank 2 cocktails each. The service was inexplicably slow, only saw our server twice to order drinks. Until it was time for the check. Our hour and a half was almost up and we saw 3 employees hovering over our table. They rushed the check, rushed clearing, could not get us out fast enough. Used to love this place. It has amazing cocktails. They either staffed horribly wrong or the servers/owners genuinely do not care about patrons. Sadly this experience will most likely keep me from going back ever. read more

Situated on a quiet corner at the edge of the German Village, this little neighborhood bar is set up in a historic building and well-poised to hold its own among other high-caliber bars on High Street. Often full but rarely overflowing, Lawbird's creative and oft-reinvented menus keep a cultured crowd coming back for more, with crafty themes and a handful of mainstays that maintain a sense of familiarity for those who like to dip in from time to time to bask in the rosy neon glow -- my personal favorites are the $5 mini martini (they default to an olive, but I always order them with a twist) and the Dole Whip. There is no happy hour but with prices as reasonable as these, that's just fine. Limited food and snacks are available, and while parking can sometimes be a pain (street only) it's often free so long as you can find a spot among the brick jungle that is this block of the city. I wish I knew about the venue; the seasoned wooden floors tell a story that stretches back before the bar, but time is entitled to its secrets. It is enough to simply enjoy the place as it is now and enjoy excellent drinks, good company, then move on to the next destination of the night. Where next? Who knows. This is one place that attracts people to GV besides the history and the requisite visit to the Book Loft among other places. It's definitely the place that makes you feel cool and hip for having attended it and feeling a little superior when people haven't heard or know but haven't the chance to go. Lawbird offers regular seating, bar seats, and even seats by the counter. I don't know if strictly allowed, but a couple times I've brought food from the food trucks at Antiques on High and eaten here while having a cocktail. Lawbird does offer small plates, and they're pretty good. I've had the pickled veggies and the feta/hummus and pita. I've not tried the hot dogs (would have to be the vegetarian option. Because I am a bourbon girl, I also had an Angels Envy. Their bourbon selection was bleak but the experience was still good because of their fantastic staff. This place has a nice quaint almost tiki feel to it but not wanting to be boxed in it also gives nice laidback vibes as well. The staff are casual but helpful and though it was busy when we arrived we were served everything pretty briskly. The food menu is not your typical bar food and it intrigues for sure but the flavor matches the intrigue we were well satisfied. Tips to make your visit a success: 1) Go wild with the drinks. Now I'm not talking quantity here but rather quality. Some drinks on the menu may add ingredients that you are not used to or are even unsure go together. But trust the staff to steer you right and go wild and experiment. The drink concoctions they put together will make you happy tried something new. 2) Get dessert. Here they serve up dole whip which by itself is incredibly tasty but add in some alcohol and you have a dessert fit for an adult. Don't leave with out trying it with some of the flavor combinations they recommend. Try this place on your next night out or even as an after work wind down spot. The bartenders max and Tim were so lovely too, I had a blast as a solo visitor and they made me feel comfortable right away. I've been here a few times now love it so much we bought a house essentially next door. Joking... kinda. This place is awesome. Great cocktails and wine options (first time trying orange wine), and the food here is incredible and at a good value too. Harvey was our server each time we were here and he is great. Some highlights from our visits here... mini martini for just $5 (be prepared to order two -- so good), bougie hot dog nights on wednesdays, the best waffle fry dish I've ever had (though it's sadly no longer on the menu), and rad bathroom art. The menus rotate often which keeps it fresh and interesting but then you have to remember to not get too married to what you like. We are new parents so having an adults-only night has been hard to come by! We spent the first half of one of our first nights out at parents here, and I am so glad we did. We made it at the tail end of "snack time" their version of happy hour (4-6pm) and there were only a few available seats when we arrived around 530. We opted to sit at the bar, knowing we'd just have a couple drinks before dinner. The snack time menu was a selection of cocktails under $10 and some appetizers. We had the loaded fries and they were excellent. The food is innovative and fun just like the drinks. If you miss snack time they always have $5 mini martinis! I've had my eye on this place for a bit and I'm very glad I finally got to visit! Fun cocktail bar with a funky vibe. Waitstaff was welcoming and attentive. We went on a Wednesday, which apparently is gourmet hot dog night. Fun concept. Loved the Strawberry Fields dog, but we weren't a fan of the Wagyu dog which was the most expensive. The balsamic tasted a bit off and I'm not sure the toppings and condiments really went together. That could be personal preference, though. We ordered the burrata, as well and that was the real show stopper. Mozzarella was perfectly fresh and delicious. Loved everything about it. It did say on the menu that it came with toast which we didn't receive? I thought their apps seemed a little overpriced, but that's not my area of expertise. Just worth noting. I really enjoyed my visit in here the other day. We came late afternoon on a Saturday. It was poppin' but we were thankfully able to find a two top table in the back. The sunlight really livened the place. Its windows face west so it was very bright although slightly blinding. The decor and decoration was comfy and chic. Their menu is extensive. They serve cocktails, wine, sherry, sake, and even small plates and larger plates. We only got beverages this time around. Both were very good. The beverage descriptions are fun and playful. We kept our order at one drink a piece because them puppies were expensive. My fiancé's was $14. Mine was $11. Tasty but expensive. I would love to come back. I don't believe they have a happy hour but they do seem to have some constant deals going on (bottom of menu shot). Fingers crossed they incorporate some kind of happy hour. Since opening back up as a bar again, Law Bird has been PACKED, and good for them! Friendly service, fun poppy atmosphere, and always someone laughing at the bar. The drinks remain from their popup shop menu during the height of COVID, occasionally with some new ones. Primarily tropical notes in their beverages, FYI, but certainly not all tiki. The theme of throwing wild ingredients together into a concoction that turns out quite tasty is a recurring theme throughout their bevvies and their food. The full bar now offers a rotating menu of small bites and shareables. Two favorites of mine are their waffle fries with truffle honey and Brie and their French toast topped with a wild concoction of things, including blackberries, whipped cream, Nutella, and (I believe) honey and cinnamon. Delish. The menu is full of different choices that cater to a wide variety of palates, and I commend the chefs for their inventiveness. I don't know if the alchemy always works, and sometimes can be too much going on at once, but that sort of goes along with their slogan: Not Governed By Reason. Of course, what pleases one palate may not please another and vice versa, which actually works in their favor. I look forward to seeing what else they create, in libations and in plates! read more

I wish I tried this place sooner! Cool vibes and drinks and a Good location in German Village. The menus seem to change for the season plus they have rotating specials. This week was hot toddy week for $5! I tried the granddad toddy and it was almost perfect! Just wish it had been a little warmer and in a real cup. Very tasty though. I couldn't pass up trying the $5 mini martini either. It was cute but a little strong for me. Not something I would order again but I'm not a strong cocktail drinker. Lastly, I got a glass of rosé . I wish there were more options for wine by the glass. The rosé was very good though and came in a nice wine glass. The food menu I found to be difficult to decipher honestly. The ingredients were just very out of my realm of knowledge and I found it difficult to settle on anything. I wish they had a more snack friendly option or two that was less fancy. We settled on the chicharrones which is basically just pork rinds with a sauce. I was VERY underwhelmed by this dish, but it fit the bill of a crunchy snack to fill my belly along with all the alcohol. Definitely will be back for some wine or cocktails and to try another snack. Went to law bird for the first time last week with a group of friends. We've been in the area many times before but have never tried this place. The interior is very modern and classy. It's not a huge space but has many tables and a bar area. Probably not the best for large groups of 8-10+ like we had, but we were still able to make it work. They have some nice happy hour deals for food and drinks which we took advantage of. I ordered a margarita and my girlfriend got a pisco sour. Both were quite good and all of our friends enjoyed their drinks as well. The wait staff did a great job despite our group being so large and they even accommodated everyone doing separate checks. Amazing cocktails with a nice relaxed vibe! My girlfriend and I try to go here as often as possible (once or twice a month). Their current menu is eclectic and has no rhyme or reason. And if they are not in your wheelhouse, the classic cocktails are one of the best I have had in Columbus. Only once have I not liked my drink, and that was due to personal preferences (and I was warned, ppl either hate it or love it). The mixologists are very knowledgeable you can trust them with your drinks. Don't expect a quick service as most of the drinks are made fresh and that takes time. But it's always worth it! read more
