I'm truly sorry about the low rating, but I'm so pissed off after stopping at the winery today. Even though there was no event on the back patio, the owners had decided that the patio would be closed because it was "too hot and the air quality wasn't too good." We've been stopping at Dennis Drummond for years (in the summer only) and never had this problem in the past, although once we were told that they didn't want the staff going out to wait on us on the patio (no problem, since we grabbed our wine, glasses, and pretzels inside, paid for everything, and we didn't need anyone to wait on us). First, today's air quality was better than it has been earlier in the week (wildfires in Canada caused very smoky conditions for the previous two days). Second, we noticed two people sitting at a table outside in FRONT of the establishment--was the heat and air quality any better in front than in back? Third, in Minnesota, many of us LIVE for warm weather when we don't have to wear coats, boots, hats, etc. Fourth, this is a resort area, and we don't know of any other establishments with outdoor seating that won't allow patrons to sit outdoors, a fact we proved when we stopped at two other places after our disappointing stop at Dennis Drummond. Fifth, this place has NEVER been very busy when we've stopped there--can they really afford to turn away local business, or do they rely on people renting the place for events like weddings? For those of you familiar with the Brainerd Lakes area, can you imagine Ernie's, Zorbaz (both on Gull Lake), or Moonlight Bay (on Crosslake) refusing to allow guests to sit outdoors in the summer? That would NEVER happen. We had a gift certificate we were going to use, but now I don't know when we would ever use it. I'm still so mad I could spit. read more

Totally unexpected gem out in the country! We randomly went here while we were up north at the cabin and wanted to see if there were any wineries nearby. It was winter so we didn't get to experience the patio, but the tasting room was really cute and they have a ton of menu options. We had meatballs with crostini, a salmon sandwich, and the tater tot hot dish. The hot dish was the highlight as it featured a sort of curry flavor and was a cool take on a traditional item. Salmon was a hit with the Mr. as well. We liked the wines so much we took advantage of their case special and loaded up for the holidays. Definitely will be back next time we are up north! read more

Most wineries have mostly snacks, but here they have delicious and unique entrees from which to choose. The rose wine was wonderful. My husband had a smoked porkchop with German potato salad and kraut. I had beef and mushrooms in a gravy over mashed potatoes. It was difficult to decide what to eat because Swedish meatballs and tatter-tot hotdish sounded good as well. Their cheesecake and key-lime pie looked wonderful, but we were too full. After dinner, we were entertained by a fun band called Hillbilly Rock. The owners and staff were friendly and even got in a little dancing and fun. read more

This is a 'must stop' winery if you're in the Brainerd area! The wines are delicious with a nice selection but they have a large menu for meals. The food is amazing also. We had a lovely Mother's Day lunch at the Dennis Drummond Wine Company. The Drummond's were very friendly and welcoming. They went out of their way to make both my 10 year old and my 96 year old grandmother comfortable. The food was outstanding. My mom and I had the quiche lorraine which was a mother's day special. My grandmother had the tuna sandwich and a cup of tortilla soup. And my son had the chicken quesadilla made extra plain, just the way he likes it (they have a seasoned version too for the non ten year olds in the group). We had the cheesecake with Frontenac grape syrup for dessert. Dennis told us he got the grapes down the road from Fort Ripley. He will be making wine, including a Frontenac dessert wine in the fall! We were all pleasantly surprised with the experience as we just sort of decided to stop in on a whim driving by and we most certainly will be back! read more

It was a very cold Boxing Day!! We were the first to arrive on Tuesday. A really jovial gentleman was shoveling the front walkway. We found out it was Dennis , the owner himself!! Lee was our superb server!! Our food was delicious! The wine selection good and nice prices too! Lee gave us a walk about tour while our food was being cooked. It was our first time there.
