Tucked away, this spot offers a tranqual retreat to sip lovely fruit wine. They have a tasting room and a patio that can support small to medium sized groups. I always recommend starting with one of their pre-set flights, which give you a great idea of their various flavor profiles. Each flight is sorted by sweetness, which leaves something for everyone! Their wine style (entirely fruit based) is not for me, but like so many rural Minnesota wineries, you are here for the ambiance, not the wine. I do think if your social circle is ladies of a certain age, they would greatly enjoy the mostly off dry/ sweet options. Forestedge Winery is easy to find, right off a major road. Beautiful patio with lots of blooming flowers, shade trees, and umbrellas. All employees we encountered were masked and pleasant. When we approached the bar, we were offered a sheet with their pre-set wine flights listed: One Dry, two Semi-Dry, a Semi-Sweet, and a Semi-Sweet/Sweet. Each flight offered 5 one-ounce tastes. The set tastings were $8 each with $3 for individual tastes. A custom flight with 5 wines was listed for $12. Canned soda, water, cheese, crackers, pretzels, and two mixed cheese/meat trays were also available for purchase. My wife was tasting and as she prefers dry wines, she selected the pre-set dry flight. The flight, crackers, cheese curds, and my soda were delivered to us on the patio. We were surprised to see the tastes poured into plastic medicine cups given the price of the tasting. Not being able to aerate the wine or see the legs against glass was disappointing, plus wine tastes differently in plastic vs glass. My wife did not care, particularly, for the Aronia, Chokecherry, or Blueberry, and did not finish the one-ounce tastes. When the server checked with us, my wife mentioned that she prefers Cabernet and the server recommended the Black Currant - which my wife sampled for an additional $3. This was her favorite of all her tastes and the server offered a second flight with more similar wines - however at this point we were already in for $11 in tastings, none particularly good, and another $8 seemed excessive. It's unfortunate that the server didn't first explore with my wife what she likes to drink, especially since non-grape wines are not the norm. She would likely have chosen a different flight set and might have purchased a bottle or two. Nothing that she tasted was worth a purchase. A more experienced server might have noticed the undrunk tastes, explored my wife's preferences, and offered more appropriate - and complimentary - tastes. We have been to many wineries across the country and it's been our experience that they want to find something you like so you will buy their wine and return for more. Unfortunately, this seller seems to want to make their money from selling flights. One final note about this winery - the only "facilities" for public use are an outhouse. Granted, it was very clean, and the server told us that she sanitizes it daily and that it gets pumped weekly. But seriously, an outhouse? Blech. read more

Nice quick stop to this Winery. There is no indoor seating. The flights were good, but the semi-sweet options tasted sweeter than the sweet options. Not a lot of snacks to pick from. We ended up buying the Lady Slipper wine and two cute glasses. The staff were very nice and helpful. read more

Fun stop while up north. The winery offers tastings or glasses of wine for $5. Fantastic variety of flavors for only doing non-grape wines. We came for an anniversary of the winery so they had live music and great ambiance. My favorite was the white cranberry and my husbands was the pear (reminded us of a cider beer). Found this cute winery on our way north. Great assortment of fruit wines and a kind and knowledgeable (though with the expected amount of Northwood a curmudgeon) proprietor. He strongly encouraged us to try their award winning black currant and cranberry wines - I thought the white cranberry and black currant, especially, were a joy. I'm not normally a fan of non grape wines, but these were delicious. I definitely have a few bottles to take back home! read more

Had a great afternoon at Forestedge winery. We got there around 2:30, and even through there were others tasting, we got started right away. The tastings were free and they let you try whatever you want. We tried several flavors and really enjoyed the rhubarb and black current. After the tasting we got a glass of wine and enjoyed it with our picnic lunch on their beautiful patio. I would suggest that you bring some food and spend a nice and relaxing afternoon out there. After our lunch we purchased a few bottles, which were very reasonably priced. Looking forward to enjoying them at home. An adorable little winery tucked away literally on the edge of the forest. I've been wanting to make a trip to this spot for quite a while now and the hour drive from the cabin was worth it. They'll let you sample every wine they have for $5. Their wines are unique because none of them are made from grapes. They range from rhubarb to blueberry to plum wines. Most were a little too sweet for my liking but different and fun, nonetheless! Scored some Christmas gifts for family members! read more

Tastings are complementary and they've got an extensive list of fruit wines. I was expecting them all to be sweet, but many of them were complex and dry as well. They have a great little outdoor area and offer chilled glasses or bottles if you'd like to enjoy some wine on the spot. Prices are great too, with bottles in the 11-13 dollar range. read more

I reside north of Bemidji, and yesterday was my first time at the Forestedge Winery. I brought some friends with me who were up visiting from Chicago. WHAT A MISTAKE! We waited in line for the wine tasting for 15 minutes, and the gentleman behind the counter ignored us and let several other people go around us. So finally we went outside and the nice young man tending the bar offered to let us taste what he had stocked on the patio. After inquiring, we found they also were not offering tours because of a wedding! We shrugged it off, and went back inside to find there was room for us at the counter. The same man who initially ignored us was very rude, and didn't talk to us about the wines whatsoever. I asked to taste one more, and the man said to the people next to us, " Hold on a minute, folks, this girl is obviously 14 and wants to try the raspberry". Well I was very offended and said so to the man at the register, and all he said was "I think he is under a little stress". Well you know what, Forestedge? Stress is no reason to treat a paying customer like that! I can guarantee I will NEVER be back, and its too bad because I all but run a tour guide service up here for friends and family who come up to visit. Your wine is excellent, but not enough to make up for your APPALLING service! I make my own wine, and can refrain from buying yours. Although I do thank you because this will spare me the long drive out there in the future. read more
