Both the school Christian culture and the acedemic culture is one-size-fits-all. Young earth creationists disparage science, and a fundamentalist teacher taught her doctrine of hell and condemnation. The school disparages other religions and gay people. I was told in a meeting with the principal where I expressed my concerns about this one teacher that his doctrine is better than mine. The school says that parents are heard, but that was not my experience. If this school should grow, perhaps an openness to people of different denominations would help. To his very last experience my son felt that he was misunderstood and that this teachers were trying to change his beliefs. He was called a Lutheran, instead of being respected an Eastern Orthodox Christian.

But the past couple years they have had issues with Mrs. Mikel. We have never had any issues with bullying, let alone any issues at all. They have been coming home mopey and rather sad most days because they feel bullied by their own teacher. It was hat day at school and Mrs. Mikel was giving the kids a treat for wearing hats and gave all the kids a treat accept my brother. I'm not sure if it was because his hat was from our church or what the case may be but that is one way to make a kid feel less than the others. He was so crushed that "Mrs. Mikel doesn't like him". And that's just one scenario of many. But being a teacher of such young kids, it's especially important to make them all feel valued, and that's not happening in her classroom whatsoever. I am not a person to complain but this is getting out of hand and it's effecting my brother at home now. Just think about how your actions affect the littles, you're supposed to be their safe space, not a place where they dread to be.

This is a big transition for them, and they are still learning the routines, expectations, and boundaries of a new classroom. Regarding the hugging, I understand that they may be showing affection and seeking comfort as they adjust. Of course, I am happy to talk with them about appropriate boundaries and when it is okay to hug someone. I just hope we can allow them some time to learn and adapt rather than viewing these behaviors too quickly as a serious problem. I am absolutely willing to work together with you and support the twins in following classroom expectations. I would appreciate approaching this as a learning and adjustment period, especially so early in the school year. I want us to work as a team and give them the opportunity to settle in and succeed. Thank you for your understanding and for working with them. But the person complain that the kids have a hand in their mouth they don't feel comfortable. It's a big transition. I don't understand why it is already give me a hard time and my kids.

I learned what it meant to have virtue. The teachers are the best people you will ever meet. Their joy and wonder for life and learning inspires me to this day. However, this school is not for the weak of heart. It takes grit and determination to do well with their classical education. But if you commit, you will learn what it truly means to be human. My son has been attending Sandoval a few years now. Sandoval is a little strange. The classes are grouped so for example 1,2 and 3rd graders are all lumped together for 3 years. I did question this method, but the bright side is that it creates some stability in class mates and teachers. It's half Spanish speaking which I feel is a mixed blessing as well. My son is learning two languages but I am afraid he may end up a "jack of all trades master of none" but the verdict is still out. The school is kind of hard to get into, so I think the parents and kids seem to take learning a little more seriously at this school.
