You are required to use the NHS app to check-in to ensure that contact tracing can occur should a visitor later test positive. We were asked to wait at the benches facing the field with menus in hand. The cows and pasture is gorgeous. The weather is fine as long as the sun pokes out. Nevertheless we waited for a while as this is Spring break and many families are out here enjoying the views. We noticed that groups that came after us had been called and that the hostess who took down our information had gone on break. Sure enough, there was no record of us on the list after I inquired. The staff apologized for the poor communication among their colleagues and made sure to seat us at the next available. The server again apologized and took our order right away, including our dessert which was placed on hold until we were ready. The tables are cleaned immediately after guests leave. There are heaters placed strategically around the dining area however only the center one is lit. Thankfully we lucked out and sat by the heat lamp that was lit. The food came out reasonably fast. We could hear the cook shouting orders at the staff and it seemed like a well run cafe minus the hostess snafu. Our food was fresh and good tasting. The dessert was also fresh and delicious. Overall this place did well considering the disorganized start. It was true to the quality we have become accustomed to when visiting here.

The most impressive looking thing on our table was the burger, a big plate loaded with chips and salad, however it wasn't a gorgeous thick patty like we expected, "like a van burger, but better" was the comment. Not all of the chips were finished, but the rest was eaten. Cakes looked nice, but we didn't have any. The farm shop is small, but well stocked. There were still quite a lot of branded goods, and quite a few things that you can get in your average decent supermarket. I do think it's just personal preference that I like my farm shops plastic free and crammed into a room in a country house with an honesty box, and I know that's not the right model for most. There was a good range of veg, cheeses, meats, and a little booze corner. I'd say it's worth a visit.

A great way to spend an early summer's day, soaking up the sun and picking some of the very best tasting fruit. Sadly, closed until next year now, for the fruit to replenish. The right fork goes to Scaddow's farm shop, a great place to buy local produce. The shop, whilst not huge, has a great selection of meat, dairy products and cheeses (infused with chilli, ginger, apricots etc.) Home-made bread, teacakes, jams and marmalades too. A great variety of fruit and veg, fresh and mostly local, and surprisingly reasonably priced, competitive with local supermarkets. Scaddows also has a small cafe selling an impressive, but small range of items. A range of home-made soups, scones, teacakes and cream cakes, are the lion's share of the menu. A small selection of indoor and outdoor seating for the diners; the picnic benches outside have an unbelievable view across the fruit picking fields, through to Ticknall and beyond. Very peaceful and one of our favourite places to have lunch at the moment.
