He offered to run simple tests on batteries and inspections of the car for me for free. He also responds quickly to requests, questions via Yelp and phone. My alternator of the car was bad and Mr Derek gave me two options: remanufactured and OEM. He clearly explained what the pros and cons of each one and respected my decision. They were going to replace with a used engine with more miles on it than my current engine. Gave them a call to ask what the deal was. They said it failed a compression test. I took it somewhere else for a second opinion. The second mechanic fixed it by replacing some fuel injectors and O2 sensors for a couple hundred bucks. I told the second mechanic that I was told it failed a compression test. He told me he did a compression test too and it looked fine. That was over 3 years and tens of thousands of miles ago and my engine is still going strong. I think this is the first bad review I have ever left because I don't want to hurt someone's business and I'm sure there are good mechanics who work there, but I wanted to caution people to get a second opinion before accepting a big job from CBA on Woodlawn.

The guy who was going to repair the key ignition, called me if I would like to get a used part instead of a new one and I totally agreed because the cost was much less than the new one. The mechanics were excellent at that time. However, something happened a few years ago as the people changed. Prices went up quickly and it made me feel the recent change of employees was the issue. The last time I went there, I had an oil leak - after the oil change. I told them about it, had to take it back and they said it was not an oil leak and all they had to do was tighten up the lid. However, when I took my car to another auto shop to clean the headlights, they found an oil leak. They fixed it and did it the right way. This particular incident made it clear to me that Yost had no intention of fixing my vehicle correctly. That made me very angry as I spent thousands of dollars in the past. This was $80 more than another shop I had gone to, where they did not charge me anything to look at the car and wrote a receipt quote complete with tax and labor. I was talked into G&L by my neighbor so my loyalty got the best of me. When I was told that I had to pay the $47.30, without prior verbal or written agreement of such a charge, I was in a moment of disbelief. The sad reality is, the charge I paid to G&L added to the price I paid elsewhere, is still lesser than the quote of $420 by G&L. Do yourself a favor and save money.
