I have probably been a client at Northern Hills Dental for the past 7 years. I really have not a…read morebad thing to say about them and their service during most of the 7 years, except one time when one of the hygienists was quite 'rough' in the cleaning process that resulted in some pain during and after the appointment. Recently, however, I have noticed that they have been quite tardy in their appointment schedules. For the second time in recent memory, I have waited in excess of 35 minutes for my appointment (the first occurrence was much longer than 35 minutes), not including the time I waited before my scheduled appointment time (I always try to arrive early for my appointments). This defeated the purpose of me getting off work a half hour early so that I can get all dental work done before my following dinner commitment. I am not sure how often this happens at Northern Hills Dental but it has happened to me twice. If I were repeatedly late 30 minutes for my appointments, I am sure they would have told me to reschedule. I understand that there are sometimes circumstances that could have extended the appointment before me but that could have been avoided by properly estimating the amount of time it takes for each appointment. For example, extra time should be set aside for children dental appointment. I know that is the case with my toddler... it always takes longer than scheduled. I understand that the delay for them to see me was because they were in the middle of a procedure for a child that took longer than they had allowed for. However, this is the type of repeated experience that causes client to go elsewhere regardless of the reason.

What a great place! I felt so welcome by every member of the staff. I had a lot of work that needed to be done. I had a few fillings and all 4 wisdom teeth extracted. Dr. Pan was amazing. That was the first time EVER a dr was able to freeze my mouth with one try. It usually takes at least 3-4 times to freeze my mouth. Thank you Dr. Pan! I was pretty worried about the extractions but again, Dr. Pan was amazing. I never doubted his ability and felt safe the whole time. During both visits Dr. Pan and the assistant constantly made sure I was comfortable and feeling ok with what was going on. Thank you so much for the experience. I'm recommending this place to all my family and friends!

Then one night I made popcorn - I chipped a back tooth and one of my cap and crowns broke and fell out. I called and left a message asking for an emergency appointment. No call back after 3 hours of the practice being open. I called once more and was told the next appointment they had available wasn't until 6 days. I went in and explained I had an emergency, where shoul I go? They told me I should go, "here". "But you have no time for 6 days," I asked, "where do you send you patients in cases of emergency?" They answered, "here". "We only recommend here." We went back and forth with this Dr. Seuss routine for a little, when I finally asked for my X-rays and went elsewhere, where they recognized I had an emergency and treated me well!

I put natural polysporin on the spot and it healed within a week. 2)One tooth in front got a filling ....while they were checking my bite they took too much of the tooth off... now it's uneven compared to the other side. And make my two front teeth look like I have buck teeth /chipmunk. tooth was cut down too much. in the dentists defence--- Half of my mouth/face was frozen and shifted to the right due to my neuro-muscular response to freezing and any work /forced opening of my jaw (tmj and oa) done on my mouth/jaw-- it wasn't going to be a proper representation while frozen and I tried to explain that. I recommend Dr Patel for sure though and will be going back for the other side :)

It'll be sooooo fun, at the end our mouth will hurt, we'll have chapped lips, and we'll get a bill for $400." - No one ever. Hands up if you like the dentist! Anyone? Anyone? No one likes going to the dentist, especially me. My Dad used to pull my teeth out with needle-nosed pliers when I was little. Incidentally, these same pliers also spent time working on the car and other odd jobs...don't worry though, he wiped them off on a rag before they went in my mouth. Oh yeah, I also have parts of my two front teeth that are fake (don't worry, his home dentistry biz couldn't handle that one). I have such a "not small" fear of the dentist that I didn't go for like 6 years. One day I realized that my fear of being 30 and having dentures is greater than my fear of the dentist so I started looking for a dentist that would be really nice to me. A co-worker recommended Downtown Dental and I phoned and told them my scary dental story and asked them if they could be extra nice to me. That was three years ago and now I go every six months. I don't like many of the dental sounds (scraping, drilling etc.) even if they are from someone else's mouth so I they suggested I bring some music to listen to. However, on the day of my appointment I forgot my ipod at home. The receptionist insisted I listen to her ipod as she knew it would help. Love it. Going to the dentist is never fun, but these guys make it as easy as possible. They also send me a birthday card each year (and it's not to remind me to book an appointment, it's just to wish me a happy birthday) - I like it. Bonus! - they've also moved into PennWest Plaza, also the location of Rise Bakery, home of Crack Bun, so you can sink your clean teeth into a cinnamon-y delight right after your appointment. If Crack Bun is part of the process, I could be persuaded to go weekly....ok, maybe not.
