I recently had an extremely disappointing experience at Dentistry for Children in Clifton, NJ, concerning my daughter's braces removal and subsequent service to remove stains left by the braces. Initially, I was informed that the stain removal service would cost $1050 but that I would only have to pay $105 after insurance. I was hesitant due to the fact this was considered cosmetic. I verified this amount multiple times: with the office staff who checked with my insurance companies, the insurance person in the office, and even directly with Dr. Sultan, who reassured me that $105 was the total I would owe. I even confirmed when we returned for the service. However, two weeks after the service was performed, I received a bill for $325.90 When I called the office, they informed me that this was the balance after insurance had paid, meaning I was now out of pocket $430.90 for a service I didn't really want but was CONVINCED to get because they ASSURED me insurance would cover the majority of the cost. After going back and forth with the office I offered to PAY HALF of the unexpected bill, which I thought was FAIR, the office REFUSED, and they are now charging me interest on the outstanding amount. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and feels very misleading. I strongly advise others to be very cautious with this office and Dr Sultan and ensure all costs are clearly outlined and confirmed before agreeing to any additional services. I feel like I was robbed. read more

The dentists are fine, however I called to make an appointment for a regular cleaning, and was told that the cost would be about $500-$600 for the cleaning. I think that is unreasonable. read more

Although Dr. Sultan may be a great dentist, I don't agree with his business practices. Several years ago they started asking for co-pays upfront at the time of the visit. At my daughter's last visit in January 2023, I was told my co-pay was $120! I paid it. However, my insurance statement said my co-pay was $65. I've been trying for almost three months now to get my overpayment of $55 back. I've reached out to the office several times via email and they never reply. Now I'm trying to get this resolved through the dental insurance company. read more

Just had our third visit here with our 3 year old son and we couldn't be more pleased! It's always a quick and painless visit. Dr. Sultan is great and super informative. The ladies at the front are always a pleasure. And a super shot out to Lisbeth who remembered that my son liked The Nightmare Before Christmas and took it upon herself to get him a little something from the movie! All three of my have been going to see Dr. Sultan for many years. 2 of my children are non-verbal and autistic. They a lot of anxiety when going to any doctor's office. Dr. Sultan and his staff have always gone out of their way to make them feel safe and treat them with kindness. Ultimately all three of my enjoy going to the dentist because of Dr. Sultan and his staff. He is very patient and stays abreast of all new innovations in the dental practice. My youngest son even wants to become a dentist because of Dr. Sultan! read more

I made an appointment for my children three months in advance. I asked the office staffperson if they accepted Aetna. She said yes. We rearranged our busy schedules, filled out all their paperwork, and waited months to bring the children to their appointment. It wasn't until we were standing in the office the day of our appointment that they told us they only PARTIALLY accept Aetna and that we would have to pay $45 for each child for their appointments. More, I imagine, if more than a routine cleaning were required. I feel like this was a bait and switch tactic. We walked out. Maybe they thought after all that work we would just stay and pay? Now I have to put in additional labor to find a more honest dentist and go through this mess all over again. If you must go to this office, I recommend asking them to answer all your insurance questions in writing in advance of the appointment. read more

We've been going here to see Dr. Spiegel years. Dr. Hassan is the new owner of this practice. I was extremely surprised when I took my boys to find NOT ONE person from the previous staff. We had to fill in much more paperwork. Since my husband and I were together with the children, I stayed in the waiting room filling out the papers, while the boys went to the back with Dad. I've never had a problem with Dr Spiegel doing routine cleanings for them as their gums are sensitive and the hygienist wasn't as gentle. When I went back to see what was happening, both the children were done at the same time, nobody told me a hygienest was cleaning them that day, hubby didn't know the "routine" and my youngest child's gums were bleeding and chunk of gum was missing. Not to mention, I don't give them the add'l flouride treatment and it was done already! I was furious to say the least! I went straight to the front desk and they threw all the previous staff "under the bus"! So unprofessional! Saying they didn't keep proper records, they have to redo all the files, nothing was in the computer, etc. What I believe to be true is, they got rid of our files and said nothing was there! Never again to this office, off to finding a new peds dentist. Only reason for 2 stars is because they actually got their teeth cleaned. read more

My son was going here for five years and when I switched employers the girl over the phone said they accepted Aetna insurance. The day I arrived for my son's teeth cleaning and ortho appointment, the front office Mgr said they did not have my new insurance on file and cost could range from $50 -$150 but they don't know until they get the EOB. I got called into the back office by Front Office Mgr was told to sit, said I was fine standing. She than tells me in front of my 8 yr old son, "I feel threaten by you and feel like you are going to hit me". I took a double take and said "what did you just say to me?". I told her first of all that is totally unprofessional on her part and how could she say this is front of my son!" I asked to speak to Dr. Sulton and he was busy with patients. I than asked him to call me, he never called, doubt he got the message. I also asked him to call after I filled out the survey from the appointment that never happened!! Never again. Such a wonderful dental experience! We actually had fun at the dentist! I'm so glad I found Dr. Sultan. He and his staff are are a wonderful breath of fresh air from any other dental office experiences. From the amazingly friendly and helpful office staff to the wonderful assistants and hygienists that always have a smile and are great with kids. They run on time--I never wait more than a few minutes for my appointment, and they are super informative. We did fill out a lot of paperwork when we arrived, but I liked that I was told everything that would happen at the appointment and that they asked for my permission. I also liked that they told me what everything would cost before we went in for the treatment, so I would not receive any surprise bills like my previous office, which made it nice for me, too! read more
