I feel this practice is very misleading i came in for a top and bottom retainer they quoted me $390, upon leaving one of the front desk girls asked me to sign a paper saying the cost would be $5,000 i told her i just needed a retainer are you sure this is correct? She than corrected the paper work and told me i can pay the $390 when i pick it up. Today i came in and they told me i had to pay $690, that my insurance doesn't cover anything, i asked wouldn't you let the patient know and they said no not really we do not have to tell them. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

I've been coming to Doctor Pilar for about 2 years. I moved out of the area, but go out of my way to keep Doctor Pilar as my dentist because I really enjoy my experience at her office. From receptionist, to hygienists, to doctors, everyone is very professional and kind. I usually dread small talk, but I don't mind it with them, which is tough at the dentist office anyway (especially during services)! The office is really great about reminding you of upcoming appointments via their digital system (emails/text). I'm usually seen really promptly with my appointment time, so you're not waiting around for your appointment. This is super important to me because I'm always annoyed when I go to a doctor's appointment on time, but still wait another 20+ minutes to be seen. That hasn't happened to me at Smile Today. There's a small lot to park in the back, but street parking is also available. I'm very happy with my experiences with Smile Today and will be back for my future appointment soon! read more

This dental practice is the best. I've had some bad experiences in the past and have a little bit of anxiety whenever I have an appointment, but the entire team is so great at creating a comfortable environment. Dr. Pilar has great bedside manner, is skilled at her work, and is approachable with questions. I appreciate the time she takes to explain the procedure and plan of care, and especially that she communicates in a way that makes sense even for those of us who are not in the medical profession. I found Dr. Pilar a few years ago due to great reviews, and now I'm advising anyone who needs a dentist, to come here too. Great dentist, with competent, professional staff. Despite my sometimes impossible schedule, they always try to accommodate without making me feel like a burden. Everyone is knowledgeable from the moment you walk in, to your cleaning, to when you walk out the door. On top of that, they have set up excellent precautions for COVID- temperature checks, sanitation, using PPE, protective and filtering devices, covered surfaces, etc. You can tell they put thought into what they do, from how they treat their patients to their safety practices. Dr. Pilar & her staff are wonderful! I first saw her for a cavity which she promptly fit me in, filled it & advised me on all of my dental issues. Today I went back for my cleaning and Hardi, the hygienist was gentle, thorough and so kind in explaining my need to floss more. She even gave me a floss sample & explained a better way to floss. (I was reluctant fearing I'd pop off a crown.) Hardi recommended a cordless waterpik for me which I just ordered. I've had a few dentists in my life and Dr.Pilar and staff top the list! We are so lucky to have her here in Nutley. They even checked costs with my insurance in advance so there were no surprise expenses. Also this is during the pandemic and their protocols, masks, call before entering and plastic on the chairs was very reassuring & protective. read more

My experience was very nice. Setting up my 1st appointment over the phone was easy and didn't take long to confirm as they had availability. Staff is very friendly and polite. Helped me onboard within 5 mins of my walk in. 5 min later I was asked to sit on the chair for checkup. The DA / Hygienist asked me important questions and took all required details including X-rays. Prepared the notes for the doctor. Dr. Shefali Pilar was very knowledgeable in explaining me why I was having the issue and also explained me the next steps. Let me preface this entire review by stating that I am terrified by dentists. I have had many negative experiences with dentists in the past. DR. PILAR IS A SAINT AMONG DENTISTS. After four years of searching for good dentists under my husband's old insurance, his job switched him to a plan that brought me back to Dr. Pilar. Thank you Jesus. I had my cleaning just last week. Sadly, I now would need a root canal for a cavity she warned me about during my last visit. Always heed her warnings. Dr. Pilar knows that I take FOREVER to numb, so she requested two hours. Her wonderful employee (I believe her name is Danielle) told me there would be nothing for at least two months. I shared an experience with her about my last tooth that required a root canal. I told her I waited too long before getting the root canal and was worried that two months would be too long. She promised me she would keep me in mind if there were any cancellations. She did not forget, and just this morning I had my root canal. I had a root canal done by another dentist and it was a nightmare. This time was anything but. Her and her assistant, Ashley, were so patient and so kind the entire time. As per usual, I took a while to numb, but Dr. Pilar knew that I was so nervous about the possibility of an intrapulpal injection. She was super patient with me and did everything she could to avoid it. Once I was numb, I had moments of panic, but Dr. Pilar and Ashley worked super hard to keep me calm. They were truly the best. They smiled, they joked, and they sailed through the procedure. Overall, Dr. Pilar and her staff are worth EVERY. SINGLE. PENNY. They are the best and I am so blessed that my husbands insurance allows me to be treated by her again. If you are on the fence as to whether or not you should take the leap, I hope this helps you. From the moment I walked into Smile Today I felt a sigh of relief. Today was my second time visiting the office and Dr. Pilar. The office smells nice and is kept clean. I was referred to Smile Today, by a close friend, and I am so grateful for making the switch. The receptionist and front staff are super pleasant and helpful. They took extra time to go over payments (what my insurance did and didn't cover) and upcoming schedules. They were patient with my many questions, and that's even before seeing Dr. Pilar. Once in the chair other hygienist come and introduce themselves and talk me through the procedure. Today was my first ever root canal, to say I was nervous was an understatement. Dr. Pilar and her staff made me feel comfortable and answered all my questions and concerns. They gave me the remote to the tv to help calm me down. During the procedure, Dr. Pilar talked me through every step, and offered words of encouragement to me, "you're doing great," "we're halfway through." She had a calm demeanor which helped my nerves. I suggest going to her office and making the switch. I had been at my old dentist since I was a teenager, and I never knew what he was doing, or specific terminology.
