"hmn I shouldn't be asleep right now because I have another commitment and I just can't put my finger on it... and it's not work, it's something else..." And then you realize that you are supposed to be at the dentist getting your teeth cleaned in 3 minutes and that's why you feel like you shouldn't be sleeping off a mid-week bender? No? That hasn't happened to you? Then... my bad (I guess). Long story short - I called the dentist and said I would be late and they were totally cool about it. Then I showed up (looking/smelling like a hobo) and they were totally cool about it. Then I disallowed the cavitron 5000 from my cleaning and they were totally cool about it. The bottom line message I want to deliver to you in this review, is that I am never switching dentists again. Actually, that's not exactly true. I am never switching hygienists again. If Lisa moved to a different dentist office, I would move my records along with her. This was the most painless dental cleaning I have ever had. That statement is not a joke. I had not been to the dentist in 1.5 years, and there was a lot of cleaning that needed to be done; Lisa had brand new dental tools that she was delighted to break in on me. She was done in 45 minutes (I have historically had to break up cleanings into 2 visits) and when I inspected her work, I expected to see residual tartar and plaque because of the efficiency and painlessness of the service, but the cleaning passed the quality control inspection. I remain shocked by the quality of this cleaning and it has inspired me to floss more regularly, because I want to preserve the work that she has done here. This is my new hygienist and I hope that I die before she does (like... a long time from now) because I can't imagine finding another person that is this good at this job.

It was the worst snow storm Toronto had experienced for some time and still my hygienist and a receptionist had made it to work! Yontela and Kenna, you rock! The office was very clean, organized, sanitizer everywhere. Covid prep for sure. Temperature taken at wrist and prior to the visit a covid form is completed online. I was early for my 3.30pm appointment (~3pm because my trip to the post office was cut short, being that they were closed). I came in with two large boxes and Kenna was so kind and friendly, she told me I can keep the packages in the closet during my appointment and just made my awkwardness that more comfortable. During my appointment Yontela was so kind and patient--she answered all my questions and was very professional and gave me her input. She did not make me feel bad that I had difficulty flossing behind my back mollers and continued to encourage me to try and keep trying. I felt, all around, given the stress of the snow storm, the commute, the lack of staff... Kenna and Yontela are superstars! Thank you for the great visit to the dentist... This was not the case. The hygienist was excellent and explained everything as she did things, let me watch Netflix on my iPhone, and asked if I needed breaks when I winced during the cleaning. Please don't let this last line deter you, the wincing is because I'm a wuss and again, deserved to be floss shamed. My new dentist, Dr. Walden was lovely, understanding, quick yet thorough and I definitely trust her with my smile. They're taking new patients, and if you have insurance they take the payment directly from your insurer which is mighty handy. Say cheese!

[gesturing vaguely to invisible problems on an Xray] Well, I'm sorry, but here's the list of 14 things that NEED to be done. You do have insurance, right?" This was so not my experience here. I explained that my insurance runs out in two weeks and I have a sore tooth, so they squeezed me in to a short-notice cancellation. Two points for them there. I arrived late (my bad - had the address wrong) but they still whisked me in fairly quickly, and everything was done quite efficiently. I've been going to older-fashioned dentists in Oakland, CA where the Xrays were still being done with that horrid cardboard stuff and put up on lightboxes, so the digital ones that went on the overhead TV were kinda cool. Nice to be at a 21st century office. Dr. Walden and the hygienist were both really, REALLY nice. They were friendly and helpful, explained what they were doing and what the jargon meant, and despite the fact that it's been about 18-20 months since I'd seen a dentist, were not patronizing or casting about for things to stick my insurance company on. Actually, Dr. Walden was quite complimentary on my oral hygiene - so many dentists are rude or patronizing about it. The only problem they did find made complete sense (the corner of a 30-year-old filling was broken off on the tooth that was sore - now I understand why the floss kept snapping!), and the receptionist offered to fit me in this afternoon to get it fixed. Like other reviewers have said, no one LIKES to go to the dentist, but when they make it an almost pleasant experience, you can dislike it so much less. Addendum: I'm back from having that filling fixed. I will admit that dental work and needles in my mouth terrify me - a previous experience with an awful dentist in California that left me unable to chew on the left side of my mouth for *three years* - and Dr. Walden was very, very considerate and careful dealing with an obviously extremely uncomfortable patient. She kept up a reassuring patter throughout, interrupting herself frequently to keep me in the loop about what she was doing, explaining, checking on me, at one point informing me that I might want to clench my hands just a wee bit less since one of my fingers was clearly losing circulation... I sent my neighbour to her recently, too. His assessment? "She rocks!" And how often, I ask you, does someone hear THAT about a dentist? Second addendum: Have -you- ever heard of a dentist who emails you at 9pm on a Saturday evening to check how your new filling is holding up? I hadn't, either. Until Dr. Walden.

My last dentists would leave me almost in tears during every visit. Nathan has had to have a few things done, like crowns, cavities, etc. and told me that Dr. Seagal always does a great job. On top of that, he no longer has such a hatred of going to the dentist. Bonus points for this office because they have TVs on the ceiling and a treasure chest that has prizes (for kids, I imagine).

It seems really obvious to me that money is more important than the patient itself. I am also running away because I don't like that strategy that many clinic have to evaluate how much money your insurance covers and schedule random checks threw the year to get that money event if that's not necessary.

They are brief in their summaries and tell you everything you could do rather than help guide you towards what you should do. They are particularly bad at pediatric dentistry. When my son was getting one of his first check-ups, it became evident he was missing two front teeth. The dentist proceeded to use the term "recessive gene" three times and claimed my family must have the same "recessive gene" problem -- we don't, neither do members of my wife's family -- and then made me feel stupid for not noticing this issue. New parents need to feel supported with their children's health. These dentists made me feel ashamed and confused. When my son was about to get his first cavity filled at 4 years old, the dentist first claimed it would be very challenging cause it was late in the day, then had us come back later in the week first thing in the morning, then gave up and referred us to pediatric dentistry, which we should have done in the first place. It was a tremendous waste our time and frankly I'm appalled by their righteous attitude. Also, they don't do direct billing, so be prepared to pay up front fully even if you have coverage. Don't get me wrong. These dentists are skilled and trained. They know dentistry. Their attitude sucks. I have seen medical specialists my entire life and I'm very attuned to who demonstrates care and who just treats appointments as work. Leaside made us feel like a job and not people. Severely disappointed in Leaside Dentistry.

I'm a dental avoider. I hate dentists. Hate may not be the right word. I'm terrified of dentists. I…read moreactually get teary while sitting in a dentist's chair cause I'm so worked up. So I had avoided going to the dentist for years. When I finally worked up some nerve, I called a number of dental offices, and eventually booked an appointment with this one because the receptionist was warm, patient, and happy to give me as much information as I needed to get past some of my fear. The clinic itself is big and busy. The layout is interesting; it's situated primarily underground, but has sunlights for some natural light. It's clean, and shiny, and has a fishtank, which gives nervous nellie's like me something to focus on. I was booked in with Dr. Al Attar who was utterly patient and gentle with me and explained everything as he did it. The hygienist I saw on my second visit was equally patient and accommodating. I felt supported and cared for and will actually make it back for a six month cleaning, having conquered some of my fear with this clinic. It's not getting five stars because it's still a dental clinic - still expensive for those of us without coverage, and still scary and hard to navigate. Perhaps if they had a petting zoo in the waiting room...
