    Kay-Lee Charters

Twice in two weeks, I (and dozens of other drivers) were stuck behind a KayLee Charters bus/buses…read morethat were traveling in the express lane, northbound I-25 near Monument-Castle Rock, Colorado. Mind you, the toll (express) lane was open, but toll free. Also, bearing in mind that it is illegal in Colorado to travel slower than the speed of traffic in the left-most lanes, that is precisely where the bus was traveling. In this hilly portion of I-25, the buses were not able to keep their speed, at times dropping to less than 60mph in a 75mph zone. This created a lot of havoc and gridlock with other drivers, with many choosing to cross the double white lines of the express lane to get around the slower buses. I called the KayLee home office after the first time this occurred (as an off-duty officer) to report the poor driving of the three buses. I was informed that the drivers were being contacted by radio to vacate the express lanes to curtail the traffic issues they were creating. The three buses instead stayed in the express lane as they continued all the way through Castle Rock, long after the express lane ended. From what I could tell, the buses were fully loaded. Event #2 was approximately 2 weeks later. As I traveled in the express lane on the same roadway with my wife, I noted a single charter bus causing the same issues in the express lane several cars in front of us. This day, there was far less traffic on the Interstate, yet the bus was holding back several dozen cars in the express lane (again, we aren't supposed to cross out of the lane until allowed to do so), and hitting his brakes in response to the drivers not happy with the bus Again, several drivers were going around the bus illegally and unsafely to go on their way. At the end of the express lane, I went into the right lane to get a look at the company name (KayLee Bus J2903, June 10, 2023). The bus driver then abruptly changed lanes nearly striking our vehicle. Thinking I may be in his blind spot I honked my horn to alert him. He stayed partially in my lane, swerving at me, and then laid on his horn for 30 seconds or so at me. As I attempted to get my phone camera on to record the reckless behavior, we waved his hand and stayed on the horn. We are convinced that this driver attempted to force us from my lane in a very careless and reckless manner, even changing lanes several times and speeding near us as the harassment continued. The only positive of this experience was the caveats that he had an empty bus and I also had my forward facing vehicle camera on. I once again tried to contact the company (I was a bit more animated and angry this time) but no one answered nor returned my demand for a follow-up call. If I can keep one person from putting their loved ones on a charter bus owned by Kay-Lee Charters of Denver, then I have made my point. And WHEN something serious happens involving this irresponsible company, I want the investigators to find this review of their past reprehensible behavior to attest that it likely was not simply an accident! (My wife doesn't call me Captain Safety Pants for nothing...)

Devon is such a wonderful tour guide; incredibly accommodating and professional. He was really informative about the area. Stopped to let me get a close look at elk and even a moose. We had a lovely lunch at a cafe at the top of the mountains. I loved the weather, it was 80 when we left, then it rained, then it hailed, then it snowed! On the way back, Devon casually tosses out, "Do you like pie?" WHO doesn't like pie?! He stopped at a little place he knows where a woman in her 80's makes homemade pie (Colorado Cherry Company), but unfortunately, it was closed (so whe had to stop for ice cream further down the road). Devon and I talked throughout the entire tour (which was about 7 hours) about books and our love for animals and nature and our lives; as we drove through some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere. It was one of those few days in my life that I will remember and cherish; when you have a great connection with both nature and with another kindred spirit.

We booked 2 tours with him. Pike's Peak/Garden of the Gods 9-19-20 & Rocky Mountain National Park 9-21-20. If I could give him more than Five Stars I would. There are several reasons why these tours worked for our family. 1. He picked us up from our Airbnb. 2. We didn't have to worry about where we were going. 3. We could enjoy the scenery along the way, with no stress, and curbside drop off (or princess parking as my daughters would say). 4. We could enjoy our family time together and we went at our own pace, no rushing to get on a big tour bus for the next stop. 5. If we needed Devon he was there and if we didn't he gave our family space. 6. History about the parks as we went along each tour. 7. Last, but not the least, Devon always had our family's safety in mind, and this experience will last a lifetime!!! Thanks Friend!!

When I said I'd write this up on Yelp, she said her name was Mary. She met us at the flagpole outside of Union Station right on time. One of our party was late and therefore we got a little late start. Once on the road, we got a little history of Denver in general. Informative. We stopped along the way in St. Vrain. Small town. We stopped at a general store for a potty break and of course to purchase. It smelled delicious in there. Sausage, baked goods, etc. Once in the park we had lunch. Turkey sandwiches from the Farmers Market. Good eats. We drove to different spots in the park. Fall colors at the end of their peak, but still gorgeous. We saw many elk. It's rutting time and it was interesting to watch the males steal the women from each other. The elk 'bugle' is kind of neat and creepy. Returning to Denver we were taken through Boulder. Quite the bustling city. It was a great time. Michelle had her iPod filled with various playlists. Most enjoyable. Thanks, Michelle. 10/06/21 Today we tour the Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. Our tour guide is Jim, a really laid back and just all around cool guy. We are being transported in a Mercedes Sprinter. Very nice and roomy. We travel through Colorado Springs, see the city and the Air Force academy. The first stop is the garden. Beautiful oxides formations of all shapes and sizes. The fun part was watching a family climb one of these large rocks. Actually, it looked like dad teaching the two kids and mom snapping pics. The kids were no older than 5-8 years old, but they were climbing little monkeys. It was mom making me nervous as she backed up to take the pics. Didn't want to see her topple over the edge. From here we go to Pikes Peak. What a difference in scenery and temperature. The garden was warm at about 75, while the peak was about 38. At the top there is a cafe where you can purchase drinks, food and the best thing of all - daily baked cake doughnuts. Cinnamon sugar or chocolate glazed. 'Chocolate glazed' doesn't do them justice. The icing is thick fudge-like and just awesome. When we checked in at the entrance gate, the ranger said we wouldn't be able to go to the top because of pending weather. But when we got to the point she said we could not go beyond, there was nothing to stop us so we went to the top and doughnuts. Yea!! But mother cold and windy, making the temp feel even colder. But beautiful views. Of course the obligatory souvenir shop is attached to the cafe. Ha, ha. Fun, fun. Jim got us to the top!
