Unfortunately, I transferred care due to their strict "No Doula" and "No Hypnobirthing" policy. When I asked my doctor about it, she said "dont waste your money" and "many of the L&D nurses at south miami are doulas" (not true). Per ACOG (American College of Obstetritian & Gynecology) "Evidence suggests that, in addition to regular nursing care, continuous one-to-one emotional support provided by support personnel, such as a doula, is associated with improved outcomes for women in labor". Hypnobirthing is also a proven pain management technique. So why do they have this policy? My guess is liability purposes. ("https://www.acog.org/clinical/clinical-guidance/committee-opinion/articles/2019/02/approaches-to-limit-intervention-during-labor-and-birth) This "no doula" policy, coupled with the fact that South Miami has an astronomically high c-section rate, were all red flags for me. I absolutely do not want a C-Section. So if you're preggers and looking to avoid the "Cascade of interventions" that come with labor, I would proceed with caution. Not to say it's not possible, but there are already policies at South Miami OBGYN that protect the medical group while also stripping the mother of options for their birth experience. Worth noting that when I transferred care to a different doctor I got a call from this office to the tune of "just to let you know, if it doesnt work out with the new doctor you can't come back to us for care". 5 star group for regular OB Care 3-4 Stars for pregnancy support

He also ordered his staff to refer me to pathology for labs and for a mammogram. I am still waiting for his office to refer me for those tests, almost 90 days later. Nonetheless, within a week of my consult my insurance approved the procedures to be performed by the Dr. Gottenger. However, It is now October and I NEVER HEARD FROM HIM, HIS OFFICE OR STAFF EVER AGAIN. I am in extreme pain and have limited mobility. I am also in the process of searching for a caring and conscientious medical establishment that follows up with patients so that I can get the medical care I urgently need. Further, one of the things I found most disconcerting with Dr. Gottenger is that he also has horrible bedside manners and didn't treat me with compassion and care. I felt dismissed by his demeanor towards me. If you have insurance paying for the procedure and not cash, that is the type of treatment to expect from this office's culture. I felt uneasy and undignified when I left his office that day, He also does not hold back by admonishing staff if they err in any detail, and most poignantly he does it in front of patients. He either, does not care how he treats his staff or, depending on the patient he is examining, does not respect the patient either by belittling a human, and or both of the above.
