I visited the studio last week during their radiothon and was pleasantly surprised with the shows J-Magic's Jambalaya (Where the Guitar is the Star) and Spoonful of Blues. Their commitment to providing free radio (ie free of commercials/ads) is really awesome and they are even available streaming online at www.valleyfreeradio.org. I listen on Tuesday nights, when the above mentioned programs are airing. I hope that VFR continues to be on the airwaves for years to come.

Lots of fascinating history of food and the science of food. Then we found a host of alternative music shows (Prog-Bog "music so progressive it hasn't been invented yet"); Mudcat Blues and Strictly Vinyl. We listen while we work in the garden or cook. I'm…read morenormally not a radio person and that is largely because I come from a part of the country where every station is now "IheartRadio" (formerly Clear Channel) playing the same 20 or 30 songs on loops throughout the day with no local character or quality. But driving through NE I got tired of my Spotify downloads and with no wifi close by to reup I flipped the dial. Radio Woodstock (WDST-FM) was my constant companion through a chunk of New York and I loved it. Great DJs, great shows, great taste and diversity in DJ chosen tracks. Such a good station I hope they realize what they have in the area!

Its a community supported station, like they all are, but it is very specific to the area and very needed by the area. They do a ton of local news and events, and they have lots of local programming as well. Its hydro powered, really. You can see the actual hydro powering happening if you go to the station. Very cool. In addition to carrying the NPR stipples (Weekend Today, All Things Considered, etc.) they make space for local talent to cover books, music, farming, Fall Foliage and much much more. Its very homey, and if you go there to make a donation you can meet the "on air" staff, and watch them work. They also do local events, an annual auction, some farm to table dinners and more. This very small station has a very big impact. Keep up the good work.
