Michelin-star caliber, with dishes and flavors that show a lot of work and insight. Out of six dishes, five were reqlly excellent. Excellent for what it was, although I would have liked more variety in the dishes. Full disclosure: this is not the type of place I typically go to, so my review might not be as useful for foodies...more of the friend that gets brought along for it. If you are a foodie you'll likely love everything about it - the decor, the cramped and hip atmosphere, and of course the food. The food was great, I just wasn't expecting as much seafood...but I'm pretty sure the menu rotates so I won't focus on the specific courses. My favorite parts came at the start and the end of the meal - the soup was fantastic and a great way to start, and I had a pork dish at the end that I thought was fantastic, but they ended up giving my wife what looked like the leftovers of a serving, which she didn't take too kindly to. Overall we really enjoyed the experience, and the staff was helpful whenever we had a question or wanted something. Trying a different cocktail with each course was really memorable, and I found myself more excite about the drinks than the food at times. One other thing - someone near our table was expecting a baby, so I believe she was given vegetarian options and they looked AMAZING. If I ever go back I think I'll go with that option if it's still available. read more

Of course we had to come here since we had been stalking Chef Taku on Instagram for a while. The concept here is very cool, options for 5 to 7 courses and the price includes a cocktail with each drink (you can opt out and get non-alcoholic if that is your preference). The food is very Japanese yet very French, and comes at a flawless pace. Dishes are very creative, and complement and contrast each other perfectly. A few standouts for me included a raw tuna dish with greens and shaved cured eggyolks, foie gras cubes with daikon and frozen grated cheese (sounds crazy, tastes AMAZING), and a great piece of iberico pork. I highly recommend checking this place out, the food and cocktail pairing is perfect (and I am not a cocktail guy) and service is excellent. read more

Dersou is my new favorite place in Paris. I really adore everything about this little spot. Dersou is a mix between Brooklyn, Tokyo and Paris. There aren't many seats, but the bar seating opens up to a buzzing kitchen creating a perfect atmosphere. The interior is utterly beautiful. From the stools to the tableware. From the employees' clothing to the bathroom. I really loved everything about it. The most important thing? The food and coffee was really good. I haven't had a better avocado toast anywhere than here at Dersou. A thick-cut slice of sourdough bread, mashed avocado, different fresh and pickled vegetables and a poached egg. Sounds simple - it is, but really delicious. My coffee was equally good, with a perfect balance between coffee, milk and crema. Finally: The service was spot on too. This restaurant feels like it belongs in Venice, California and I mean that mostly as a compliment. I say mostly because I'm not usually looking for hipster vibes in Paris. I arrived around 1:30 on a Sunday and was delighted to find no wait at all. We lucked out because shortly after we were seated there became a long line out front. The menu is short and features several interesting dishes ranging from breakfast to lunch. We tried three dishes: the octopus salad, the katsu tuna and the boyu noodle dish. The salad was really remarkable. I've never had octopus served in this way or tasted flavors quite like this. It was definitely Asian influenced with cilantro and onions but I really couldn't say the other things that were in this dish. It was lovely and I highly recommend it. The noodle dish was also good. The noodles seemed to be hand made and the ground meat had a lot of flavor. I loved the nuts in this. I believe they were hazelnuts? Unexpected! The tuna wasn't for me. It was cooked to medium well and gave the dish a strong fishy flavor. It was served with an miso soup, bowl of rice and a type of tartar sauce. Not for me. The space is small and minimalist. I wouldn't rush back but if I happened to be in the area, I wouldn't mind going back. read more

TLDR: Amazing cocktail pairings, Asian influence, and reminiscent of Septime without the hype. Located in a "foodie" part of Paris with great restaurants at slightly lower costs. Minimalist interior with creaking wooden floorboards and hanging lightbulbs. The bar area looks like it's straight out of a fairytale (glass bottles full of bright colors), and the dishes are innovative, charming and almost rustic. I had the shorter tasting menu w/cocktail pairings (90 euros) at Dersou a couple days ago. (Excuse the rough translations as the dishes were all described in French and my understanding is limited) Amuse Bouche: Chicken bouillon w/minced garlic and cilantro 1. Mussels w/greens and cheese 2. Ravioli with cheese 3. Fish with clams 4. Pork w/grilled onions, minced garlic, and mushrooms 5. Yogurt-based cream w/shortbread bits Highlights: The soup was truly unique - reminiscent of chicken pho broth, but more 'balanced' with the ginger and cilantro. The ravioli was hearty, and the pork was deliciously prepared. (Side note: I probably eat way too much garlic than is healthy, and a key part of why I especially liked the bouillon and pork.) read more

A wonderful find! The interior is sparse and wooden, but cozy in its own hipster way. My friend and I were tempted to try the five-course tasting menu (with sweet cocktail pairings), but instead decided to share plates off the menu so we could enjoy a bottle of wine. We chose the burrata sprinkled with sweet corn (an intriguing mix), white fish in a cinnamon-y curry (we nearly licked the bones clean), handmade Taiwanese noodles (with minced pork in a vinegary soy sauce), and wild mushroom risotto. The only let down was the latter, which seemed to have been simmered in oyster juice. This was not noted on the menu, and as such was rather unappreciated (not just by my friend who doesn't like oysters; I found that the mushrooms and the fishy tastes did not mesh well together). The dessert looked too good to pass up, and it was: apple crumble and fluffy pain perdu (French toast) with a cocktail pairing--we took one of each. The cocktails complemented each dessert perfectly, and the pain perdu (my favorite of the two) had such a pillowy texture and rich maple taste that I still think of it longingly. read more

So good I literally peed myself. The restaurant is easy to order: you choose five, six or seven courses all with cocktail pairing. We didn't have any allergy or preference restrictions but they seem to accommodate and substitute neighboring tables. The menu is likely seasonal but everything was delicious and definitely could hold its own if it was in LA. My husband said a few of the cocktails didn't "pair" well with the dishes but I do not think cocktails are necessarily made to compliment food the way wine does and that they were all independently good. My only critique is a couple of the dishes were a little too salty. The bar portion used gin, sherry and mezcal, tequila, vodka, jenever so spirits were definitely varied. We ordered the seven courses and it wasn't too boozy that I got smashed but I did forget to take a couple of the photos (the complimentary fried yam with aioli, first course of bonito tartar and of the wild asparagus and mushrooms with egg (my fav)). Overall highly recommend, it's not traditional french fare but we weren't expecting it to be. Reservations recommended as they did fill up (easily done on the website and you will need to place a credit card to hold it); if you come in after 22:30 you can order a la carte. read more

5 course meal plus mocktail pairing. the mocktails were excellent really. my only complaint is that by the 5th one i was starting to wonder how much lemon juice i had ingested throughout the night as they were consistently very sour but still very delicious. as for the food, the first dish was almost inedible. the second was so-so. and the last three dishes were great. the first dish consisted of a kale-type green with cheese and oysters. the greens had this consistency that they were frozen and had been thawed so the thawed part was mushy/wet and the not thawed parts were still icy. they were not seasoned in any way. the oysters had been taken out of the half shell, and were chopped raw and mixed with some white sauce. this preparation made them lose all the freshness that you get from eating a freshly shucked (and not diced up) oyster. then there was some sort of powdered cheese on top to sort of seal the deal. the second dish was foie gras with cold green beans covered again in a white sauce. tasted fine but why foie gras and cold green beans? the fish with clams, beef with apples, and dessert were great and saved the meal for us. read more

I went here last weekend for brunch and have to say I had some of the best pancakes I've ever had. Honey was actually in the pancake batter (not drizzled on top) so when you took a bite it already had a lot of flavor. I'm also big on the texture of my pancakes, especially after living in Paris, where I've seen plenty of restaurants confuse them with crepes. The pancakes at Dersou were light and airy versus flat and rubbery. There is a little trick to making pancakes where you use club soda instead of water to give them a fluffy texture and Dersou's reminded me of that. Fruit and fromage blanc complimented the deliciousness. The things my friends ordered however were not as successful. They were still very good, but I don't think I'd cross town for their fish and chips which I found a bit salty and heavy. Their toasts, generously cut portions of bread topped with things like eggs, avocado, etc. were really good too and would probably hit the spot if you're in the mood for something savory. Overall, I would definitely go back for brunch but just be prepared to wait since they don't have many tables. read more
